Atm we do have 80 renown levels ( not fully unlocked yet) and 252 ilvl conduits . If the design team gonna continue this trend we will have a huge issue in the future. Even now playing an alt or starting Shadowlands from 0 is kinda hard but if this adding 40 renown level and tons of conduit lvl trend continues in 9.2 rerolling / restarting the game / playing alt will be nearly impossible.
Most basic solution is not adding anything in 9.2 and 9.3 but it still won’t fix the problem previous patches created. No matter how you look at it 80 is a big number and no matter how quick it is to get there new or returning player will be drawn away from the system ( Just like level squish , same reasons).
Another solution might be account bound renown and conduit but this will be still bad for new and returning players.
Proper upgrade tokens for conduit might fix the conduit issue. Atm korthia ones upgrade it 1 per rank. If we get a fixed value random conduit this might fix the issue. For example getting a random 226 conduit or a specific one maybe. Maybe a conduit vendor.
If this problem doesn’t get adressed soon this will surely become a huge problem act when you have things partially under control. I’m not asking for this system to be scrapped ( which is impossible at this point because even flying is invested in this) but if we don’t get a fix soon playing alts or returning to the game will become impossible.
Eh, probably just gonna make more catchups, takes a few hours of playtime to hit 40+ renown now so don’t see why it’ll be worse when we have 80 renown. Conduits you’re gonna be behind forever if you don’t raid mythic anyway.
You could’ve done more with the renown system, that’s for sure. E. g. attach tier sets or additional valor points to it. 80 levels that are mainly filled with a few mounts and a transmog set plus some minor conduit improvements seem a bit poor for all the effort put into it on player’s side. None of it helps the gameplay significantly.
The conduits are changed though, dungeon drops 226 ones now if you do m+ so you’re caught up to non raiders and just need to grind Korthia for the upgrade tokens from there like everyone else that isn’t PvPing or raiding
The entire renown, soulbind, and conduit system is bad. Blizz could just delete it entirely and nobody would miss it. It doesn’t add any fun; it’s just feature bloat.
What puts me more off playing alts are the covenant campaign quests, though. I find quests incredibly boring and the story in Shadowlands is so bad that I don’t read any quest texts and instantly skip all cutscenes. I used to like Tyrande as a WoW character, but I even skipped the cutscenes from the Kortha chapter 7 cutscenes involving her.
Most features that reward renown are capped per day, so if you double the amount of renown someone has to get back, it simply means you will quickly exhaust the usual ways to get it, and will have to do dungeons till your eyes bleed (substantially more than double the number you have to do now).
So on the very basic level its obvious that it will be worse than it is now
Bigger numbers scare people and make them quit before trying. Literally leveling from 1 to 120 takes similar time to level 1-60 after the squish but all the friends i have from irl restarting wow or just started wow are less scared to grind 60 lvls. Basically human psychology. Also if they continue this trend during 9.2 we will have 120 and 9.3 will be 160 , those are really big numbers to easily scare someone off
Well, it will take a few hours * 2
Nobody gets scared if I give you 5 million gold now, do they? Numbers are not a problem, timegating is.
How is that example related to that?
We had this issue before with every previous system in the game which made it extremely hard for new and returning players to start the game. It’s better they fix it while it is still somewhat manageable or at 9.3 we will get 160 renown levels with 2 pages of conduit tree.
I mean they can obviously just change it when need be? It’s not like the renown system rules were chiseled into an ancient stone tablet.
Neither the previous systems was but they choose to not until it gets out of control.
Do you expect Shadowlands to receive many more patches?
I don’t. I really don’t.
I kinda expect 9.2 but i don’t expect to see 9.3
What other system? The bfa neck had 2 level boost quests + ring level nerfs, legion artifact weapon had weekly knowledge throughout the entire expansion.
Plenty of things Blizz do wrong but renown already have a ton of catchups and will do so when people are 80 renown as well so I don’t get what people are on about.
Bfa neck didn’t get fixed until the player rage about unable to play alts catch up wasn’t enough at the start and then they added those skips really late into the patches.Essence didn’t get any catch ups until the vendor came during 8.3.5 and it wasn’t really a catch up. Legion ap locked players to play single character and spec untill 7.2. Legion legendary catch up was introduced during 7.3.5.
Don’t just think about ap wise any system they added into this game didn’t get a single fix until players raged on every platform available and even then it came late. Only difference is renown and conduit isn’t causing the problems previous systems does atm but it will certainly do next patch. What i’m saying is why are they waiting for it to cause problems while it is actually clear that the path they are taking is not good. This xpac should have been alt and new player friendly as they stated but we are straying away from that promise slowly but surely.
I think Blizzard’s plan is to always have 60 levels from now on, with a reset from 60 back to 50 at the start of each new expansion. So levels 1-50 will be old content, and 50-60 will be for the current expansion. The level squish and all the related changes (e.g. the new starting area and Chromie time) were really good - that’s one new system that was introduced with Shadowlands that was overall a big improvement. I just wish we’d get a dungeon queue that covers all expansions.
They’re not though? I was renown capped on my mage 3 days after hitting 60 just from doing the campaign, LFR and some m+.
They already did quite a big catchup for 9.1 so what makes you think they won’t if they double max renown level again?
It tooks like a week to get 40-50 ish atm and we don’t have 80 available yet probably will take 1.5-2 to get 80 later ( talking about casual / new player experience here not someone who power levels in m+ and it will probably take longer then that for those players who doesn’t powerlevel) . Like i said before i do know people who got scared about 120 lvl cap and didn’t start the game until it gets dropped to 60 and which tooks almost same commitment to level literally. If i started wow during 9.2 or 9.3 i won’t be happy to see 160 lvls of renown waiting there to be leveled and probably at 150 lvl it unlocks everything doesn’t matter if it still takes 2 weeks to do them all think it like that. They most likely won’t let you skip levels cuz it is bound to flying atm.
What makes you think it’s arithmetic progression, it might be 160 in 9.2 and 320 in 9.3
