I might have been completely wrong about Legion remix

If Blizzard would like to gift me a standard edition of Midnight for this review, I will allow it

I was really UNEXCITED about Legion remix. Like 2/10 interested & only somewhat due to cosmetics/mounts and the fact that I have fond memories of Legion (besides Suramar - I hated you), which ended up being the deciding factor for me giving it a chance.

Positives

  • Tight questing - maybe it’s just the zone I’m in so far (Stormheim),but I like 3-5 quests in a single area, do them all at once, maybe side-quests conveniently near-by and then I move on. I hate traveling from place to place & overall questing has been tight
  • Central hub - As much as big cities can be immersive/thematic, I like how everything here is concentrated to one little tiny rock. All the vendors, everything you need, can’t get lost if you wanted to - easy
  • Tons of cosmetics - These of some of the finest mounts I have seen in my long life in WoW & there’s loads of them. I think there’s a lot of variety here overall
  • Rewards your time - I expected this to be an insane grind, which turned me off to even trying remix, but after about a solid days worth of playing, I’ve got like 4-5 really nice mounts. You can’t beat that in retail, or even come close.
  • Superior leveling experience - I started a High Mountain - Monk, bc why not? I would prob never do that on retail, but you don’t even really think about the level here & at the same time you’re being rewarded with coins to buy cosmetics & no leveling through DF or time-walking. This is just a much better alternative
  • Hardcore/Heroic mode is fun - I questioned whether going from normal to heroic world content might spoil the fun here, but it actually improved the experience for me as a casual/solo player used to Delves. I’m used to being self-sufficient, so this mode fits like a glove for more challenging content that’s more rewarding in coin

Negatives

  • Excessive loot - I get that you can scrap all the gear, which makes the system work, but I feel like I’m playing Borderlands being inundated with constant upgrades and items that I don’t really care to look over, especially with the same exact profile, just higher level
  • Excessive items - I’m not someone who wants to click on something to increase this stat by X amount, or use this scroll for this/that, or have to click this to add something to my legendary weapon bc it added some kind of upgrade to this/that. IDk why everything has to be spread out into micro systems but maybe I’m just a guy who hates managing his inventory & reading every tooltip on every time
  • Makes me sad - It shows how much character & story development has gone to the wayside, from killing Alliance/Horde, feeling a sense of darkness in the world to where we are now where everything feels Disney and is manufactured into appropriated roles
  • Convoluted quests from the main hub - I’ve gotten a series of quests that I don’t really understand & have no interest to really read through, so I had to click through conversations in order to get what I needed to get done. Skip the chatter, just give the quest completion

Overall, as an OG solo/casual player I find remix doing a lot of things right and streamlines a lot of annoying processes. It shows real growth in the development of understanding - in particular casual players needs just trying to play without a huge time investment of learning all these mechanics, but still really rewarding for your time.

While my interest/feelings may not last, I think it has been worth picking up the mounts at the least for myself, even if I never played it again.

I was overwhelmed by the amount of loot, and that I gain relevant currency from the start.
I think it’s great but… Well, I wish the game was more like this; retail I mean. That it was brimming.
But like… I’m going to get the goblin coat, and I figure that’s some 70 hours of grind.
That’s a lot. But sure, cool, I get a fancy cloak. 70 hours of junk shuffling, gg + ez.
Not everyone will be able to get the garbage cloak, so I will be able to wear it proudly.
And yea, cool; it’s just that it doesn’t feel like Legion remix does in the game. That I got like literally 100s of choices on what I will do with coins I actually make fairly quickly, abundance.
Gotta play it. 100 days of Legion then. Or what it’ll be. Maybe I’ll be done also, having gotten all things I like.
