I have been playing with a friend unfamiliar with Warcraft, he’s been absolutely confused by it. Dropped into dragonflight expected to know who all these characters are with no explanation, them treating him like they know him. I think the story has become too bloated to follow for new players. I truly believe we need to finish the World Soul Saga, have a Cataclysm level event that destroys a lot of Azeroth, have a timeskip (5-10 yrs) kill off some characters and just go back to simple world building, build up a new story. Use chromie time to experience the old stuff but there needs to be a big reset so new players can start with something they can understand from the get go, and if they wanna explore the past, they can go for it with the chromie system.
You are right. But new players should not experience the retail story. Your suggestion simply moves the can further down the line.
In my opinion, instead of a full re-work of the whole world this is what a new player should go through.
- Blizzard should make a brand new continent specifically made for new players. With like 5, 6 or 7 zones.
- New players create their toon and quest in this continent from level 1 to 60. The story should be a really good, awesome story with awesome cut-scenes, vehicles, the whole sh’bang. But generic. Not tied to the retail one.
- The zones will be full of tutorials, events to learn how to heal, tank, DD… with NPC dungeons and raids… ect…
To make this zone “permanent” and stop this cycle of having new people start at X expansion and then suddenly be TPd to the current one… this continent has to be everlasting. To acheive this:
- Once the player reaches level 60. He gets an instant boost to [insert relevant level of current expansion]
- He gets a free set of green gear relevant for the expansion.
- And finally, he gets a cool cinematic/cutscene of “the story so far” that introduces him to the event that lead to [instert current expansion].
- THEN he gets TPd to the relevant expansion.
All blizzard has to do in the future is update those 4 points every time a new expansion rolls around.
Then. Once you get new players out of Chromi time, blizzard is free to use that feature however they want. They can tune, transform, adapt old content however they see fit knowing that new players will not be affected.
- So. Once you reach max level. Chromi appears and explains what you can do to “relive” past expansions with her. Maybe a summary of the story of each expansion, maybe tune the zones so you dont 1-shot everything. Maybe make NPC raids so you can kill the “big-bad” of the expansion… ect…
That is what I would do with new players. Cause I agree with you. New player experience right now sucks big time for them.
If I understood that correctly we will get lorewalker Cho giving us a lore update in the future.
Soundet like it’s intended for new players
Sure, yeah.
As long as all the time we (the long time players) have invested into the game doesn’t go to waste I agree.
But it shouldn’t be done ‘just for new players’. If that would be the sole reason, Blizzard is way better off creating a custom leveling experience that takes you through the big moments of WoW’s history to get a new player up to speed.
I agree that dumping new players in an expansion that continues a 20 year old story is not the way to go.
Little bit of a side-note here.
You re-subed? I can see you are wearing the fox outfit from this month.
If so: WB. I knew you would come back.
Yes they announced it here .
Haha ! I knew it. Tah always comes back.
My dream is for a revamp of EK and Kalimdor, leave the expansion continents as-is, but have basic levelling done in the Vanilla zones, update them to the times at hand, no longer fighting off Garrosh’s Horde (years after he’s dead and even his soul was destroyed in SL), but quests that are timeless, local threats and stuff.
Heck, let’s get really outlandish: Show how things were rebuilt in the meantime, change the world in ways other than “Everything’s wrecked and terrible now”, that’s my single biggest gripe with Cataclysm (Even bigger than getting curb-stomped by the Horde everywhere), besides Desolace, every zone got uglier and worse due to the revamp.
I would cry tears of joy… just imagining seeing even a semi lore accurate Gadgetzan would be amazing. I think having the EK and Kalimdor updated to fit what is going on in the world now would be brilliant. My hope is that the whole Northrend revamp is possiiiibblyyy a sort of “test run” for that. See how players react to a smaller one, if it goes well, maybe EK and Kalimdor follow suit!
A fat one…
You look like a Vulpera that ate his tent. And his wagon.
