I find the cost of heirloom upgrades ludicrous

I know, but having at least something in the main slots that tries to keep up is still better then trying to run at level 72 with ilvl 230 gear cause you didn’t get a single upgrade.

I still like them during leveling, but I usually have phases where I’ll just mine or herb and dig for archaeology. I love that I can do that without having to worry about gear. That said, they are in a bit of a sad state for the gold it takes to upgrade them.

yeah, leveling in an old zone you know quite well can be fun and you ding so fast that just having the looms there and not having to replace gear every 5 minutes is good. Also you can mog them and not have to keep refreshing your mog (mostly) all the time. Of course there’s no boots or gloves so it’s not ideal but having the main slots mogs is enough for me while levelling.

I agree heirloom upgrades are way too expensive, they should have been cut by 90% when they removed the xp bonus. Heirlooms are unnessecary but nice to have, they are certainly not worth their current pricetag.

For the small amount of time we spend leveling these days, heirloom gear should just go up to max level of the most recent expansion, so 70 right now. The system is so out dated, we aren’t in 2009 where you’d get an item and choose to keep it for 20 levels as it was so OP. You don’t get gear fast enough these days so you end up at lvl70 with an ilvl of like 200 or something.

I 1000 % agree that the cost to upgrade is stupid.
It’s meant to be a help, not a burden…

I agree - it’s too expensive.
Being a bit of a completionist and alt-o-holic, I dished out hundred of thousands gold to upgrade a set of each armor class to max.

Then, predictably, they completely nerfed the heirlooms… and some time, they will get buffed again, and then nerfed again, and then… argh! Just make up your minds, pretty please!

Please make it so we won’t have to upgrade them so much all the time, and please make them decent, but not overpowered - and then let them STAY that way! Don’t make them better than dungeon gear or worse than quest gear yet again, just make them stay decent.
-And not with set bonuses so good that we can’t live without them once we grow out of them.

THis is actually the biggest use for them currently , “style equip”.

For ex. You like the current Priest tier set, but want it on your mage?? Pop a few looms on your priest, mog for free because looms have no vendor price (= no mog cost), send them to your mage and wear the priest set when you´re not doing actual content

I’m levelling a new Earthen char and with 20% WoW Anniversary buff and the new speedy levelling in DF, I’m levelling up much faster than I’m getting gear from quests and WQs. If it wasn’t for heirlooms my ilvl would be half what it is.

I did that before they changed all the bonus XP and after the nerf and all my hard earnt gold gone i swore never to upgrade them with gold ever again.

Heirlooms were a “sort of solution” the developers invented when we players were complaining about levelling new characters taking way too long. When levelling was redesigned to be hyperfast (in comparison to what it used to be), they lost most of their purpose, with the only remaining one being that they scale at one’s level, but even that is somewhat broken with the different scalings taking place.

I cannot think of how to repurpose them so that they remain “BiS” while levelling new characters and also making them worth their buck without affecting other parts of the game:

  • Should they allow more gold / drops from enemies depending on number of heirlooms equipped and still scaling?
  • Should each level-up provide a satchel of end-game materials with the amount of materials and their quality increasing based on the number of heirlooms equipped and still scaling?
  • Should each level-up provide a satchel of end-game currencies with the amount increasing based on the number of heirlooms equipped and still scaling?
  • Should each level-up provide Timewarped Badges and other old-content currencies, again with the amount based on number of equipped heirlooms still scaling?

What else can we think of that would make us want to spend so many thousands of gold on them other than have that investment pay off through their use?

True! However, it really is useful mogging your items once while levelling, instead of every single time when u get an upgrade.

Yes perhaps, I never focused on alts before Legion and it took me a year to upgrade all armorclasses to at least lvl 45. Then I took a break and had to level them up two times again in dragonflight and it took another year almost. I don’t have a great answer on how much they should cost though becuase with MoP Remix I never need another alt…

With the current leveling speed they are still better to use than normal quest drops, as those keep their level while heirlooms become better than them the moment you gain a level.

There is also the case that with this leveling speed it is not uncommon to have gear pieces that are a solid character level behind everything else.

Their current price is too high, I agree, but if they do change it I would also prefer if the missing gear slots get their respective heirloom pieces as well.

There are times during leveling where the heirloom might be 18-24 ilvl and the items from quests have an ilvl of 60.

The set bonus is not even good enough to compensate. You can level to max level fairly quick now so the rested bonus is useless.

You would have to make a character and park it at the innkeeper and then pick it up again after a few days to even benefit from the set bonus.

And the level up burst is taken directly from D3 and nothing good comes from that game.

I spent around 3.2m to upgrade everything i had, was it worth it no, but it does feel good when everything is capped. Now with the TWW gotta pay more (once they update it)

Does this work?
I’d be surprised if it did. Didn’t use to. I remember when looms were actual items that you could mail between your alts (my DK had some plate looms back in Wrath) but these would lose their mogs if mailed.
Maybe they can be mogged and put in the Warband Bank?

I admittedly can´t say for sure because I haven´t actually done it myself, but using teh wb bank appears to be the way from what I´ve gathered… and it´s cheaper, anyway…

You can level an alt in 3h. Why would lowering that by 20 minutes be anything worth even 1g ?

That is my thought.

Interesting.
DK in full Judgement set might be cool. Though I always thought a battered tarnished version of that would make a good DK set.
