yeah its really funny. the headless horseman mount took me up to 30 tries, yet with other mounts im so unlucky. 
Dunno. The first couple of years I only had 1 max level, however that was back when the mount was an actual drop and each group did 5 runs per day. So it was around 70 runs each year for a few years.
Then through MoP and WoD I had so many alts that i was doing around 100-200 runs per year. Then I slowly gave up over Legion and BfA, going down to about 3 alts, so 3 runs per year.
This year I ran it on 4 alts eligible for the mount, and finally got it. I’d say I’ve killed the headless horseman around 1k times, give or take.
The game can tell when you want something. Took me years to get the headless horseman and the fiery warhorse for kara, Ony took a long time too.
But when I actually don’t care about the mount at all, I get it quickly. 3 Kael kills for Al’ar, 5 solo UP runs for the blue proto drake. I got Rivendare’s Deathcharger whilst trying to farm the valor legs… Never got those legs though. Sword and mount but no legs, feels bad.
tbh i have given up on ony and alar. its been years and nothing. i wouldnt even mind it if there was anything to farm for me but i ve gotten it all sort of. theres nothing of interest except the mount…which makes it even more of a pain to walk up there. 
deathcharger dropped for me on first try. i d gladly exchange it for another mount tho. ><
Hmm, 1000 tries, one drop. 0.1% drop rate, then, perhaps. Ouch. Its a beautiful mount, so is the death-charger so gratz on that too. I make do with the dark horse from the special edition, but I remain more of a dolphin than a whale.
