i would say 8/10 dungeons i am running i have the tank ask me to "hunter, turn off growl"
But it is off i have noticed when i enter a dungeon its off, i even started doubting myself i may of missed clicked and turned it on ,... but i haven't.
Is it because i have looms on ?
Am i missing something in the games mechanics and playing in a way of error and simply am uneducated ?
Is it the pet i am using ?
My Spec?
Please if any fellow hunter or anyone have any light on the subject i would gladly be respectful in listening to you and adjusting my play style.
.. if I'm honest its really putting me off playing the class.
Thanks :)
If people say it at the start of the dungeon it's usually just a friendly reminder.

This ^
Also I ran a few dungeons the other day and was being spammed by this. I double checked it wasn't on and confirmed with the tank that it wasn't multiple times.. Might be part of DBM or another addon that some tanks use to measure threat levels for mobs and it just auto assumes with a hunter that growl is on?
Try keeping an eye on growl and see if maybe ur pet also randomly uses it
My pet usually gets agro while im doing pvworld content, even with growl off, gaining it back moments later.
All our heavy hitters but chimaera adds agro to pet.
There's also that aggro nerf they added, which some tanks seemingly forget about.
Anyway MD the tank and you should be ok, even with a tenacity pet.
No idea why this is, but I have definitely seen my pets growl on CD despite it not being on auto-cast(with the sparkling border).
I can only assume your pet will growl if the target isn't being tanked, or it's a bug. But either way, tell the tank there is nothing you can do about it.
I dont really think it will overaggro my aoe threat (because other players with higher dps dont), so I conclude growl auto off seems to be buggy or acting in a way that is not properly communicated.
Since BfA, the taunt is automatically turned off when you enter a dungeon. Truthfully, I have no idea why tanks are still complaining. If you are BM, I can imagine that the pet can be quite powerful and with a clumsy rookie tank, the chance is big that aggro will be lost. Perhaps it is also just the level you are in right now, maybe it’s scaled in an iffy way. Who knows…
Playing Tank and Hunter.
I know growl is off but for some odd reasons I’ve seen mobs loose to pets that are not my main target when Aoe tanking a group so I think BM pets agro at a higher rate than Players.
I’ve also seen my pet take agro from a well geared and skilled tank when the mob isn’t the tanks main target
My pet sometimes uses growl, when I get hit by a mob while on low health, and when I rezz my pet it also happens every now and then.
But it’s very possible that your pet can get aggro in AoE fights, especially when you deal much more dmg than the tank.
That depends on how you think of your job as a tank. If you’re content with describing it as making sure DPS and healer don’t have aggro, I can see why you wouldn’t mind.
A monster being tanked by fluffy isn’t going to follow you as you reposition, which will weaken the group’s damage. Not only because it’s not in the pack to be AoE’d, but also because the pet isn’t helping the hunter deal damage to the pack (which is not offset by the damage it does to the lone mob). You are further slowed down if you’re stuck in combat afterwards and have to backtrack to kill the mob in case fluffy picked up a weak-hitting but high-health villain.
Even if fluffy doesn’t mess up positioning, it can mess up facing. You have a pack on you, everyone is hitting from behind. Fluffy growls. One mob turns around and if you’re unlucky, it’s one with dangerous frontals causing the group all kinds of problems.
Lastly, as a paladin, aggro is beneficial to you thanks to Grand Crusader. If there’s no risk of death or mechanic messups involved, you should want to have aggro.
Growl is automatically turned off once you enter an instance. But, it is a bit buggy and I’m not sure why Blizzard hasn’t fixed it yet. What I’m talking about is if your pet dies, you revive it and immediately use kill command, your pet will taunt the target even though visually the growl is turned off. Another bug I’ve found is during levelling. If you level up in an instance, your pet will constantly taunt the target while the autocast on growl is off.
