How's the Horde side on AD?

Hey all,

I want to move on AD mostly because it is more chill place with like-minded people and it seems more casual-friendly. I am currently Alliance side, but would like to faction change, or at least make a Horde character to experience the lore and story from the other side since I never played it before.

AD looks like the only popular realm which has the “closest” faction balance (75%-25% by looking for some sources) and since I am considering to play both sides and swap between, feels like the only good option.

I am curious how’s the Horde side looking and overal the whole server since there’s no layering with other realms? Do you feel alone in the open world? Do you still see people beside in the main cities? Would you still recommend or point some downsides with going Horde even if it’s less popular faction or join some Neutral (both faction) guild?

Sorry for maybe stupid questions, but I never played on RP realms and since I love the connection between my characters and me, I would like to at leadt give a try to some light RP from time to time. Also, want to find an active, passionate community, meet new people, make new stories and have fun.

Thank you in advance!

Not in the Dragon Isles, but everywhere else is pretty desolate and devoid of players unless you run into a group of roleplayers somewhere in the wilderness. The same can be said for playing Alliance on Argent Dawn. You can level a character from 10-60 without running into anyone in the wilderness.

In terms of cities, Stormwind City is roughly ten times more populated than Orgrimmar, by roleplayers and non-roleplayers alike.

If you’re planning on roleplaying, it’s much easier to find it as an Alliance player than a Horde player. But if roleplaying is a tertiary thing for you and you care more about gameplay, you should be able to find some active Horde guilds for raiding and M+ and other stuff, though it would still be easier if you looked for a mixed guild or an Alliance guild instead.

All I will say is that you shouldn’t expect to make a character on a RP server and be immediately rewarded with a thriving game-world full of people interacting with each other and active communities having fun. Argent Dawn can be a rewarding server to play on, but only if you put the effort into finding a community that meshes with you.

Thank you very much for the honest answer. So do you think I should stay on bigger non-RP realm them even if I play both sides and it is not faction balanced?

It mostly depends from your priorities. If you want to RP, this server is the place to go, and for a night elf it’s not hard to find company just by walking around Bel’ameth. If you don’t, it doesn’t really matter on which realm to play.

If you don’t plan to RP, I’d suggest staying on the larger realms. With Warbands coming out in next expansion, sending stuff to your alts anywhere might become fully unlocked (I recall Blizz saying something about shared inventory space like an account-wide bank), so there won’t be any reason to have characters of both factions on the same server.

Yea, as it was already said, come to AD if you truly want to try RP. For quality RP you probably should also avoid most of public hubs like the already mentioned Stormwind as it’s full of questionables, like non hiding demons, paladins with more titles than last ruling Habsburgs and so on… ,so guild or community where your character would fit is the better option.
You can find ppl for PVE and PVP here aswell, but that’s on your server already. Factions matter less in this content, basically they don’t anymore. The only thing you don’t have there is RP, so consider if you would give it a try. You can just make a new toon on AD to look around before deciding if u want and transfer.

Thank you for the feedback.

To be completely fair, I have been playing almost 3 years on my realm and didnt make any connections with people. Thats one of the reasons why I am looking for a new home with more casual oriented, like-minded community and try to make some friendships. I am not very competitive player, I do N/HC and some keys up to 10-15 most, but nothing serious, I am more collection focused and not HC player anymore, dont want to be judged or avoided because I not performing well or not playing meta.

I am not sure will I RP and how much/often, but having an option to do it is also nice.

I have to say, I don´t think you´ll find what you´re looking for anywhere in WoW unless you join a guild or community. Outside of RP, AD is just like any other server, there isn´t some magic that differentiates our PvErs/PvPers from those on other servers. And, contrary to what seems to be somewhat popular opinion on the internet, RPers in modern WoW don´t tend to pretend it´s their characters doing the content. When doing raids, dungeons, PvP or world content, we´re the same as the rest.

Besides, content is now cross-server. When doing queued content or searching for Raid/M+ PUGs, you will be paired with people from other servers. If you want to find friendships, you have to join a guild, and there´s really nothing special about AD guilds that focus on the game content.

Really similar to me, I also was mostly collector, who was content with reaching 2k rating in m+ and clearing raid on normal and that was it. Now I have dropped most of it for RP XD. Altought the 2k rating I want to keep as standard XD.

To play devil’s advocate Argent Dawn is the third largest server in the English Euro server pool, behind Draenor and Silvermoon. Most roleplayers aren’t going to care so long as you don’t harass them. Who knows, you might just find yourself being interested in RP yourself eventually. I know a fair few people who ended up being like that.

Agree, I was looking for a guild on my realm or an active, friendly community for a while and just gave up.

Sounds like you’d fit in here!

-You don’t have to RP to enjoy AD to be honest, but it -is- very important to respect the additional basics of RP realms. Keep ooc (out of character) talk away from the proximity channels (/say and /yell), don’t disrupt other people’s RP and (preferably) pick a name that is at least somewhat in line with the world of wow.

It is generally easier to form connections with people on RP realm, and there are plenty of casual RP guilds out there, where you can try out and join in on roleplay when you want to, and do other stuff like pve and pvp when you prefer that.

Best of luck on AD, I hope you find what you’re looking for here!
