BM - Lots of movement, short cooldowns, good AOE, pet focused. Supposedly lower of the 3 specs atm
MM - Hard casting orientated, no pet needed, great aoe, best numbers of 3 specs atm
Surv - Melee, usual melee pros and cons, pet orientated, good output
Depends what you’ll be doing on it really. Any spec you find fun is the best spec until you decide to push +20 or go into world first raiding.
Different pets have different uses and abilities, all do the same amount of damage. Check petopia for your preferred one, but I always used spirit beasts on my BM hunter
I use a core hound all the time, he’s called flameface he also has a brother called flameymc from those glory days of legion when I could have two pets and one didn’t have to be Hati.
I’m a fairly solo player and he fits most stuff I do.
I also have a stag that can tank too if I need that but rarely use that one.
Just have some fun collecting different pets, you can stable them and hold five at a time, and just see what feels right. Also the advice above is sound.
Firstly, it is important to note that all pets do the same damage . They only differ in their utility and occasionally defensive capabilities.
For Raiding and Mythic+, we recommend using a Spirit Beast pet in pretty much all situations. They have a heal that you can cast on yourself or any other friendly target, the ability to dispel beneficial effects from your enemies. They are Tenacity pets as well, which gives you increased maximum health and a small defensive in the form of Survival of the Fittest. You should also keep the Spirit Mend auto-cast turned off , saving it for when you need it. We recommend turning off Spirit Walk too, but it is not significant.
For open-world content and leveling, we recommend using a Ferocity pet. The Special Abilities of Core Hounds and Scalehides are generally the best for such content. Ferocity pets give you a Leech bonus, which heals you when you do damage. This is an effective self-sustain when killing mobs and leveling.
Cunning Pets provide a movement speed bonus, trading in defensive passives for mobility. This is useful when you are farming old, trivial content.
BM use a Spirit Beast, their Spirit Mend ability is just too good to not have especially in Raids/dungeons. make a macro to make it target/heal yourself , “/use [@player] spirit mend” .DPS wise anything from the Cat family was always no#1 but since the pet changes back in Legion it doesn’t realy matter. Old time favorite Tank pet for BM Hunters has always been “Terrorpene” the fire tortoise easy to find and tame, spawns right in front of the entrance to Firelands, undoubtedly the best tank pet for many years
MM it doesn’t matter use anything they do very little for the Spec.
If your doing a lot of soloing content or elites until you obtain decent/good gear use a tank pet otherwise I’ve pretty much always used a Cat
If your wondering what can be tamed and what not , also were you can find them go to Petopia web site it has full info on every pet there is in game
pets are separated into 3 sections. Ferocity, Tenacity and Cunning. On top of these each pet class has some special ability.
@op id reccommend checking out
Get a ferocity pet for your own blood lust. Get a spirit beast as these are generally the best general use pets in my experience. Cant advise on pvp pets as i dont pvp.
I usually use ferocity when soloing or when the group needs bloodlust, tenacity in raids or pvp and spirit beasts (exotic) when I’m playing bm as they have heal and dispel. I rarely ever use cunning pets tho.
