After playing the first weeks of the expansion and 2 raidnights I would like to give some feedback for the hunter class. This is also in response to the recent tuning and reworks you are doing right now.
Beastmastery:
-
Basilisk Collar: This talent is so invasise in its interaction with our pet damage that it has completely overtaken the gameplay and tuning. Now our whole gameplay loop is based around applying DoT-effects so that our pet does more damage. We are not able to output enough DoT Effects in aoe to make use of the talent. So while this talent exists our Cleave and Aoe Damage will always be bad. Please nerf the Talent down to 1%/2% increase in damage taken and increase the output in the Beastmaster’s toolkit (Kill Command, Cobra Shot, Barbed Shot, Multishot). Please also reconsider BM’s damage distribution, your active buttons (except Kill Command, since it’s output is already high) would feel better if they did more damage, compared to passive effects. Since a lot of our damage is enhanced through DoT-effects we are also weak in the target swapping niche, which used to be one of Beastmaster’s strength.
-
Dire Beast: The Dire Beast talents have also taken over the specialization, a substantial amount of our damage is coming from Dire Beast, Hati and Fenryr (18-20% of our overall damage). Dire Frenzy seems too strong, since it amplifies the damage by 60%. Maybe the baseline damage could be upped, and the Talent could be nerfed, or changed to a point like the Season 3 Tierset. Maybe the most recent Dire Beast could benefit from Beastcleave. So that the talent is more of a situational choice. As stated in the first point a lot of the passive damage coming from Dire Beast could be put into your active buttons, this would feel much better.
-
Beastmaster’s launch sequence right now feels awful, this gets better with the removal of Black Arrow. Bestial Wrath and Call of the Wild don’t need to be on the gcd.
-
The Aoe investment is also weirdly high with 3 Points, maybe Multishot could be made baseline or Beast Cleave and Kill Cleave could be combined. Right now, you only lose like 5-6% Single target damage to pick your “aoe Spec”, which is much better than last Expansion (you lost like 15% in S3/4) but the aoe damage you get is non-existent. At this point, BM only feels good in pure single target encounters. (Balance just got their Starfall baseline, can you please do the same for hunters aswell).
-
The New Talents sound cool but not that exciting, though i like the idea of Frenzy being a longer buff.
Marksmanship:
- Rapid Fire could give a stack of precise shots, it would round out the gameplay. With this change you wouldn’t need to press a naked Multishot after Rapid Fire. Maybe you could also bring back the Dragonflight Season 3/4 Tierset in the form of a Talent, maybe as a choice node for Small Game Hunter, so that you can decide between a more Trick Shot or Multishot based AoE profile. It felt super good to play during Trueshot.
- With the addition of Deathblow to the Hunter Tree one of MM’s biggest weakness also gets reduced, since we don’t loose that much single target damage when switching to an “aoe spec”.
- It would be nice to be able to switch your utility as a MM Hunter without the need to summoning and then dismissing your pet.
I know of lot of this Feedback has already been given, but given the current state of Hunter i felt the need to point it out again. I hope this helps you in finding the painpoints of Beastmastery and the class in general.
