The Meta is… YOU… yes Yourself! YOU Is always meta even for WoW.
Lets say for example if you good at mage in pve then your meta is mage. same goes for rogues or any class in general providing the tools you got for your class other then pumping dps like a jerk. you see what I mean?
Too add that, you need to have a connection to your character, love for your character to do this. I done that to this one and it worked.
lets just say some classes are more meta than others though, depending on their spec of course.
just FYI i see you brought up mages… well… while mages are weak against warlocks, druids and priests, they absolutely dominate any and all melee classes except a pvp specced rogue. i mean… 4 frost novas with cold snap, 2 of those at range… and ice lance, and the fact they can sheep and blink out the second you get close enough… or iceblock even…
i guess my bias is showing, but lets just say that if you’re not a rogue or a druid, facing a frost mage might as well equal a death sentence.
despite the difference in players experience / skills? or their character gear?
if we did run this game with AI instead of humans? the bots will come to a point in the current system where they’d find out that some classes are superior to others in multi situation and so? they’ll all use hunters. that what would be called meta.
maybe pick which class you grown with and experiment to improve.
Or beep boop meta
Well… Not just class tools but certain items used as get out of jail free card and work around the weaknesses. every class has limits even warlocks and hunters too.
classic-tbc phase1 grull world wide top dps classes wise.
among the top 1000 dps? 870 are hunters! around 100warlocks, if you think that hunter is not “meta class”? then you don’t even know what does meta mean. https://classic.warcraftlogs.com/zone/rankings/1008#metric=dps&partition=1&class=DPS&boss=650
tbf if we are talking about PVE Fury warriors have huge potential as the current leaderboards clearly show.
when TBC launched everyone and their mom was like “OMG WARRIOR MEME CLASS, JUST GO WARLOCK OR HUNTER LMAO” and well… tbh… most hunters and warlocks are very average, only being carried by their class ‘balance’ whereas many “meme” classes are taking the spotlight.
You are right. But i think less than 1% of wow players even know what you are talking about.
I rememeber the occasion when someone suggested we all reroll horde and i would get a female cow so we could have an optimal setup. The basis for this proposal were racials, of course, and for me - the FC- in particular the fact that a female cow could exploit all the glitches in WSg whereas my male Nelf would get stuxk in like 2 out of 20.
Needless to say, i stuck with my suboptimal nightelf druid.
Mainly because i am a night elf druid in RL, which makes a lot of things easier
They (Fury Warriors) have a huge advantage on King, which is cheesed by most top guilds (where King is nuked before the rest, as the logs stop when he is killed).
Often one Fury Warrior will pop everything he has, including Reck, on a King that has Imp FF, EA, EW up etc, while being in a optimized group, that lasts for about 10-20 sec. He pops it all and does cleave/AoE on the adds, and the logs include spill DPS on them and are therefore cheesed.
Same thing for the Gruul one. Its 1 guy having a whole raid optimized for him only, which means any other Warrior in that raid wouldnt get near that DPS. Barely a “Warrior is great” Meta, when it cant be stacked, and the overall raid damage is lower than in other comps.
Players who gather information before creating their character so they can create the most meta character seem very insecure to me. The fear of not finding players to play with if you aren’t meta. Maybe they already know they have nothing else to offer as a player, just their class. On the other hand their competition is also heavier because there are so many players who play the same class. In the end there will be insecure meta sheep players left over who can’t find a group anyway because guilds already have 10 hunters that also know how to play the game.
wow is an RPG and people who want to play an RPG competitively are pretty weird. Why aren’t they playing a real competitive game? Why do they need to make a sport out of everything? competitive wow is like competitive vaping or hotdog eating… not really necessary or cool.
WoW is an MMORPG, you forgot the important part. You are playing with other people. Seeing your friend do twice your damage while having more utility and what else doesn’t feel very fun for most people.
I really don’t understand how anyone can play an RPG without caring about how strong your character is.
I mean sure you are free to enjoy the game by RPing mentally challenged rogue and playing without talent points, but that is just not for most people.
Truly determining how strong your character is compared to others is way too complicated for most players. So complicated that most often it’s done incorrectly.
Players who compare their dps like their wiener size have nothing to do with competitive play. That’s just casual fun and that’s what a lot of players enjoy. Seeing big numbers = fun.
But it’s just one single way of measuring “strength” in specific scenario: DPS during a raidboss encounter. Sure people think that’s being competitive, caring about performance and stuff but it really ins’t. Just because someone thinks he wants to be the best and takes everything super serious does not make this person a competitive player. This person just has a competitive mindset but is somewhat too retarded to really be competitive player.
Competitive play is when you participate in a competition.
Who has the highest dps in your raid is a form of competition but as i said, that’s a weird competition, like vaping or hotdog eating because nobody really cares about such competitions.
Some people in my raid have top parses but would never beat me in a duel. Does that mean i am stronger? What if someone else can make more gold/hour than me? Does that mean this person is stronger? What if i have more fans and rp’ers who come up to me in Shattrath trying to interact with me?
So caring about how strong your character is has nothing to do with competitive play. It’s almost the name of the game because our characters get stronger and stronger since level 1 and it does not stop of 70. Getting stronger is an RPG element. Still wow isn’t really a great game for competitive play in my opinion.
I mean sure you are free to enjoy the game by being a raid logging fail rp’er who just cares about the dmg meter / parses in a raid but that’s just not for most people.
You got it! Seeing your friend doing big numbers why your character does nothing is the problem here, but you somehow missed it.
Most likely means they should’ve done their research better if they were into dueling
The mistake you are doing is that you think ANYONE thinks WoW (pve at least) is competitive. That’s actually part of the problem tbh, your skill doesn’t matter because doing damage is so easy, so it all comes to class balance, so that’s why people who want to play class that performs better do the research.
Class balance in TBC is horrible, so you are being dick if you tell people to play “whatever they enjoy” when they enjoy playing something that performs well.
Here is an example. Personally I enjoy playing SP in raids because of the utility it brings , but would I EVER recommend it to anyone who cares about doing big damage? Of course not, because I am not dick.
