Back in the day, for TBC every raider had to pick up Leatherworking for Drums of War. Blizzard rightfully in my opinion fixed this in TBC Classic with the debuff so that LW is not obligatory.
Now with Wrath coming next month, a lot of discussion is taking place over the optimal professions for all classes. One profession keeps getting mentioned: Engineering.
While many argue in favor of its convenience, one item from Engineering is referred to constantly as BIS is the Hyperspeed Accelerators. Therefore, it appears that Engineering is to Wrath what Leatherworking was to TBC. Every raider must pick it up.
Are Hyperspeed Accelerators the new drums of war? Do they need to be nerfed so that everyone does not have to pick up engineering for Wrath? Discuss!
They aren’t that strong, I remember vividly that Engineering was not considered the best profession by many top players because they would prefer the extra bonus stats from Blacksmithing/Jewelcrafting, the Tailoring Cloak enchant is also widely considered the most powerful bonus in PVE for many specs.
The hand enchant is not the reason you’d take Engineering, but the nitro boosts and saronite bombs.
Green (8 yard) drums gave Tinnitus in TBC but currently do not give Tinnitus in WotLK, so you now want 20 leatherworkers per raid drumming on cooldown if you want to be ‘optimal’.
This is what Blizzard said they wanted to avoid in TBC and why they added Tinnitus to green drums.
