I already have a degree

I don’t want to get another one to do professions in WoW…

Who the hell designed this sick system? And how is this supposed to be fun?

There are things that need to be improved in the new crafting system but overall it’s a huge improvement.

The old system, you went through it and got to max level in a day by just crafting whatever skilled you up.

People complained and said there was no way to distinguish yourself and there was no depth. They were correct on both counts.

Now Blizz have addressed this with a system that adds depth. You don’t have to “get it” in one day. It’s something you have months to work on / figure out when you get the time / inclination.

Good riddance to Legendaries if you ask me.

Legendary Prof Tools does sound interesting though.

Professions finally got some real value lasting value outside of consumables.

They just need to fix some icky parts like lack of knowledge catch up, lack of knowledge respec and to polish work orders

The ideas are okay it’s the execution. I should not need to invest up to a million (or two) into a profession to get it up and running to a point I can get orders.

I also don’t understand why I have to seek out someone to have an order done. The rankings are an awful curse on the system. If there were no ranks there would actually be far more public orders and people could actually use them to level up their professions and skill up. Instead we see a monopoly of those who got in first, esp with the point exploit early on.

They took the absolute worst aspect of Legendary crafting in SL and made that the system for DF. I am now no longer able to be self sufficient. My main professions are no good to me. I might as well swap out for mining and herbing and make the gold to be able to afford all the things this system has forced me to buy.

I should not have to put on fake orders via an alt to get a weekly quest done. Huge failure.

The problem is that if you start with professions now, you’re still stuck behind timegating. Meaning it’ll take several months to get your crafts up.

Picked alchemy a week ago, still can’t even properly craft R2 stuff despite being 100/100. with 2 blue profession items, and I doubt I’ll be able to upcoming reset or even the one after. It’s even worse if you’re in a profession that relies on work orders.

I’ve probably already spent more time leveling alchemy this week than I’ve spent leveling all previous professions combined since I started playing, and I’m still not able to craft anything meaningful for self-use. I’m still better off buying it off the AH.

I think its always going to be that way anyway since r3 for most stuff will rely on inspiration procs.

Ive not gone into it too deeply but the big drawbacks to me are

  1. what i said above. Max level crafts shouldnt rely on inspiration.
  2. no catchup like you said
  3. no minimum quality in public orders. I dont want to pay so that other people can skill up by crafting me junk.

All in all youre probably better off just selling what you gather and buying the finished product with the proceeds.

imagon beeing a warrior with maxed BS and JC u can just craft ur self a full set all u needs is 1-2 mill gold to buy the marials from AH no longer forced to do M+ or pvp other toxic content

u have also to remember that MMOs and MMORPG has changed in to ORPGs

MMOs are not longer “massive multiplayer” it was maybee massive when they had 1M+ acctive players …

If you do PvE content, I can recommend alchemy. 90 minute phials is a nice bonus.

Honestly thinking of making all my dungeon characters alchemists and just have one that I’m not really doing serious stuff with be the double gatherer. Only down side is my current gatherer is also my favoured alt, and very deep into it and thus very good at it.

So far I’ve only made a few things prompted by some quests. There were all these weird options materials you could add or somehing, didn’t really look into it. I’m not that enthused about it.

The way to make professions interesting is to have interesting things to make, not by making the crafting system convoluted with bloated reagents list and the requirement to study a guide to even understand the basics.

Professions used to be my favorite aspect of the game but ever since WoD it got ruined and they haven’t been able to fix it.

Gathering doesn’t feel rewarding anymore, all the bots/multiboxers going around making herb/ore prices ridiculous low. So this ain’t a good money maker like it used to be.

Crafting wise, some professions like jewelcrafting really have become obselete. Rarely does a gear piece have a gem slot. Maybe they should fix the use of professions instead of changing the profession system.

It’s not ‘you need a degree’ complex
you just need to read ahead a little bit what the skills give you before you invest and think some things through.

My only complaint is that 5 seperate quality ranks is too much, 3 would’ve been enough.
Most customers are only interested in quality 5 which takes a while before you can guarantee and rather then buy a lower quality piece to offer up for recrafting later (you do want q5 in as little recrafts as possible to be efficient with materials used) they wait q5 can be guaranteed which people are now slowly starting to be able to do for certain crafts.

Prices feel like a player problem thing, it’s not like the game is giving you the amount of gold to justify what prices we’re seeing.

I don’t know what blizzard can even do to control this other then completely flood the market by increasing drops by such goofy amounts that it just implodes

I’ve kept engineering because I’ve had it since vanilla, and love my portals and toys from previous expansions. All my alts are engineers as well, for the loot-a-rang.

If it wasn’t for past expansions, I’d do double gathering on all toons. I’m ignoring the professions system, because I’m assuming it’ll be fixed at some point down the line. Whether that’s months or years, I don’t know.
