After playing Monk for a while, I’m coming to resent the Energy bar, especially with Ascension. Feels less like a resource to spend and more like a meter that I can’t allow to reach 100%, just another thing to juggle. Now I’m looking for alternatives. Obviously there’s mana and that’s fine. I assume Focus ends up feeling similar to Energy? What about Rage? I know that one’s less predictable / steady, but does it end up feeling overbearing or do you just dump it every once in a while?
That’s a really interesting angle! We don’t see people asking about resource management much.
We also don’t often see newcomers asking about resource management at all - that’s usually a matter for more advanced play.
For Warriors of all specs, Rage management is a thing. But you have plenty of Rage dumps available at all times, so it may not feel so overbearing. There are also distinct differences between the feel of Arms and Fury that you might want to check out.
I find Focus a thing in MM and BM Hunter specs, but mostly that Irun out of it rather than overcap on it. However, my impression is that Survival, the melee spec, doesn’t interact with it as much.
Ret Paladin operates on Holy Power, which you build and spend in a very predictable way.
Don’t even ask me about Energy for Ferals. I have learned that managing Energy and Bleeds is beyond me. Energy and Combo Points for Rogues are pretty predictable.
For Arcane Mages, Mana management is a big deal. The other specs never really need to look at it at all.
My best advice is to watch some YouTube videos on the specs you are interested in. They are the best way to get a feel for the gameplay without actually levelling one.
Nice, thanks. I’m not new at all, but have always ended up playing a mana spec with a “it can technically run out during combat, but not really” feel since Cata. So playing with a resource that has a low cap and fast regeneration feels overbearing. I was talking about MoP Classic and later, but I will check out videos like you suggested.
Well, if you’re looking for a MoP melee class, make sure to check out Arms. I recall it was very good then.
Works the same for range. Don’t overcap and also don’t go dry
