I found an old guild concept

So I was looking through an old Google drive and found a Guild Concept I wanted to make before I took an extended break to deal with my issues.

It not a concept I feel I can pull off these days so I feel like giving it away.

Let me copy paste and edit it for anyone to take a look at. Just know it might need major editing for up to date lore as it’s still set for before the DF time skip.

I imagine with the Scourge threat becoming less and less the various factions of Scourge become more dangerous to deal with, even in the recluse of far flung regions.

Sentinels of Mereldar concept:

An elite unit of Argent Crusaders chosen or invited by Argent High Command with the mandate, equipment and training to take on in the field what most could not. A unit dedicated to fighting in harsh conditions and environments and against different kinds of enemies the world faces.

A heavy religious ideal is exemplified through both devout faith in the Light, the teaching of the Church of the Holy Light as well as the historical knowledge of varying religious orders and beliefs from across Azeroth. There is no requirement to be able to wield the Light but having faith is mandatory.

The unit fights in formation with halberds, swords and shields with closed rank tactic training designed to box in or push back dangerous foes from a battlefield to create space for regular Argent Units to move in and get the job done.

Regular martial training is given and once a week Unit prayers with communal confessions are given in a closed environment away from other units/regiments. This is to show there are no secrets from each other and to build a close bond between each within the unit.

Due to the immense strength requirements to lift the heavy plated armor and weapons given to each Sentinel only Humans, Orcs, Tauren, Worgen, Draenei (Non Lightforged), Shal’dorei, Dwarves, Kaldorei, Trolls and Sin’Dorei/Quel’dorei are recruited. This means only Warriors and Paladins are allowed. There is a strict uniformed appearance in armor. Off duty there are no requirements albeit during deployment no alcohol or substances that may affect their ability are allowed unless the Commander says otherwise.

As well as taking dangerous missions in to dark places each Sentinel of Mereldar may also serve in ceremonial displays on behalf of the Argent Crusade. Strong, stoic and focused whilst on display. The unit can travel across the world at invitation to seek out understanding of various orders such as Sunwalkers to Zandalari Prelates or Sin’dorei Blood Knights as well as their own background. Whilst travelling often to far flung reaches of the world they will headquarter in any Argent controlled region for unspecified amounts of time.

All within the unit are expected to put aside political affiliations outside of that to the Argent Crusade.

Justification for the creation of the unit:

With the events of Icecrown coming to a crescendo with the sky shattering opening the veil to the realms of death beyond, the Scourge running rampant across the world, the horrors of old gods still loose and active after N’zoth’s defeat as well as the lingering threat of Sylvanas Loyalists driven ever further in to obscurity and desperation there are some horrors that cannot be faced by adventurers and roaming bands of people together.

The Argent High Command gave the go ahead for a formation of an elite unit that can deal with these threats wherever they go in any environment. Some have (wrongly) compared the Sentinels of Mereldar to the Brotherhood of the Light. Others also compare the Sentinels of Mereldar to Silver Hand Highguard.

Unit types:

1 x Confessor
1 x Hospitaller
9 x Sentinel Crusader
1 x Commander

The Confessor;

A Priestess of particular zeal who inspires and uplifts those in the unit. She can be heard chanting aloud during combat behind the line with litanies of strength, of battle and unity. She extols the three virtues of her faith. She is there to listen to the others of the unit in private moments if they need care for their spiritual needs.

The Hospitaller;

A Holy Paladin known for treating those in need from an enemy to a friendly member of the unit. The Hospitaller stands behind the line and calls upon the Light to heal the other Sentinels and infuse them with the Light’s might and other blessings. A Hospitaller is often gifted with the knowledge written in Sir Gavinrad the Dire’s personal Libram.

The Sentinel Crusader;

The Bulwark of the unit whether they are able to wield the Light or not they stand together always, heavily armored and well trained. Experts in closed rank fighting they do not falter in battle and follow the orders of their commander without hesitation. If one falls, the rest close ranks and continue forwards.

The Commander;

The unit requires the oversight of the Commander given reprieve to command the unit in a way they see fit to deal with a situation. They answer directly to High Command and are often decorated with scripture and will carry a mace or sword into battle. The Commander is always a Paladin of some age and experience and is able to fill in all roles as and when needed.

So there you have it.

If you’re interested in the idea you are free to use it. Argent RP these days seems dead sadly.

Why the limit put on Forsaken, gnomes, goblins and pandaren? They aren’t really any physically weaker than humans or elves.

True, the thought never crossed my mind however thinking about it with the Light potentially being wielded offensively I don’t think it would be safe for undead within the unit.

I think it can somewhat depend on the intensity of the Light. I’ve been trying to find a blue post that I remember quite vividly but I’ve not been able to find it - maybe somebody else knows which one I’m on about - but in that post they outline that a forsaken can channel the light through themselves but it has some pretty nasty effects for doing so, such as regaining feelings that had since been deadened and being able to experience their own rotting flesh and all the horridness that entails.

One thing that I wish did happen with Argent roleplay is seeing more of SL’s prepatch throughout that expansion. Starting off with a big scourge invasion in the heart of Northrend is a fantastic springboard for a holy order to start RPing from but it never actually went anywhere beyond that one quest in the Bastion campaign which was a flashback(?).

Either way - I do like Argent roleplay and while I’m not much for leading a guild myself, it’d be nice to see some more Argent Dawn guilds on… uh, Argent Dawn.

Yeah that’s precisely why undead Argents walking over consecrated ground on a battlefield isn’t going to go well.

I’m not saying it’s not possible I’m saying it’s going to be painful, distractingly so. Anyway it’s a guild idea I am giving away. People can take it and modify it as they wish

They haven’t had any issues with this so far and a majority of the Argent Dawn / Crusade’s generic undead NPCs have always been light-wielders.

That is what happens when an undead wields the Light, yes. When the Light is used on them it feels like a burning sensation, wounds being healed by the Light on undead has a cauterisation effect.

It was a flashback to the “fall” of Lakeshire, which ultimately proved to have little to no affect on Lakeshire itself.

They have done this pretty consistently without overt issues.

Okay I stand corrected.

Alonsus did set himself on fire with it that one time. Pretty hardcore of him all things considered.
