Hunter in SoD

Really.

So what about when a Druid crits for 600+ with Starsurge or a Priest melts you in 5 secs with those crazy mini-pets beating on you or a Rogue stunlocks and stabs you to death with a pair of grey skinning knives just because they can?

At L25 I would expect there to be some imbalances and there are elite players of all classes in PvP.

The whole dynamic will change again in a few weeks time, so you can have a moan about the next ‘overpowered’ class.

Yeah I’ve been playing a hunter alt that is melee and it’s working pretty smooth tbh but I’ve also played Warrior and Rogue and they have far more utility to their melee abilities than a melee hunter could even think of.

I think a simple solution is that if Lion is removed then just replace it with some new melee rune that swaps Arcane Shot for Arcane Hook (Harpoon in retail basically) and adds jumpback to Disengage. That way we can Disengage to create distance, use a sting, then hook ourselves back into the action. Being able to disengage properly and jump back would offer tons of utility for the hunter, especially if we get combat traps as well.

One rune = one ability is just not enough. Hunter’s core set of abilities need alteration for Melee to distinguish itself. And since melee isn’t going to be using a lot of ranged shots anyway might as well just convert them into new melee abilities with a laundry list rune.

It’s the same problem as before. No new utility so nothing feels different. Melee Hunter is basically just an inbetween of Rogue and Warrior but with none of the utility barring the pet (which ranged already has).

no & no - i realize u feel secure in yr role in the guild or however ure situated, or u dont care that much abt raids. all fine, that.
but we where in that situation in classic, and there was 1 spot for hunters then. just 1, of 40, for the games most populated class.
thats because all we have is damage, and if it isnt competative, we fubared.
its just not viable, unless they give us better pet-tanks than warriors will be aso. not very likely…

lone wolf should be 30% and have either dz removed, or a leap abillity added to it, and a passive 5% dodge

exploshot should be restored as was. it was op at launch but not now, and wount be when everyones aoe goes nuts at 40.

… But that’s why I’m asking for utility skills that aren’t damage.
If you don’t bring a hunter, you don’t get those skills.
Might even need two or three hunters for all utility skill combinations.

It needs to be something devilishly delicious that you can’t get anywhere else though.
Should there be a pure DPS rune option as well for just pump n dump dps? Absolutely.
But I want the selling point of SoD to live up what was promised. SOmething crazy. Something new. Apart from my pet taunting and walking around as a constant totem nothing really feels new.

[edit]

A new rune that could fix Explosive Shot is something that goes “every hunter attack gives blabla”, let’s say it is 1% damage over the course of 10 seconds, beginning it’s stack there. In an AOE situation of 5 enemies each explosive shot could raise it a total of 15%, Serpent Spread could make one Multishot give 9% (as each sting tick counts), then you cap it off with a volley where each tick advances it by 5% for the next tick until the timer runs out.

No idea how powerful this’d be but that would synergize Explosive Shot and Serpent Spread for an AOE hunter.

(after timer runs out you cannot get this effect again for 20 seconds, it only starts when you use an AOE ability)

nah. ive played buffbot before. its not fun at all. id just not play hunter if i couldnt do proper dps. 3/40 isnt great either. its still 13 warriors and 5 druids. rogue mite sit out if the utillity was good enough. the problem is the OP warriors.

on par with the rest of the phys damageclasses in endgame gear and buffs, that was the promise in make everyone OP. ill take that.

then yes, we should get a lone wolf style that works, with strong melee and fun tricks. and BM as a tankspec, so we dont suffer nerfs again and again and…

i agree with u, mostly. its just the dps potential that cant suffer, or the class is wasted again.

not a bad idea - tho i dont see someone speccing for aoe as a build. it would end up as an FD macro swap of gear to get the rune on tbh.

You’re right, I didn’t think about the 40 man content…

I’mma be honest… I’ve never played the 40 man content and I found 25 man to be a clusterduck to deal with in TBC and Wrath so I’m crossing my fingers that they’ll revamp those later raids to 10 or 20 man.

I think I keep blocking it out of my memory because of how distasteful I find the idea of having to deal with 40 people once a week in a raid where I can’t even see what’s happening because of the ability effects going on all over the place.

But I mean if that’s the classic vanilla experience then I guess I’ll just tap out when we get there.

sigh

Ok, well, if everything has to be tied to DPS then I guess the runes should just synergize with one another for different playstyles but offer similar DPS outputs. Utility + DPS ? I don’t know… 40 players… Ugh. It was way easier to think of neat abilities that could work in a tighter group setting but making classes viable for a 40 group content, I have no idea how to even do that. Too many variables.

Nope. 40 man raiding is a Classic thing and it’s surprisingly enjoyable. It’s less of a mess than what 25 man in TBC and future expansions is because there’s less overall mechanics. Kael’Thas in Tempest Keep had more mechanics than MC, BWL and AQ40 combined.

A nightmare for pug-organisers though, I’m sure.

I can’t believe you are still crying about hunters. Mages clear solo whole dungeons, dudus kill 3 or 4 players without a sweat. Locks killing 2 or 3 players
Maybe, just maybe you are bad at the game.
“Should I cry nerd druids hibernation, I’m useless without my pet”
Get real, quit complaining and get better and learn which class to avoid

fair enuff - im pretty sure aggrend said in an interview that 40 man at 60 is comming.
so it will be the meta setup we have to deal with. the stacking of classes and very few successful pugs as its hard to organize. guilds with 200+ players, and progress-content raids setup as meta goes.

like Miylee says, its fun when it works well.
just avoid being an officer lol. its a job, not a prize.

yea. its just dps. thats it, unless u can tank or heal. with HotL & TSA both being raidwide, we will need to be competative on dps to get more than the 1 spot we did in classic.
