Why is it that Hunters pets can still tank 3 x mobs 4-5 levels higher than them and not die before the 3 mobs are dead? Actually they barely even get below 30% hp after tanking 3 mobs that are significantly higher level of pet.
It’s actually insane that a Hunters pet is better than all tank classes at soaking up damage. It’s also a serious issue because of the amount of bots that abuse this in dungeons and higher level areas to generate gold.
At this point I don’t even care about the dmg or the fact that Hunters pets don’t seem to be effected by the 25% damage reduction debuff in BGs, but no one at this point in the game should be able to solo 3 mobs 4-5 levels higher than them without breaking a sweat.
Idk I feel like hunters always been able to do this quite effectively in classic.
I assume you will also cry on the forums when mages are gonna pull SM in 1 go ad aoe the whole thing down?
They could always grind mobs at a higher level yes, but not 3 mobs of 4-5 lvl difference at the same time without dipping below 30% hp with the hunter basically semi afk.
Yes mages aoe farm which actually takes a bit of practice, focus and skill to do effectively and they generally do it in mobs of the same or lower lvl.
The bigger picture is how useful it is to bots having the ability to run hunters non stop because they can tank multiple mobs and elite of much higher levels.
Because of the BM rune and BM talents. In the talent tree it is still a choice between dps and pet survivability.
I’m (barely) able to solo 3 mobs 4-5 lvl higher but I’m definitely ‘breaking a sweat’ because 1) the pet can’t survive in that scenario 2) it can’t generate enough threat due to resists and glancing.

With a hunter semi afk, mostly using the pet and auto attacks from hunter, I was able to do SFK many times without any issues, warlock + hunter combo.
SoD is just a cheap retail copy, remove all challenge except if you go in a raid, world no longer has any danger with everyone being able to kill everything easily.
tanking 3 +3 mobs isnt an easy task, and its a case of we use talents to buff pets into a tank (thick hide 3/3 = 30% armour gain) , (endurance training 5/5 = 15% health gain on pet)
thats 8/16 talent points into buffing a pets survivability, on top of running BM rune instead of Explosive/Chimera/Carve etc which is just a passive.
This is why some look tanky and if you open your eyes you will see, some do not.
we have been nerfed enough, get over it. We have Warriors tanking dungeons without shields? hello? ?? ?? in fury spec? they dont even need tank spec to do it!, #cry nerf warriors?
oh lets also not forget, Go to the Wetlands, to the Hyperspawn locations down the south east, watch the CLOTH mage, pull 6+ mobs, and end the pull on 100% Hp… yea, balanced…
Lvl 30 mobs are more difficult than anything you can find in SFK. The only reason hunters still do alright against them is because ranged attacks care only about hit chance, there is no glancing or resists. Nothing to do with the pet.
Depends. Retail has a much bigger spectrum for NPC strength in the open world. Soloing a rare elite is a different experience than killing 10 ducks. I kinda agree though but it’s because you can engage everything on your own terms due to flying mounts.
And classic dungeons are a joke, mobs hit like wet noodles.
It was the pet that made it possible to do at all, due to it being able to tank a lot without any real healer.
My point was, it should not have been easy to do at all, never before in Classic would it have been possible without taking much more effort and time, can I expect to be able to do most dungeons like this?
Because except for a few high lv dungeons and specific bosses, i’m pretty sure I can keep doing it at higher lvl.
I stopped playing retail because the open world started feeling like a joke, even world bosses and any other kind of elite was like a wet noodle and died in seconds.
Is it better now? Could be, they already lost me so I wont go and buy any more expansions, they’ve showed that they do not care about the lore for a while now so I have zero interest in going back.
Uldaman Stonemaul Maulers/brawlers would like to have a word with you, they usually melt tanks if you engage them wrong, seen lots of ppl die there due to underestimating their dmg output when enraged.
SM Mymidons are also a good example of dungeon mobs capable of quickly melting ppl if not handled correctly.
Heck, even Arugals Void Bolts in SFK hits pretty hard for the health people are expected to have at that lvl, but you can LoS him easily which vastly reduces the amount of dmg taken.
Yes absolutely but that wasn’t my point. I was talking about a high level mobs, the pet can barely do anything to them. The ranged attacks however still do the job and will pull threat.
