Caves are outrageously dangerous. That’s all I can say. I’ve taken to actively avoiding them without finding a group outside first.
Isn’t there any blue post so many years that explaining the layering and hyperspawn mechanisms?
I don’t know. Try search, and if found, please link.
As said I only telll of my experiences … I been playing no-death on normal servers since long before launch of Classic, so I experienced this Dynamic thing-death or near death quite a lot from 2019 till today. Wetlands is real bad. In old Cata onward, you could clear camps and take chests, since launch of Classic is almost impossible with not die. All in camp insta-spawn when some does the Wetland gauntlet with a body guard, or a dungeon party passing through on road, and then keep on. Sometimes I killed same Gnoll three or four times back to back before running. I even have it pop from people passing on taxa griffons overhead
I never found any explanation article, but would like to read.
They are indeed. Since I almost died in the cave in Loch Modan, I will play safely now. Is there a level at which you are safe to enter caves? When mobs turn green perhaps? Or gray?
I honestly am not sure. Even if they’re green 3-4 of them spawning on top of you will probably still kill you. My recommendation is and remains: Don’t go in on your own. Find someone, anyone, and ask if you can back one another up.
It’s a fun little social aspect we get to have now that the whole server is hardcore instead of just those with the addon. Take advantage of it!
When I asked to join a group, the answer was:
“It’s a collect quest, it will take longer.”
Don’t forget to teabag their corpse afterwards.
I’m sure there are some who do want to team up. I mean sure, it’s a collect quest? Alright, everybody’s competing for mobs anyway. There are no more or fewer quest items dropping for grouping up. He/she is just stupid.
I had to kill 17 mobs to get to the captain inside the keep near Razor Hill due to the respawn rates.
Skull rock and not dead? Lucky one!
Avoid caves on your HC runs.
Look at the “death maps” and see the huge increase in every cave.
It’s a death-trap.
Just did the redridge escort cave run at level 19 with some people. HC isn’t fun when you don’t live on the edge having an entire group of red mobs respawning right into your face
Its not hyperspawn its layer changes probably.
I agree hyperspawns are a little bit overtuned. Caves are dangerous places, that’s a well established fact, and you step in those places at your own risks. I don’t think stepping into caves should be avoided, as they are the best places to really feel the thrill of the hardcore experience. When you step out of the cave alive and you can’t repress a sigh of relief, this is the purpose of playing hardcore, imho.
However, hyperspawns add a lot of randomness. I think getting killed by a mob that you just killed but instantaneously respawned should not be an intended mechanic. As i said caves are dangerous and creepy already, but it’s still fun to risk your character’s life in those confined places. We don’t need them to be able to randomly create situation where the respawn rate makes it impossible to get out.
That’s why there is nonsense to play hc.
The scariest are the server/layer DC.
Agreed. Hyperspawn is not fun to play. Rather have more layers. I can barely kill mobs fast enough and they are respawning with no time to drink. It’s absurd
Pretty much.
Imagine you’re the only one in a cave killing troggs, or whatever.
And another player just happens to wonder close to the mouth of the cave, not even entering the cave, just passing close.
Dynamic respawns immediately trigger and mobs start respawning at a massively accelerated rate.
Happened to me yesterday when doing Absent Minded Prospector in Darkshore on my mage. I killed all the rock golem things and made a nice clear path for that idiot I have to escort. I began the quest, started following the NPC and a random Paladin ran past on the ridge above the ravine, the golems suddenly started respawning like crazy - literally every five seconds, re-popping as fast as I could kill them. NPC died, I failed the quest, and I literally managed to escape by the skin of my teeth with about five hitpoints left and no mana, by running away, and chugging a health pot, dazed, walking slowly with golems wailing on me.
This is what I have been complainig all time!!!
Though this quest is actually a deathtrap on HC Servers because the way the NPCs can spawn at this quest.
Only when it is short of becomming grey it is considered doable solo and even then it is dangerous.
