Unfortunately it’s human nature and it’s like that in many aspects of life.
If you were on a job for 1 year, and you argue with someone who’s been there for 10 years, it’s very likely they’ll tell you “I’ve been here longer, so I know better” even if you might actually be right in this particular instance.
It takes a mature person to not let their ego take over. If, due to inexperience, what you’re saying is wrong, and they are more experienced and truly know better, then they should attack your argument and explain why you’re in the wrong, rather than attacking your rating.
I try to not fall for that trap myself, but sometimes I have, especially when it’s heated and I’m emotional.
My best advice would be to ignore toxic people at all costs and not try to argue with them. This is the only sustainable “solution” in the long run
