Hunter Tank 🛡?

That… would… be… AWSOME!

I agree with this unedited statement

stand in line young one, shamans are waiting for tank spec since vanilla

They like to make shamans mad, its an opportunity to make them even madder!

I think more tank/healing specs in general would be nice. However the issue is not making them steal from other specs.

I’ve been waiting a loooong time for a shaman tank spec, yet to see it!
A mail tank would be the best option though for sure. I also like one of the posters above ideas of mounting your pet, that’d be sweeeeet.

In the lore, there’s none shaman who tank,
In Hunter tank, we got already rexxar with misha who tank.

Sometime it’s not beacause shaman got a shield they should tank, but does it make lore wise and with a good gameplay to get shaman tank ?

Like they press earth elemental all the time?
And is the gameplay will not look like the same mechanic gameplay of paladin?

I write Hunter tank since it’s a new style of tanking possible. Either way maybe i don’t researched yet but i didn’t found someone who created a gameplay for shaman who tank, or that got a old spell to reference they may tank ( like i do with astery of hunter and growl of the pet and ect…)

For Shamans, (and to me specifically it would be this spec that should get it), enhancement makes sense as a possible tank, using the elements to mitigate damage and stand against the enemy. Cover yourself in stone to protect yourself from the enemy blows, use the wind to disrupt their attacks, fire and lightning to get their attention and keep them focused on you etc. It’s right their in the spec name

This is not what i meant with “gameplay style” , of course all class got their fantasy. But i speak more of technical gameplay for example :

  • Monk : Delay the damage on time and get spell that affect the amount of damage taken

  • Demon Hunter : Generate souls to regenerate life depend of damage taken, Gameplay oriented more into leech damage taken.

  • Warrior : Use shield to block damage, can choose to spend rage on damage or choose to spend it on resistance.

  • Paladin : Use shield to block damage, when injured, call the light to heal himself or his allies.

  • Druid : A Huge massive amount of health that spend rage for getting armor, heal himself by the % of his health.

  • Death Knight : Heal himself for amount of damage taken and from damage on time on his ennemies.

Well that what i meant by style of gameplay. and for that post i meant :

  • Hunter : Use his pet to divide damage between the hunter and pet, use healing coldown to heal himself. ( gameplay change if leech if ferocity pet, armor gameplay if tenacity pet , Dodge gameplay with aspect of the monkey with cunning pet).

I wouldn’t enjoy it nor spec for it if it ever became ‘a thing’.

Shaman: Use offensive attacks to fuel your elemental armor. For every x points of Nature, Fire or Frost damage you deal, you receive y points of absorption on your elemental armor.
Use totems of the corresponding elements to prepare for massive attacks (e.g. earth for armor, frost against fire, fire against frost, etc.)

Basically you are only tanky as long as you dish out enough damage to your enemies. That doesn’t mean you compete with DPS players, but it would focus on an aggressive playstyle where “pulling more” is the best way to keep yourself sustained, but “pulling too much” will quickly overwhelm you.
Think ME3 Vanguard: you are always with one foot in your grave.

This already exist in gw2 (merge, not mount)

The Engineer class in WildStar [RIP] was a pet class, and it could tank. Probably steal from that.

Hunter, Rogue, Mages and Warlocks all sorely need something other than just DPS specs.

One way to make it work is to have the pet health function as your sustain, and make the hunters rotation revolve around not letting your pet die kind of like Stagger and Ignore Pain.
While healers just need to focus at healing the tank itself.

Make no sense, mage is clearly defined as damage dealer, rogue is clearly a stealth damage dealer by gameplay.

And for warlock tank it has been mutated to the gameplay of Demon Hunter in Legion

Rogues use shadow magic which gives them a reasonable source for sustain. Now throw in hallucinogenic toxins as their poisons and possibly illusions and shadow clones and now you got a core design for Rogue tanks.

Mages got both time magic and fire magic, both of which could be sources self healing. Now throw in frost magic for sustain and you got a mage tank.

And for warlocks you just turn Demonology on it’s head (without necessarily removing demonology itself) by making it so that the warlock summons demons that some attack for him and some provide defence, while the warlock himself sacrifices these demons to empower himself.

Boom now you got a tank for all three specs.

Mechagnome Death Knight.

Put yourself fire and ask me if it heal, expecially when blizzard remember play : Don’t stand in the fire.

Staying in Ice Block is not a gameplay tank you know.

Gameplay Dps and summoning demons for tanking is overpowered since dying is the best way to avoid damage.

Even Holy Priest got better tanking spell than those of it.

That phrase is just random…

Cautherize says hi… "Fatal damage instead brings you to 35% health and then burns you for 28% of your maximum health over 6 sec.

While burning, movement slowing effects are suppressed and your movement speed is increased by 150%.

This effect cannot occur more than once every 5 min."

Yet thematically it opens up the possibility for mages to conjure up frost armor and walls to hamper their foes.

Not if the numbers were adjusted to be equal to the other tanks. The offensive summoning is just the core damage rotation.

Okay. So you tank with your pet. You go into a Tol Dagor keystone. Your pet pulls the first pack. The first mob dies. The entire pack and your pet are now in a Sanguine pool. Before the pool times out, your healer is OOM from spamming your pet and you wipe.

You reach the first boss. Your pet growls it and starts tanking. Mosquitos spawn and murder your Warlock because your pet had growl on cooldown and no way to generate any AOE aggro. Then the boss goes underground and your pet bugs out trying to follow it. It zooms around the map and pulls another two packs of trash on top of you.

Somehow you make it into the prison proper. You engage the trash on the first floor. A mob starts running away. Your pet goes after it and growls, pulling another two packs on top of you.

Somehow, miraculously, you reach the second boss. Your pet starts tanking. The first Flashing Daggers cast, everyone hides behind a pillar. Everyone but your pet, which gets one-shot and you are left with no tank.

Somehow, you manage to get to the flamecaster boss regardless. Your team dutifully stacks all the barrels in one corner. Amusingly, that’s the one corner your pet’s AI decides to park itself with the boss. It dies and the boss has to get soloed by that one overgeared DPS in your party while everyone fumes in party chat.

You get to the last leg of trash. Your pet dies three times because it didn’t move out of the fat man’s aoe swipe.

You finally reach Korgus. You are now three hours in, but after four wipes due to your pet parking the boss in the middle of the arena, your group finally falls apart and people put you and your pet on a blacklist so they don’t ever run into you again in a pug.

You decide a change of pace is in order. You queue up for a raid pug. You get accepted because duh, every pug wants tanks. They’re on Vexiona. First pull is over in 30 seconds because your pet positioned both the Void Ascendant AND the dragon to vomit all over the raid. Second pull is a bit better. The Void Ascendant dies. Your pet cannot reset stacks by picking up the orb because it has no hands. You wipe. You decide to log off and go to bed for the night while the first death threats start rolling in /w.

Can we please stop pretending all that a tank does is press taunt and take hits from mobs? And that the job is so easy it can be done by pet AI? Frankly, it’s insulting to people that play the role.

This is not what they are talking about. HOWEVER there has been raids being done by hunters and healer if needed even in BFA.
And in BFA they changed it so pets could not taunt bosses.
Moving the pet is as hard as doing ctrl+3 and click on a place.

But yes the way you think of this and they way it is being talked about here is not the same.
