Hunter, shaman, or lock?

Hi everyone, as the title says I’m looking for a ranged dps class to have as an alt (maining a frost Dk)
I don’t care about numbers, just want a class that’s fun to play with and has a fun rotation, I also like shiny buttons (procs)

I only play PvE, don’t do much raids except for lfr, so mostly questing, mytic+ etc, wich class would u recommend? If u got another class that’s tons of fun that’s not hunter shammy or lock , please feel free to share

Thanks In advance

demo lock, nothing is even remotely close to being as fun and fulfilling as demo lock. It is also the best spec that has ever been created.

Don’t listen to him, go play Elemental and don’t look back friend, send those huge meatballs at your worst enemies!

Hunter, but I’m biased…can’t deny that spellcasting has fun animations.

The first rule of WoW: when in doubt, roll a shaman.

What do you consider being fun play? Even among Warlocks there are three very different specs:

  • Affliction - the shadow DOT one with one-two weak burst spells (depending on talents).
  • Destruction - the fire burst one. Decent instant DPS.
  • Demonology - the pet-focused one.

I have yet to play Hunter and Shaman, but I am sure their specs are well as different, so it all boils down to what kind of play you find fun. Do you have patience to wait on the dots to show up on your DPS, or not?

I’d recommend Frost Mage if you’re looking for lots of procs.

My advice out of those three you have pinned down would be Ele shaman. They have really nice toolkit and at the very long last their performance is good as well.

Watching big procs happen finished off with massive Earth Shocks is satisfying even if you are someone who doesn’t put too much attention in Damage.

Personally I find Hunters bit of a bore, since their rotation is so simple.

As for locks cant really talk about them since I have no experience but they do offer variety of playstyles, so if you are someone who gets bored of same thing quickly, they might be up your alley.

Elemental shaman has a lot of fun tools, and a rotation that personally I find more fun than many other casters. It can also vary a fair bit depending on which talents you take.
It lacks that one really huge nuke spell that’s fun to release, but it has a lot of procs and most of the spells hit pretty hard.

Also, if you ever do group torghast runs, you owe it to yourself to run a shaman, it’s hilarious.

Destro lock has chaos bolt. Chaos bolt is fun. But can also feel like a one trick pony (to me) everything just feels like a variant on fireball.

Demo feels great if you love laughing maniacally while your demons swarm the enemy, but it’s not very mobile. Movement fights can hurt, and you sometimes feel like a stationary artillery piece supporting your troops.

Affliction is, less visually exciting than the other two, but if you like DoTs it’s fun to just load everything up around you and watch it die. It’s also pretty mobile with lots of instant casts.

Hunters I can’t really comment on. The numbers are good, but I’ve never quite managed to get into them in the same way I have with casters.

Wow thanks for al the replies!

I think I opt hunter out, since I mained a hunter in legion,

But someone mentioned frost mage, they are very squishy right?

So for warlocks, I always thought I’d hate affli, but mayb it is worth it to take a look at it, since it is something I wouldn’t pick first hand.

Then ele shammy, yeah really want to try it, got a shammy at lvl 16 now, but so far it seems I can’t really get in to the class… will it get better later?

Stormkeeper?

it you don’t like “tag all mobs with some spell” playstyle then you are going to hate it.

Hunter is fairly good i would say but then again, demo exists. It’s still better (says hunter main).

I’m mean, storm keeper is awesome, but it doesn’t quite have the “oomph” you get from smacking someone with a chaos bolt or aimed shot. That’s probably just me though.

Does feel great to spam instant chain lightning though…

If you’re only looking to play ranged DPS, knock Shaman off the list just because you have far fewer options than Hunter or Warlock.

It does. It deals more damage than both those spells in single target situations.

Make them use trinket > hex > flame shock > stormkeeper > echoing shock > lava burst > lightning bolt x2

Fun duel one-shot combo.

Oh yeah, Shaman ST is nasty at the moment.

But I didn’t mean in terms of numbers. Just in terms of how it feels. It’s brilliant in terms of damage output, but it’s part of a sequence of spells rather than one big shot.

Purely personal preference but I’ve always had a soft spot for shotguns and snipers over rapid fire.

I do like the mogs of locks, but I’m also used to move around a lot, is that something u need to learn? Stand still and cast? I like moving, jumping around etc

demons do most of your damage and you have constant demonic core procs that gives you tons of instants. Demo is one of the most mobile casters.

also tyrant is like DROP A BOMB ability. Extremely cool and hitting hard like truck.

Well, if you want ultimate mobility then bm hunter, can do entire rotation while moving.

PS. I am author of rotation helper addon (not going to tell which one) and I have 36 (all) mage tower legion skins so I do have idea about most specs.

If you like procs id go eleshaman. Proc City right there. They also have such good utility. Unfortunately there covenant powers suck pretty hard imo.

Try them all out in a class trial. Create trial, finish initial tutorial. Dont leave the ship. You can now try all 3 specs and talents

Awesome! can I find u somewhere on discord for a chat?
