Hunter rune rework - my idea

Hey, hunters playstyle atm in SoD are basically the same as in era with some bigger numbers from pets. Our runes are mostly passive and adds almost 0 in terms of gameplay.
Here is my idea of hunter rune rework.

Chest runes:
Beast Mastery (now a chest rune) : Your pet’s damage, health and armor are increased by 30%, and its Focus regeneration by 80%. In addition, your pet’s Growl now also Taunts the target to attack it for 3 sec. Your critical hits with Shot abilities cause your pet’s next 2 special attacks to critically hit. (combine 2 runes). On use ability summons a stable master (not usable in combat) - makes your pet a focus as a BM hunter and give you ability to swap pets at will.

Lone Wolf - You deal 15% increased damage with all attacks while you do not have an active pet. Increases your critical strike chance by 5%, and reduces the Mana cost of all your abilities by 25%. Call pet cant be used in combat and has a 5sec cast time. (combine 2 runes to make a petless MM hunter a viable option)

Aspect of the Lion: The hunter takes on the aspects of a lion, increasing total stats by 10% for all nearby allies, and increasing total stats for the Hunter by an additional 10%. Reduces a cooldown of Raptor Strike by 3 sec. Mongoose Bite no longer have dodge requirements and restore 10% of your max mana, restore 50% of restored mana do your raid members. (a support/melee hunter rune)

Glove runes

Chimera Shot - same but reduce mana cost

Explosive Shot - same

Carve - A sweeping attack that strikes all enemies in front of you for 50% weapon damage. You hit your primary target for additional 50% weapon damage.

Pants rune:

Flanking Strike - same but maybe put a 15 yard gap closer for you and your pet

Kill Command - (15 sec CD) Give the command to kill, your pet instantly dose 100% melee damage and increase his attack speed by 10% for 10sec. Stacks 2 times. Your auto attacks (melee and range) has a 20% chance to reset its cooldown.

Sniper Training : Your Shot abilities gain 10% increased critical strike chance while you have not moved for the last 6 sec, last for 6 sec. Your Aimed Shot gains additional 10% crit chance.

Serpent Spread - Your and your pets attacks have chance to do a bonus nature dmg and apply a stacking poison dot.

This way you get a 3 straightforward gameplays and some room for theory crafting.
All the percentages and dmg values can be changed so we don’t get OP.

your ideas are not badbut i think lone wolf need to be around 30-50% because just 20% all stat is just insane or make the aspect to be 10% only. also make it not share to others because if it shares to others the problem is you are forced into it and forced into meta gameplay or you just dont get into grps and you truely are lone wolf. also bm will be useless if not able to tank and you are going to still have to play aspect of the lion.

or just remove aspect of the lion problems solved with hunter chest rune

edit: even if aspect of the lion was 10% and lone wolf 15% you use still aspect of the lion even solo. also even they removed aspect of lion and you choose between master marksman and lone wolf you dont choose lone wolf because you are useless with no pet and no mana to use abilitys that do 0 dmg anyways.

Blizzard idea with lion rune was to give horde the blessing of king and i made my rune idea based on that. We are forced to use it either way if you are only hunter in the group. the percentage on lone wolf should be subject to change to be inline with other runes ofc. I think the idea of lone wolf is to be a dungeon/raid spec rune, not for solo.

i get get it its nice but it shouldnt be on same row as anything that makes your overall build, or put lonewolf maybe on legs or some other item. i made hunter so i could play lone wolf but no ppl wont let me play it and its so bad that playing with out of pet with aspect of the lion is better even with out of grps

theres lot of problems over all with hunter runes. its not even worth atm use explosion shot or chimera because auto shots do way more and giveing pet 30% more is just insane. also you cant sustain mana costs of the abilitys anyways. maybe abilitys ok in very short fights and after that you take mana breaks

I agree, our playstyle atm is trash. My idea is to make a 3 build. One BM where is focus on pet dmg. One lone wolf where you got alot of mana reduction talents and runes that allow us to be a range turret crit machine and one support melee build. In future (40 man raid) only one hunter will be support build (for horde atleast, palys can buff kings in ally raids). And with future runes and some theory crafting ppl can mage range + melee weaving viable builds or some hybrid playstile.

Some of these ideas are really nice.

I’d add thay petless hunter needs like a 100% damage increase to become viable, otherwise we’re cucking ourselves by not having a pet especially with the deadzone becoming deadly then.

Yeah, all dmg values and percentage should be subject to change to make every playstyle viable. To me lone wolf is like a sniper, high dmg at range but vulnerable up close. Maybe later we get a belt or wrist rune that make our disengage gap maker like in wotlk or retail.

hunters are fine nothing wrong with the “playstyle”

“Fine” playstyle of hunter in SoD i the same as classic era. isn´t the point of SoD to have new ways to play same classes. Every other class got some thing new that makes them play differently then they counterpart in classic era.

Good ideas here, transforming Flanking Strike into a gap closer would actually be interesting to make the hunter’s melee specialization efficient.

But more generally, regarding the melee hunter, I would see more of a rune that transforms certain shots into point blank shots, short range, without dead zone. And transform the traps into bombs usable in combat.

Also play on the link between the hunter and his animal companion, a rune which creates a link between the hunter and the pet, of a certain distance which will add bonuses to the two when they’re close. The hunter’s pet is part of its core gameplay, this is what Blizzard should focus on.

All really good ides. Blizzard should implement in future phases.
