I don't get why the best WoW version "SoD" is left do die? Its your best GAME!

Yes I’ve said it, SoD is literally the best version of WoW that ever existed, yet it is so surprising to me that they’ve decided to slow or even stop the development, thats a mystery to me!

By the way this is coming from a guy who played this game since release, I started WoW in 2004 in US realms, then jumped to EU in 2005. I had my quits in the middle of few expansions, but to me SoD is the most enjoyable time I’ve had in WoW not entirely but at least for me and you guys are killing it? You’ve got new content/ healing mages/ tanking rogues/ tanking shamans/ nice new abilities in each class/ simple raids that don’t take more than 1 hr/ easy to do dungeons. It’s perfect for dads! I can raid once a week and I am gucci, not to mention SoD has the same beautiful models of the classic wow unlike retail where the new models really killed the game for me.

Retail? I logged today for 5mins, couldn’t handle it and I /quit immediately. Retail has bots and toxic people, its all what I see when i play that version; I queue into a dungeon and i get in with 4 ppl who just run-run-run never speak a word and if I stop for 2secs i get kicked, actually they either don’t speak at all or yell at you, if I do anything in the dungeon ill get toxic ppl yelling at me and they just pull the whole instance want to gogogo, bro what if I want to drink a water? I can’t? the community either silent or toxic that wants to yell/scream/cuss me. In retail also the models are hideous, the MOG of gear is the worst idea that ever existed in the game, I just can’t play that game…you have 6 difficulty of everything and you have infinite keys in dungeon ppl just spam that stuff nonstop, that game is so boring and not for me. Retail is made only for hardcore people, peeps who take the game like a job would enjoy Retail, otherwise you get overwhelmed and just want to /quit, Blizzard turned retail into the nolife job-like type of people, like Maximum from liquid for example, he loves retail why cause its basically his job. Oh the retail also has really bad talents, I dislike everything in retail actually its so bad.

Classic Era is nice but I’ve played this game already and I can’t do it…same with MoP while mop has the nice character models, nice talents, but problem with MoP is also i have played that game!

Can us normal MMORPG players (non-hardcore - who dont play wow as a job) still play SoD? can you at least keep updating it slightly, We dont want a phase every 2-3 months, its ok if you do a phase every year for example! we dont mind…just dont kill it

It is literally your best WoW version, and by a mile.

I agree,
I haven’t had this much fun in WoW since Vanilla. Until phase 6 Azeroth was the main character where you had to explore or go to the open world to get world buffs or farm dungeons for items.
My sub ended and I won’t resub unless there is a phase 9 with roadmap or a solid Classic +.
They did a ton of mistakes in SoD as well it’s not perfect, but it was still fun until phase 8 came out.
People want Classic + not retail -.

i would settle for bits of new content or at least some patch notes / hotfixes every 3ish months.

doesn’t have to be a brand new phase with a new raid and a bunch of new gear upgrades and this and that… just, you know… some signs that at least the janitor or intern is patching leaks in the ship which is on the brink of sinking, y’know.

I agree 1000%. It was completely unnessecary to kill it. I would be happy with some small update every 3 months. They don’t really have to allocate huge resources to it. I look forward to nothing else in the warcraft genre tbh.

said it once ill say it again. SoD TBC. why why why not. its their. scale it to suit and let us all enjoy another 12 months of SoD.

That’s exactly how I feel too.
I also started playing WoW back in 2004 and, though I’ve had long periods of unsubscribing, I’ve played through every expansion.

Until recently, I was still playing my mage on retail — probably somewhere around what I imagine is the upper-middle of TWW players: always getting AOTC, but never stepping into Mythic raids. I played without much excitement, but with a vague curiosity — the way Blizzard has conditioned us to consume their games over the past few years.

Then it only took a few hours on SoD for me to completely walk away from my WoW retail account.
Just like that. Not a single login since. Zero.

That Great Vault I used to stress about filling each week? I didn’t even bother picking up my last piece of loot — that was three months ago, when I started exploring SoD.

Like many, I thought it was just nostalgia. That my love for WoW was a thing of the past.
And yet, here I am, feeling the exact same joy again — thanks to SoD.

To me, they’ve truly recaptured the essence of WoW.
And at the same time, they’ve created something incredibly addictive.
I’d almost go as far as saying SoD is their best creation since Vanilla and BC.

But do they even realize it?

I’m stunned by the decision to end this adventure, especially after the excitement and love it’s generated among players.

One thing’s clear: SoD helped me see the problem wasn’t me — it’s retail itself that’s become repetitive and dull.
And really, it should’ve been obvious.

It is obviously more immersive to spend hours traveling through a living world than jumping from portal to portal.
It is obviously not fun to repeat the same content over and over, just slightly remixed across LFR, Normal, Heroic, Mythic, Awakened, or whatever else — that’s not my idea of fun. It’s no one’s.

So for me, the end of SoD will also be the end of my subscription.
And just like the OP, I would’ve been perfectly happy with a small content update every 5 months.

I just hope Blizzard realizes the mistake they’re making — even from a business standpoint.

I agree 100% My sub stopped with that announcement and will be stopped until at least something that makes sod live again, or classic+.
Best time so far, sad.
