I have no idea what class to play

Typical RPG problem for me. I play one class for a while and then switch. I never get far with my characters during the expansion.

Now I’ve decided that I am going to force myself to main one class so I can enjoy the end game content. But I don’t know what to choose and it is stressing me out to the point that I am thinking about not buying the expansion.

DPS is a comfortable role for me. Tanking is tempting, but It really is out of my comfort zone.

Is there a way to choose the right class?

Roll a dice, that’s how everything is done in wow.

I used to be an altaholic like you. Then I took an Arcane Mage to the knee.

Explore specialisations, you might just find something fanciful.

You have four covenants to explore though, you could keep four going

You will bring something hotly desired with a battle rez as a DK, something only shared with druids and warlocks.
While Engineers gets a new version of the Brez in SL, its still melee range and risks backfiring.

Druids are a popular class for their sheer versaility, choosing between rdps, mdps, healing and tanking.

Warlock: You do good damage as destro, and affliction is looking good in sl. Only demo is lagging behind.

My suggestion, druid or warlock. Ranged dps will always be prefered over melee, and theres going to be a glut of DKs in sl, due to them being the featured class with allied races allowed to become them. Not to forget that frost dks will be able to go 2h again.

Warlocks packs healthstones and the ever useful portal.

Its not RPG issue its current wow issue. Since leveling new toon become so easy and people literaly sit on 50+ chars it become much harder to pick class as there is no invesment or barely any player identity.

I call bs. In vanilla I had: Paladin, rogue, mage, priest, warlock and druid. All at 60.

I do disagree on the large. It is a RPG problem

Altaholics do exist regardless to difficulty. Some people just like making new characters.

I made many Alts in vanilla
I made many Alts now.

Some people have a love for that new character compared to old and others give into class envy too quickly. Altaholics have existed since forever.

Modern wow defiantly makes it easier to be a altaholic… but its a problem people have had in every mmorpg and every era realistically.

The difference between a altaholic of today and a altaholic of vanilla was most of them never got a char to 60 :rofl: doesn’t change the fact that they permanently were rerolling.

Player identity and more doesn’t grow on everyone

I mained paladin for many years, mostly ret sometimes holy. The one character i have most achievments on (Accountbound anyway now) mogs, skins, all inn all most completion.

Choose the one that appeals to you. You see yourself maining caster or meelee? Use the elimination tactic: “What would i NOT main?”

Consider the options you are left with.

  • Who has the best mogs?
  • Who has a tanking option and two dps spec in case one dps spec goes bad?
-What class fantasy appeals most to you?

Whatever you choose, prioritize it before playing any alts, gear it first, gather mogs you like, make it your most complete character and the choice will be easier in the future.

I wouldnt choose pala as a main now, but because of the history of the toon it will remain my main. In good and bad times

Yes. You’ve already defined a criteria. DPS but you would like the ability to tank.
That already narrows it down to 6 classes.
Druid, Monk, Warrior, Paladin, DH and DK.

You’re wanting a main so lets do the sensible thing and eliminate specs with less than 1 DPS role.
Monk, DH and Paladin? Bye bye.

You’re down to 3 classes (see how simple it actually is? )

Here is where you need to define further criteria. Some examples:

Do you just want to be melee or would ranged as an option be nice?
If ranged then Druid it is. If melee then we can eliminate Druid.

How important is mobility?
DK - Slowest
Warrior - Decent mobility
Druid - very mobile

Transmogs?
Class fantasy?
Self healing?

If you can’t figure out between your top 2 or 3 then flip a coin. Remember, you’re choosing a main not your one allowed class to play. It’s perfectly ok to play lots of characters, in fact I think people who play multiple classes are much better players than “one tricks”.

Ultimately focus on what the class allows you to do, do not focus on what X has over Y. The grass will always be greener, no class is perfect. You’ll also not consider a class your main until you stick with it through the lows and accept the cons.

PS Tanking in dungeons is fine and LFR you might get some slack but ignore it dude, everyone starts somewhere. Besides a new expansion is the perfect time to play a new role, nobody is comfortable.

Role Beast Master… then keybind /y Say Hello To My Little Friend!

The way to break a altaholic habit varies…

Some have to go to the extremes of deleting all their characters except one to force them to stick at it.

Others simply have to just force themselves to only play 1 char for a while before the habit fades.

Just simply work down the list

Do u want to be a ranged or melee class
Do you want to have multiple roles available.
What is your favourite aesthetic.
What classes offer the most choices for you (which classes do u enjoy the most speccs with)

Just slowly whittle down the options which won’t fit your needs and you will eventually drop down to fewer and fewer ideal classes.

Once your down to 2 either choose one, flip a coin, or maybe just make one Ur main and the other your only alt.

Then it’s basically a lead of teaching yourself to do everything on your selected main before doing stuff with the alt.

I’m ironically going to attempt the same challenge this expansion upcoming  although I may end up with 4 of the class i am choosing so I don’t run into convenant problems

Nah even with 50 chars it’s always this!!!
