From the limited pool of WotLK beta vids/streams we have seen so far, it appears that Auto Shot now causes delay (equivalent to a full swing) on next melee attack/raptor, which essentially kills melee-weaving. This has been an engaging playstyle with growing popularity over the course of classic and TBC, and it would be a severe detriment to the Hunter class were it removed.
Is the change to how Auto Shot interacts with melee swings a bug, or an intentional change to nullify this playstle?
Nobody cares about melee weaving, I’d wager the majority of players want it gone, not the opposite way. Melee weaving was a way to increase dps using borderline TOS mouse macros/autohotkey where pretty much every hunter that didn’t do that ended up losing dps by attempting it.
One of the hunters I played with in TBC was a rank 1 parser level player, one of the best hunters in the world and he was 100% against melee weaving, while beating melee weaving hunters until the chinese players came up with a way to foolproof it by effectively cheating.
Completely wrong on all accounts. Weaving is a significant increase (i.e. easily worth 15% of your dps) even done manually, and plenty people have demonstrated that to be the case. The hunter you played with, whilst perhaps good, was objectively wrong.
Whilst I agree that the top logs have been scuffed by AHK and mouse macros (moreso the latter since it doesn’t seem to be bannable), the majority of people weaving are still doing so manually.
By plenty of people you mean the very few people who play at the absolute cutting edge of skill in the game, and who typically do it only semi-successfully.
Until the cheaters came along it was a non-factor on the logs. Let WOTLK be as it should be, and let melee-weaving die with TBC.
I agree, its clunky and feels very weird to play as a Hunter, especially BM/MM.
I can maybe get behind the idea of a Survival Hunter weaving in Traps and Strikes occasionally for a small improvement
So we should just cater to people who are too bad/lazy/minsinformed to give it a proper try?
Zeroji (Sathele) was top surv in a mid-core guild since release and was weaving the whole time. Weaving was still ahead even in P2 with unfriendly fights, but yes it grew a lot in P3 with most of the fights being target dummies.
