I can't choose a main

Hey there, as everyone knows there’s an xpac coming in 20 days, and I still can’t decide what to main…

What I expect to do:

1- Role-wise I enjoy everything but tanking.

2- I like WPvP.

3- I want a class with healing and utility for m+.

4- I like both melee and ranged gameplay.

5- I also like RPing a bit, so class fantasy is a must.

Problem is the only 2 classes that fill those requirements are Shaman and Druid, but I dislike both of them fantasy-wise… And then there’s Rogue which I like enjoy the fantasy and it’s godlike in PvP but not being able to heal in dungeons and being stuck in melee forever is a no-go…

Since there are no classes that meet all the requirements, I’m unsure what to pick, I’ve probably read like a hundred topics about this matter both here and in reddit and still can’t come up with a solution…halp please

In the Venn diagram of your preferences, there exists one option you have not considered where all the stars align: the Rogualadin.

Retri pala.

Sounds like you want to play a Shadow Priest

Also what Uldren said. Ret.

WW/Mistweaver monk would also work. All classes with healing specs have decent M+ utility.

This isn’t really something others can decide for you. Especially things like “class fantasy” are highly subjective.

I’m so confused… To me, your main isn’t just a choice; it’s the one you’ve invested the most time and effort into — like an old friend who’s been with you through countless adventures. Regardless if it’s part of the meta, or whatever you indecisive individuals say. It’s not just about picking a class or race; it’s about the bond you’ve formed, since the beginning of your journey in World of Warcraft. Just as a beloved pet chooses its owner, your main character chooses you. It’s less about deciding, more about recognizing the one that’s already yours.

If this Kul Tiran hunter is the character you’ve invested the most time in, and done the most endgame content as, then you’re stuck with that now. Sorry! Maybe leveling up from 60 to 70 before TWW should be prioritized!

Unfortunately the class fantasy is not for me.

I’ve considered it but point 4 is missing.

But I’m stuck being melee.

I have multiple 70’s of each class and I never managed to play them for more than 2 weeks because I end up either bored or frustrated, and that’s what I wanna change, now that there’s a new xpac coming I want to invest everything into a single character for the whole duration, I just can’t decide what class…

This hunter is just a random trial character I made to test tmogs.

I’d say Rogue

Drachtyr? I guess it fits any of your points

Ah… You should main a demon hunter then! It fits your attention span and dedication. They’re full of lore, they’re annoying to meet in WPvP and occasionally (depending on the patch) impossible to kill :white_heart:

Monk is a pick for you it seems. You’ll have 1 DPS spec and 1 Heal spec with two different playstyles (caster/melee). Amazing RP potential, good utility for M+ (especially as healer you will be in demand as FW works like pseudo-DPS), somewhat survivable in WPvP - not perfect but at least can fight back and unexpectedly nuke someone sometimes.

Well yes, you established from the get go that there are only 2 classes that fill the role and you dont want either of them.

Youre going to have to have some degree of flexibility or youll just end up playing nothing :stuck_out_tongue:

I get it though, my ideal class has ranged, melee, and healing.
But i didnt want druid or shaman so i ended up on monk. No regrets.

I might seem like a good choice but imagine how much time you sit in stealth not playing and waiting for a good opportunity to play the game and if someone aoe you out from stealth you have to clos/vanish and sit scared in stealth waiting for cooldowns.

95% of all rogues runs for their lifes if they dont get the upper hand in fights and refuse to show themselves if clos and vanish is not available.

Looks like hunter is your pick. Don’t know exactly the fantasy it is that you’re looking for but hunter imo always fits well as adventurer. You can play ranged and melee with it. You get a bunch of pets and the defence is pretty good these days.

Shadow is the most fun class to play!

As you’ve said yourself, these are the only two classes that fit all of your criteria. If you don’t want to play either of those, you’re out of luck.

That means you WILL have to prioritise and compromise. No other class will appear any time soon that will fit all of your criteria. So I guess the question is, which criteria are most important to you? Your most restricting criteria seems to be the “must have both ranged and melee dps”. Druid and shaman have that + healing, and hunter has that, but no healing.

Alternatively, have you considered having two characters you consider as your mains? With the warbands, much of your progress will be shared anyway and switching characters shouldn’t have that much of an impact.

Tank + Heal + R-DPS + M-Dps = Druid
Tank + Heal + M-DPS = Paladin, Monk
Tank + M-DPS = Warrior, Death Knight, Demon Hunter
Heal + R-DPS + M-DPS = Shaman
Heal + Support + R-DPS = Evoker
Heal + R-DPS = Priest
R-DPS + M-DPS = Hunter
R-DPS = Mage, Warlock
M-DPS = Rogue

These are the combinations available to you right now, unless I missed some, which is quite possible.

I suggest you just pick the two that you like to play the most that covers all of your criteria between them.

That’s right, I think I’m gonna have to prioritize… playing 2 characters is not an option though, despite warbands.

Out of the 5 requirements I think the least important ones are number 2 (wpvp) and 4 (melee/ranged) and to be honest if I have to choose I’d rather play ranged, so with that in mind it basically narrows down to Priest, although I’ll keep the Shaman leveled up just in case.

Thanks everyone for the responses.

Indeed, if in the end healing and ranged DPS are the most important ones to you, that narrows it down to druid, shaman, evoker and priest. After that it’s down to class fantasy then, according to your criteria.

It sounds like priest is a good choice. You have ranged dps, you have holy heal spec, and you have disc heal spec. I haven’t played much priest myself, but I think disc is also support heavy and kind of heal and dps at the same time, which is good in M+ and PvP. Dedicating yourself to one class also means you can dive into that one and nerd out and become really good at it, which makes it more fun in the long run.

Good luck!

Fantasy-wise the rogue is like a feral spec made into a whole class with a bit more cc and the ability to vanish again during combat. I prefer druid, been maining one for 14 years now and I never regretted it.

That would be my druid but will all the poor changes not really touched since Cata I think, Hunter this one is my first ever and I tend to take him into every expac first :stuck_out_tongue:
