This is an amazing feature. For the uninitiated: most rares and tameable bosses now retain their name when tamed. But it seems Blizzard forgot a few of them. I was personally hoping to tame Ayamiss the Hunter. “Wasp” just doesn’t have the same ring to it. I would say, any beast with an actual name should be able to keep it. Such an awesome feature should be implemented fully. No exceptions.
That or allow us to use spaces and lore friendly symbols such as ’ and -
By allowing those we could either give back their original names, or simply have more options for a different name.
For example, I wanted to name my owl Thori’Dure and my tiger Fin’Melorn, but can’t use ’ on the names, despite being lore friendly.

I’ve always been an advocate of allowing us to use a single apostrophe and a single hyphen in any name, including character names. Spaces I kind of get because of titles, but there’s no reason not to allow something we see very often with NPC names.

Elegon also changes to spirit beast when tamed I noticed, but atleast Miau kept her name when tamed
In general it’s very iffy on what NPC retains its name or not.
Sadly there’s not much we can do except report it as a bug or unintended feature.
