I don't know what to play anymore

This is going to be a very unpopular opinion (or not) but I genuinely don’t know what class or spec to play and IMO every class and spec is awfully designed.
The classes that are praised to be the best in terms of design and fun are at best, mediocre.
Every class doesn’t feel rewarding, I feel like every time I jump to play something I always know how it’s gonna go. The classes are streamlined and boring to such an extent that it doesn’t feel good to press hard hitting abilities or popping cds and watching your DPS or HPS go high in the sky. It’s like oh a 200k crit? cool ig.
I completely understand that “fun” is a subjective term, but when you’ve played everything the game has to offer and you listen to how people try to convince themselves that what they’re playing is fun when in fact the techniques and internal mechanisms of each spec are antiquated and predictable. Very few classes in the game have a dynamic rotation that feels engaging and meaningful. It boils down to in most cases refresh your dots or buffs when they’re about to run out/press CDs when they’re up/press the ‘X’ button when a proc comes up and maybe if you’re lucky you play a class that presses the same 3 buttons for 5 minutes. The last bastion of this game is the community and among the only things that kept me going when I wanted to quit and even with this being the best part of the game somehow Blizzard spits in the face of every single player a little too much at times. I don’t think I will retire because WoW brain is something very real and very dangerous but it saddens me that I can’t enjoy anything in my favorite game. I’m sure others reading this thread have also experienced the same situation and I’m interested to know what you did when all hope ran out. I have every class leveled to 60+ and I’ve tried every spec, I look at my 13 chars and the list feels empty.

That sounds like you could really take a break.

Other than that, gameplay is one thing. Class fantasy is another. For example, I don’t think I would play if WoW hadn’t rogues, druids, or mages.

I have to admit I feel exactly the same. So far in this expansion I have 6/8M, almost 2.8k RIO and 4/5 characters almost 420ilvl and the reason is going between them searching for a reason to keep playing. The dungeons are the most boring they have ever been for me to the point I now just spam 8x SBG per week rather than face them.

One thing I really struggle with is just how many changes are being made. It feels like you just get familiar with a system and they have it replaced with a newer, more convoluted version of what came before and it’s almost like they have to keep creating these new ridiculous things to justify their job role.

There are also no lore characters worth caring about anymore. Even long standing chad veteran lore characters have been diluted or character assassinated to the point they are not what they once were. Raid bosses used to feel so epic, you were excited to get to it and hear the music playing and the RP hit but now we get garbage like Raszageth, feels more like what you’d find in a WoTLK 5 man dungeon.

Blizzard have made so many mistakes internally that they are in damage control mode but it feels like they have no direction of where they want this game to go, they are just depending on hotfixing the game weekly based on outcry on the forums.

Even the new cross faction guild thing comes with a load of needless restrictions like having to add someone on BNET and unable to queue for instanced content together. Lmao let it go Blizzard, there are a handful of people who care about factions at this stage and since you have made them best friends anyway it really does not matter.

The only people left playing this hollow shell of a game are people dependant on it due to addiction.

I aint gonna flame. You have a right to ur own opinon.

However i feel like this sounds like a hard case of burn out.

Class design is as expansive its ever been and confused to what ur really expecting here.

What u describe, is basically exactly how classes have worked in this game and every other mmorpg since the dawn of time.

Heck even other genres.

agree on some parts especially class design, blizz really needs to work it out because when you compare wow classes to other mmos most of them feel dated tbh. wow used to have the better design but it didn’t change much while other mmos all introduced new stuff so wow fell back. dungeons also don’t feel great i mean for season 2 the only dungeon i’m excited to play is a bfa ona lol.
retri rework was the first move since dh introduction that felt like an overall improvement and modernisation.

I would generally disagree with this. I tried 2 other MMOs to a level where I could say I had a pretty thorough experience and bothered to learn the classes I chose to play respectfully.
Them being ESO and FF14. ESO is an animation canceling fiesta with an insane amount of micromanagement Dark Soul like-ish movement and talent system that is reminiscent of Classic where you can spec into your other specs whilst still focusing on your main one. The thing that threw me off ESO is irl stuff that led me to have bad memories anytime I play the game.
FF14 whilst missing any form of talents has a very dynamic rotation that can split itself at times to 3 different pathways which are somehow still fairly easy to figure out if you don’t just boost and play the class, it’s the only game I played a tank with as my main spec, the reason I didn’t go on with that game is the community being very nice but also very weird at times, like, very weird and the general aesthetic of the game not hitting the spot.
I also played Maplestory but that game is an abomination so it’s honestly best we don’t talk about it.
WoW wins out with it’s unique aesthetic, okay-ish community (better than the other 2 at least), lore (when it existed) and the general feel of the game is smoother than other MMOs. The closest class I found for me personally that achieves the kind of playstyle I enjoy is fire mage, and anybody who knows anything about current fire mage would know it’s in a below average state in terms of design (the whole right side of the tree is completely useless and there’s only 1 viable build that serves both AOE and ST), and the tier set that is to come pretty much griefs the current playstyle so that’s just great game design. Other than survival which has no identity and shouldn’t even exist at this point I’m pretty sure mages are second in command when it comes to Blizzard having no idea what they’re doing.

Well yes ESO os anomational cancelling. But its not rly dynamic lol.

And ffxiv, i dont remember any classes that as of recent do this. And guide sites on their classes arent showing splits in their rotations.

If no class feels fun why are you even playing?

It’s not a matter of it being an unpopular opinion, more like “why play if the vehicle through which you interact with the game doesn’t make it fun?”

I’m actually baffled.

Play another game if you don’t like any of the classes. You’re playing the wrong game if that’s the case.

maybe they enjoy the game and want to play wow ?

take a break and try gold/tmog/mount farming it gets addictive

Does not compute.

How do you hop on to play, hate everything about every class and think what you just articulated?

well they might not like class designs and still want to play the game tho, there isn’t much variety on class designs in wow so if you don’t like one of them there’s a high chance that you might not like some other either.

At the same time even if true.

The situation isnt fixable. U cant redesign the entire gsmes class design based on one input of feedback. It dont work that way.

Blizzard cant balance design to every individuals wants, they just have to design them to a fashion they personally want and move on.

I havent rly found any mmorpg to have fully dynamic rotations. As generally a rotation set becomes the highest dps output overall, however there always has been alterations made on jusgement based around accessible CDs and more.

Kinda a lie.

Just because someones opinon differs to yours, doesnt mean addiction. We all enjoy different things and find different things fun. Lol.

Its the best mmorpg avaliable imo others will disagree, that aint a sign of addictions. Its personal Bias.

i think it’s possible to modernise classes, i like the chagnes they did to retri for example, it finally feels like a modern mmo class , if they keep doing that and adress the issues every classes have then people might have easier time to choose a class.

What?

Ret was a backstep in design not a modernisation. Its become the worst class in the game from a gameplay PoV.

DH in legion launch was more engaging

And also rets rework isnt what OP is asking for. If anything its the complete opposite.

Ret doesnt feel like a mmo design lol. It feels like a MoBA design, Heres a hint, Mmo classes have more then 6 abilities.

Ret is braindead design. And no imho thats the complete opposite to what its susposed to be.

well not in every mmos  idk i find new version of retri very similar to what other mmos have. it’s easy but also fun unlike the older version which was just boring

No the old ones fun. This ones puts me to sleep, the class is a utter meme for 5 year olds.

Shadow priest in current design is a perfect example of exceptional design. Which is being butchered in 10.1 to be alot less fun

And no. Its not.

Ffxiv classes are ALOT more complex then Paladins and id go as far as to say in gw2 and eso u have more abilities

idk how can you say old retri was more fun and sp is exceptional in the same sentence .

average gw2 and eso player uses less abilites than a retri paladin , it’s 2 bars =10 and 6 utilities =16 and you don’t use all of them for your rotation , if you count everything retri can use it’s more than that . it’s just easy to manage ofc you don’t need every spell you can use

No this is just an hard case of “i need a break from WoW”.

At the end of the day, classes do not need rocket science level of rotation to be fun and engaging, especially if the content you put those classes into has a decent difficulty that you need to keep an eye out for.

If you really can’t settle in ANY class in WoW i am more incline to believe the problem is the single player and not in the 38 specs.
