I have a friend who recently boosted his character join my guild a few days back. I tried to promote him from his initiate rankbut I can’t - not to any other rank. All the ranks (from member to Senior Officer) are grayed out with the tooltip saying “Only characters with an Authenticator attached to their account can obtain this rank”. I don’t require Authenticator for any of the ranks though.

How long has your friend been in the guild? See if you can promote him once he has been in the guild for 7 days (or more). If that still does not work out, submit a ticket in-game so the support team can investigate this directly.
