Blizzard had planned Shadowlands 20 years ahead.Change my mind
When people say this, its generally not worth the effort to try.
This thread is Exhibit A.
I actually wonder if we even end up seeing Arthas in the next patch. I dont really recall seeing anything for that so far on the datamining and on the PTR.
i dont think so honestly… i think with WOTLK classic around the corner … it was just a lame attempt to get hype train rolling for it by bringing arthas’s name back into the mix…
consider all of warcraft… classic and retails as one product… because that is how they develop and release it. everything is for a reason connected to the other.
money pushes the ideas in this game. not originality.
I know an image of the lich king shows up during Anduin but other than that I haven’t heard anything
Sry mate, Blizz works a few expansions ahead of release so that their artists can produce the art and assets which requires the theme and most important parts of the lore to be set in stone to a degree, but we’re not talking about a decade ahead.
That’s just a catchy quote they threw around with the overall concept of the shadowlands, not really thinking about the maw or the jailer.
You mean that the entire “Maw/Jailer” theme being basically LK/ICC 2.0 wasn’t enough of a hint ?
Insert shocked Pikachu face
dunno didn’t play it. xD
still oddly knew arthas would come about again though … was a sure thing soon as sylvanas split the helm imo.
its called bad(predictable)story telling
you know without researching it … i was half convinced before even booting up shadowlands for the first time… that the legendary armour in the expansion would be parts of arthas armour or infused by it somehow…
i admit i was at least wrong on that part.
I mean yeah who wouldn’t ?
The very minute SL was announced we started seeing “in case of emergency break the glass & release Arthas” memes.
Barely a few days after reveal they claimed in an interview that they would treat Arthaq with the respect he deserves and not throw him around for the sake of fan service unlike Illidan.
And honestly having the various cinematics & the soul shard in kingsmourne is much tamer than what I expected.
Unless I missed something on the PTR we don’t have the actual soul of arthas as a character in 9.2 and that’s for the better imo.
After legion & how they introduced Illidan I kinda expected him to come back and say “Hey so you know my bff Bolvar, it turns out we’re the good guys and here’s the bad guy so follow my lead I’ll save us all !”
yeah i do not follow the social medias so it was all my own thinking tbh… just shows it was that obvious i guess lol.
oh dw about that im sure illidan will show up again sooner or later. hes too loved to be left in space.
I mean, what state would Arthas be in, if we were to see him now?
A pile of soul ash we made legendary stuff with I suppose. It’s totally legit to create cool stuff of the ashes of dead people.
However, as far as I understand, he has been in the Maw for quite some time now. I don’t think the Jailer is proud, not impressed of and by his long lost pawn, so - again it logically leads me to that pile of ash.
Read with humor please, I don’t wanna be flamed to hell, thank you.
Considering what you said, did the Death Knights actually use parts of his Soul to create the Frost Blades in Legion or was it just Frostmourne?
Theoretically he should just be an soul like others. Unless Frostmourne consumed his soul aswell. I do not know it at the top of my head how exactly Frostmourne functioned for the wielder.
But this is also quite interesting, Frostmourne sucked Souls into the Maw then?
If you mean when Anduin went to steal The Archon’s Seal, that was Uther… not Arthas.
Frostmourne was a vessel to store souls, created by some combination of Zovaal & The Primus.
When Tirion shattered Frostmourne, in Icecrown, the souls were released.
Arthas was eventually cast into The Maw… we just haven’t been told exactly where he is - yet.
No. I mean during the Anduin fight in the upcoming raid.
But they broke that rule already. While Blizzard hasn’t used Arthas directly (yet) they have already downgraded his status as Lich King, removed his agency as a character, destroyed his crown, created a “better” frostmourne and retconned some of the characters surrounding him.
Now this is purely subjective but I ended up liking Illidan more after Legion while now in SL I’m starting to lose interest in Arthas.
I really doubt that they planned all of this. If they did then the lore wouldnt need to be retconed and we would have some hints along the way about this.
An afterlife expansion was in their minds at some point I think, but the Jailor wasnt. Even during warcraft 3 the frozen throne the ending was that Ner Zhul and Arhas became one, only to be retconed in the rise of the lich king book, just before wotlk that Arthas kicked Ner Zhuls … and is the only one in control. They cant even think 5 years ahead without retconing old lore, let alone 20.
if you were right, blizz would not have had the necessity to retcon lore to make this story fit, and we would have had plenty of foreshadowing for the jailer.
Doubt even that, the concept of the Shadowlands yes, but not as something we as players were meant to explore firsthand.
5 years XD !!? Blizzard can’t go a single patch without contradicting the previous one.
It’s easy to cherry-pick some quotes from early Warcraft and plug them into new content (created with that quote in mind).
Name one original thing in WoW.
More likely his failure would lead to an eternity being tortured in Torghast .
