Well tbh fire arriving in top 5 in m+ proves they havent abandoned it. But yeah it defintly hasnt fallen in favor meta wise

That came from a flat % buff. We seem to be at the bottom of the to do list rn, weā€™ll just have to wait our turn I suppose.

Mage gameplay took nosedive after MoP. Itā€™s no longer fun. Donā€™t care about the numbers. Wrath is superior, but it will end in 1,5 years and Cata will not happen.

It has for the most part.

Bloat talents that dont need to be in the tree.
AOE talents that no one takes because we already do bad enough dps in high keys that no one wants us.

Talents that make no sense, like faster casting pyro with a super reduced time on combustion, longer lasting combustion with little to no actual mastery conversion.

30 seconds for skb but upon finaly building enough stack you only get half that time to use it.

Extra phoenix flames that should benefit from extra stack of mastery talent but does not.

Being rewarded extra mastery for not using phoenix flames.

Phoenix flames still not able to destroy explosives, which is utterly retarded, whilst everyone else and their granny just breaths on them to delete them.

Stupidly long cast times even with base 30% haste and forced movement in almost every weekly affix.

Its very obvious the muppets in charge only care about 1 type of game play and its melee face roll spam to do 1.5 to 2 x the damage you can do with half the effort.

They care only about Mythic Dungeons, Mythic Raid Bosses and 3v3 2.7K+ PvP. Less than 3% people who need to feel special for being ā€œgoodā€.

Everything else is abandoned including gameplay, server tech, balance and Class design. Game still sells and people buy it no matter how broken it is.

Pf, all dps classes is suck equally, since PI exist.

Im a mage main since tbc but these daysā€¦ I dont really enjoy playing it. The whole idea of huging rune of power always just ****. Maybe mage is the worst solo class, whiteout pulls u like u can do 0 competent dmg in m+. Fire is good, with a good team for sureā€¦ But with pugs its nearly unplayable. The whole class is a big TRYHARD. I think last time it was fun to play in BFA with the glacial spike build. As i see in this season most of the pure dps classes just ****, except rouge ā€¦ Just look at this meta dh, monk, druid, shaman and all multi spec classes dominating the meta, and the pure dps classes all at the bottom. Pathetic balance.

I love playing fire mage and Iā€™m not saying heā€™s weak. But what annoys me is that I have trouble getting to any 21-22m+

It seems to me that no one wants a mage in the party, while there are several dungeons where he is able to have the highest dmg.

I know itā€™s not all about DPS. Mage has a lot of cc, survivability, etcā€¦ But no one in pug looks at that. So for that reason alone, for the first time even after all the buffs, I would like him to get another buff or change.

Just something after which it wouldnā€™t be a problem to get to higher keys.
Iā€™m currently playing on 2.8K rio + and itā€™s really hell to push on if no one wants you.

Btw: this season/patch/expansion I said to myself for the first time that I will not progress the raid and therefore I do not know how the fire mage performs in the raid.

I am also finding majority of 20 or highers keys, no one wants to invite my mage and thats with a 416 ilvl and 2500+ raider IO.

Yes we can output some nice damage but when every other dps is doing 1.5 to 2 x the damage we can do on a entire run, its fairly obvious why no one wants to take a mage.

So yea fire still needs some buffs as even experimenting with all the end dps talents we just are not getting the numbers many get for half the effort.

I think the problem is the same like in shadowlands. Sure, mage could do nice dps, but only if the tank knows how to pull for you. With pugs u will s**ck. And this is the overal problem i think. Usually pugs wonā€™t play to our advantage, ppl saw many mages with bad dps because of this and they will not invite us. Other thing, mage is a bit tryhard even with good team, others classes preform better whiteout any expectations. +just look at the meta, where are we now? 12/13. place? Its bad when we talking about a pure dps class. I know meta is not everything but ppl will not invite us to high keys, they want only dhs monk and rougesā€¦

Sadly blizzard dont care about things like this. The dev team only like rouges, druids and dhsā€¦ At the last 2 expansions they were always in s tier, and the others struggleing for an invite.

I dont know if its abandoned, or it s good like this.
I was the " i ll never be anything else but mage " kind of player.
Yet i get to a point in dragonflight when i decided to reroll.

I find all 3 mage spec miserable in m+ ( I dont have own group or anyone to go with ) . After 2 weeks not playing my mage, i tried to do a weekly chest with it. It was Azure vault 17. At start i got 4 stack debuff. I go ice block. Cd getting wasted. I just sit in ice block to survive while others doing their dps. I come out of ice block. 4 stack debuff again. I die. I run back. I place rop, start my dps. Tank move mobs away with no reason (I guess they have a rop detector, when they see it they move away ) i need to leave rop.
I also realize, that a frostbolt cast time is longer than a chaos bolt cast time on my warlock. And i have a lot of haste on my gear.

So i decide to go back on my warlock instead, and leave my mage, wich only give me miserable experience anywhere i go.

I played destruction warlock this week ( tyranncal ) and i noticed one little annoyance in rotation flow : VERY RARELY u run out of incinerate buff. U can have 4 buff on it total. If u run out, u can only cast unempowered incinerates a couple of times. Happened to me twice during the week and i did a lot of runs. It s no big deal or a huge dps loss, just minor annoyance. And even that little annoyance ll be fixed in 10.7 when they increase max stack of buffs to 6.

And i have a feeling now, that warlock is looked at, and someoen take care of it.
I dont have the same feeling as a mage.

But maybe im just bad with mage, and i really dont know if its abandoned, or its " good as it is " , it s just not for me anymore. ^^

sometimes i miss MoPā€™s ā€˜invocationā€™ talent for those who remember

it used to be on the same row with rune of power,incanterā€™s ward

rune of power was the arcane choice while frost/fire were a little more versatile in that area

in WoD when Blizzard decided to butcher mage they removed evocation from frost and made it arcane only
that talent was gone
back then they had the stupid idea that every spec should only cast spells from the same school.
cone of cold became frost only, evocation arcane only etcā€¦

however this is no longer the case
BRING BACK INVOCATION and make evocation baseline

or just bring back MOP class designers for godā€™s sake !

Imagine a paly thinking they know anything about mages.

fire is only good in high keys where mobs dont die fast, with good players. Fireball and pyro hit like wet noodles without combust and fireblast stacks on a rune of power

Hey 10.1 class tuning has been released and there is absolutely NADA in it for PvE mages.

Iā€™m out folks, not paying for them to neglect the class Iā€™ve been playing for almost 20 years.

Mage
Counter Spell interrupt duration decreased to 5 seconds (was 6 seconds).

MAGE
Netherwind Armor (PvP Talent) has been removed.
Prismatic Cloak (PvP Talent) has been removed.

Arcane
Arcane Missiles damage increased by 5% in PvP combat.
Kleptomania (PvP Talent) has been redesigned ā€“ Unleash a flurry of disruptive magic onto your target, stealing a beneficial magic effect every .5 seconds for 4 seconds. Castable while moving, but movement speed is reduced by 40% while channeling.
Mass Invisibility (PvP Talent) now has a 10 second duration, breaks if any actions are taken, and replaces Invisibility when learned.
Arcane Empowerment (PvP Talent) has been removed.

Fire
World of Flames (PvP Talent) has been redesigned ā€“ Empower Flamestrike, dealing up to 200% more damage based on enemiesā€™ distance to the center of Flamestrike.
Glass Cannon (PvP Talent) now increases damage of Fireball and Scorch by 100% (was 40%) and now also increases the damage of Mastery: Ignite. Additionally, the maximum health reduction is now 20% (was 15%).

Frost
New PvP Talent: Icy Feet ā€“ When your Frost Nova or Water Elementalā€™s Freeze is dispelled or removed, become immune to snares for 3 seconds. This effect can only occur once every 10 seconds.
Chilled to the Bone (PvP Talent) has been removed.

USER INTERFACE AND ACCESSIBILITY
Talent Loadouts can now be linked to chat through the Share menu.
Updated special resource art and animations for the following classes:
Arcane Mage

Mage
Polymorph duration decreased to 6 seconds in PvP combat (was 8 seconds).
Mass Polymorph duration decreased to 6 seconds in PvP combat (was 8 seconds).
Ring of Frost duration decreased to 6 seconds in PvP combat (was 8 seconds).

This is freaking hilarious, they only real changes to mage in that tuning are for pvp.

Last time I checked most of us play for pve and pvp is a joke when every other class can easily kill us.
