After 19 hours of camping and I saw one sniped from me and frankly I don’t know why I did this to myself… This is the exact opposite of fun and engaging gameplay… And the mount isn’t even that great, just another recolor. Why are we compelled to do stupid things like that. I don’t understand.
Edit: I got it on the second spawn I saw is what I meant above.
Tbh, after collecting plenty of mounts, I’ve come to the point where I have so many that when next achievement for mount collecting arrives, I’ll complete it on log in like I did this one that was added at 10.0.
These days I collect mounts only based on looks if I find it beautiful. Also if it’s easy to get or requires me to do something quick weekly.
I remember at WoD’s launch, mount rares had a crazy respawn rate. I really wanted that Poundfist Gronn mount. But it was also kinda fun at the times to camp with so many people.
Back in TLK a guildmate was camping the TLPD, he went for a shower, and when he came back, the corpse was sitting next to him

After a while I had lost time fallacy all over me and I just had to continue.
Get bronze scales for the renewed proto drake. It looks much better. Hopefully usable outside the dragon isles soon.
Got the time-lost proto drake way back in the day, don’t think I’ve used it even once in the past 10 years or so.
Congratulations!! The title says you got it but the body of text seemed to imply you didn’t. So I’m not sure now.
I have not done any of the previous long camp mounts. It would be nice to have them but I just don’t find it a fun activity to just afk for like 24 hours waiting. I’m no natural hunter, clearly.
I did get poundfist, I never camped it myself, it was up in the zone when I was there, a group was all just one tagging it and not fighting to let as many people get there and hit it as possible. I was Alliance at the time because I disliked the Horde Garrison. Eventually a group of Horde came along and we couldn’t communicate with them so they nuked it. A huge number of people did get tag though before it died. Was one of those great community moments.
TLPD is one of those farms that becomes hellish due to CRZ.

Mount cost like 400k and you don’t even need to do anything just wait till person whisper you 
Why would anyone do that kind of FARM
if it was grind this mob for 50 hourss straight i’m ok with it cause you are engage in killing stuff around you with your character
but if the farm means you are flying around some path to see rare
that’s bad
i rather spend 400k so someone else will do it instead of me

A lesser adventurer might have given up after that unfortunate snipe, and I’m glad to hear you hung in there and got rewarded for it in the end!
As for why, I’m afraid I couldn’t answer that for you, but let’s just say you’re not the first to be drawn into this tug of war between time lost and rare mount gained and I suspect you won’t be the last either.
I see people trying to sell the location in trade
I got mine years ago by making an alt on one of the Italian realms. There’s only 2 servers and back then there was no CRZ with other languages. Got the camel, TLPD, Aeonaxx, rare pets, all the achievements for killing rares and so on and used to help friends get all the rare hunter pets. No camping, just hopped on, flew by and checked once in a while.
No idea if that’s still the same, I gave up on collecting after so many mounts/pets became time exclusive or promotional and they stopped adding milestone achievements, but considering chromie time and such and the fact people are selling rare spawns, I would imagine there are a few tricks to bypass CRZ.
the time lost proto drake has a route it flys when it spawns and it can spawn anywhere along that route , i once found it while i was mining ore , it was head first stuck in a snow drift over towards the far side away from daleran , easy tame , back in wrath i had it on two chars , mounts now go to all your chars .
