I had hope for Dragonflight... now I don't

Yes I was on that hopium for a while. But I’m not anymore. (rant incoming)

The absolute mess the game is in with this pre-patch is clearly just a sign of things to come.

The UI is a good idea on paper, but its been designed by people who don’t play the game. Large parts of it are not functioning. It doesn’t interact with itself. Previous features have disappeared. The simple size of everything takes up the entire screen, yet all the text is tiny. It was sold as fully customizable, it’s not. It just about breaks every single addon in the game at the moment. It’s not intuitive. There are so many simple quality of life issues with it, it’s clearly not been tested properly or thought through. I’ve seen plenty of threads about it, and doesn’t appear to be getting any response from blizzard/hotfixes.

The cash grabs are a joke. Dropping a 12month sub for an extreme amount of money right before Christmas, right before an expac and during a global economic crisis is just unethical and shows the core values of the business. No I don’t have to purchase it, but yes I feel like I’ve missed out. You can’t even buy it with in-game gold via blizzard balance.

The in-game systems always break. Last week the AH just didn’t work for 2 days for no apparently reason. It was a repeat of a previous issue with commodities, and it took 2 days to get looked at. I don’t get why these things keep happening. I’ve also seen there was a bug with evokers where they got 100% drop rate on 2 of the most sought after and farmed (abysmal drop rate) mounts - sha + nalak. it’s been hotfixed, but no apparent action to those who exploited blizzards incompetence. This morning i logged in and it took me 40mins to loot anything from my mailbox due to various bugs/errors. in the end i had to just disable everything and go in cold and loot 1 by 1. I thought the UI issues where with phase1, but apparently I need to completely revisit these every couple of weeks when you decide to stagger content from your half baked job.

Ticket times. There’s abysmal wait time on tickets and just feels like there’s no point in opening one at this point. I’ve seen stories on this forum about people waiting 4 weeks just for the ticket to be closed with no response.

I also logged on this morning to see gold returns from mission tables/callings have been nerfed to a pitiful amount (even from missions that were already in place). I get the need to tackle inflation, but there is now no incentive to farm those necroray eggs (another feature that has been a complete joke - 3 mounts that are on an abysmal drop rate from a WQ daily. after 200+ callings this expac, i’ve not seen one.)

Dropping extinct TCG loot for a marketing campaign is so inconsiderate to the player base. I am a mount collector in game. It’s largely driven what I like to do when I play. However, I do not have the feldrake and i understand its prestige for those who have it (and i would likely pay the gold price should one become available to me reasonably) but giving it away for free (amongst other things) is a slap in the face to alot of people on the game.

Dragonflight was make or break for me. I’ve played the game for 15+years now consistently through the pain of what has been the last few expacs. Most of my friends don’t play anymore. The game is virtually dead in the most part. I thought Dragonflight would save it. But i don’t think it will anymore.

Blizzard, you are on the precipice of destroying your game. Plz stop and just do a proper job of it!

Its literally just a video game. Its not your life. Play it when you feel like it, take a break when you dont .

Those rare pixels are not worth worrying about. They are worthless. Just have fun in the game.

Enjoying video games is allowed. I’ve enjoyed WoW for a long time, played with irl friends, met some good virtual friends.

I’m allowed to be upset that the product is being ruined by incompetence and cash grabs.

Personally I think the new UI is flawless and you can change HUD size scaling in the graphic settings.

Can’t comment on the gameplay before it comes it out. Can only comment on what’s available. (aka the prepatch). There are obvious balancing/gameplay issues to go with this, but that is because (i expect) the game to be tuned for level70, not 60.

There was a lot of promise with the direction the expac seemed to be going in. They started listening to communities. They were removing alot of the chores. Already moved in that direction since patch 9.1.5.

But one of the main problems with blizzard in recent years is they half baked everything. And this seems to be still the case with pre-patch, so i now expect the whole expansion to be like that (and hence why I have lost my hope).

Ye, they’re not. It’s more like that you need a break from the game, or quit and move on with your life. It’s just a videogame.

There are plenty of posts about issues with the UI - but to name a few:

  1. Crafting is so clunky. Can’t craft whilst AH is open. “craft all” doesn’t work half the time. Minimised categories reopen when you craft anything.
  2. Can’t move everything. For example, enemy cast bar, bags/menu bars.
  3. The raid/party frames dont work with the Raid/Party tools bar (i.e. the bar that appears for using marks/markers etc.) Whilst in a party, the tools bar doesn’t even appear. Groups in a Raid just take up the whole screen and you are very limited in how you can arrange them (less than before)
  4. So many UI overlays (like power bars/extra action buttons etc.) are fixed on the screen and appear underneith the standard UIs.
  5. Talent UI is huge. You should be able to set presets for class and spec talents independently of each other. The are various dif class i want to use for various situations, and same for various spec builds - but because i can’t set independently i need alot of presets for each combination.

all these feel like such minor points, but collectively it just tarnishes the experience. For a game that is 18 years live, it’s like it’s learnt nothing from the previous builds and feels like blizzard are just naive in their designs.

Appreciate this is a rant but just some thoughts as I was reading it.

Blizzard did do a lot of testing and have quashed a lot of bugs before it even came live. Pre-patch is always going to be a bit of ‘test realm meets reality’ and there will be bugs - but they do a good job of fixing a lot of things in a timely manner.
I realise for some people it is not fast enough, but other MMOs have bugs that have persisted for 10+ years and never fixed. Blizzard does fix a lot of things, even really tiny bugs.

The UI change is a necessary evil. The old one was 18 years old and was showing its age. This new one is customisable… YES not everything is customisable, but maybe this is a good foundation they can build on. Yes it is annoying when custom addons stop working, and with a huge UI change this is going to be a bigger issue - but addon authors do a good job of updating their addons, and all of the main ones such as Bartender, Weak Auras, DBM, are all working for me with minimal errors.

Not a huge fan of the 12 month subscription plan myself, but at least it only comes with a few cosmetic things, and no one is ever that impressed by someone riding a paid-for mount anyway.

AH issues are also because Blizzard has put in massive amounts of work making the AH region-wide, to help everyone have access to cheap commodities, and especially low pop servers. I haven’t experienced any outages myself except right when it first launched, but you need to give them a bit of slack. Overall it is a massive improvement.

Sha+Nalak is just one of those rare things that always happens with an 18 year old game. Blizzard hasn’t said if they will remove the mounts or not yet, but hopefully they will address this in some way.

What tickets are you raising? Genuine question, I don’t think I’ve ever needed to raise more than half a dozen tickets in my 18 years of playing - and all the common ones are automated by their systems.

Gold returns are annoying, I posted about this myself and they should change them to anima rewards.

TCG was a mistake and one Blizz hasn’t repeated for a long time. Honestly the feldrake is super ugly anyway. TCG items were earned through external means, so adding more external rewards it makes sense to go back to the pool of rewards previously used.

Honestly I don’t see how any of these complaints are anything to do with anything Dragonflight will be bringing.

It is pixels nothing more than that.

The new UI has broken elements. The worst broken element is the missing raid setting frame from a party group. How will a tank put a ground marker in a Mythic plus now?

For clarity, the complaints are more that this is an apparent sign of things to come. Blizzard still up to their old tricks of cutting corners - which is the ultimate reason why i’ve lost hope for the expansion and the game has steadily been declining for a number of years.

Yes, I will wait for it to come out and try it. But it’s personally disheartening as I don’t think I’m going to enjoy it if these sorts of things continue.

Might be easier to explain as a metaphor; imagine buying a car, but it keeps falling out of gear, heater blows cold instead of hot randomly, doors fly open on occasion, has a dodgy clutch that keeps stalling the engine, satnav takes you to random places instead of where you input. It still gets you around, but it’s working against you in the process.

Quiet frankly I love the lore and the fantasy of Warcraft and that’s what kept me involved for so long, but they don’t have a monopoly on the market anymore so there are alternatives - and it’s just sad to leave this place behind (hence the rant)

Very well put.
If a game dont bring you joy take a break. Try something new/different. I switch between Wow, ESO, GW2, Everquest 1 +2 and LOTRO.
Sometimes i play them at the same time, sometimes just one and sometimes none.
Games should be fun and relaxing. I even enjoy playing very different games like house flipper.
It’s about finding a balance which makes you feel good

OP is suffering from burn out.

Iv only had 3 months in wow but for me the UI is fine since I have it set up as close to as it was, apart from the class icons being rather small in dung/BG etc but not a big deal since I play DPS anyway.

Add-ons will always break due to patches/updates to the base game that’s just natural.

12month sub, not a bad idea if you know your going to play for 12 months even if it only saves you around 10€/£/$ compared to paying monthly. Extra mounts cosmetics for buying 6/12month is just a deal sweetener nothing more.

As this is my first pre-patch I have found it easier to adjust my characters slowly rather than boom new expac/patch and having to quickly adjust to things and not miss out on newer content.

As for bugs yeah it sucks people gaining extra stuff via a bug like the OP said but honestly so what someone gets 100% drop on a mount that then got hot fixed. Hell I was sleeping so didn’t care. No game is without bugs that’s video games for you.

The only thing I do agree with is ticket times, currently have an issue with a quest that I can not hand in sent a ticket 2 weeks ago and it’s now got a 40+ day wait time even after a typical auto reply that I had after the first 10 days. The quest isn’t important but I personally want to do as many quests and catch up on lore etc so it’s a bit of a deal for me but nothing that’s going to stop me enjoying the game.
