Honestly thats all i miss the deep freeze ability and the scariness it brought, when playing as or engaging a mage it could be used defensivly offensivley and to turn the tide and win a 2v1 encounter.
Why was this ever removed? I thoughf this really made the frost spec …well…frost eapeciay since it dealt damage to pve bossds too
Because we can’t have nice things and Blizz would rather have us healing our enemies with Polymorph instead of trying to kill them.
Perhaps in an attempt to re-balance CC across the classes, they opted to give them all to Rogues.
In truth though, I haven’t the foggiest idea why they removed it. Where we too OP with it? I only started to pvp during WoD and even when they added Deep Freeze back for Frost, I still felt like a glorified sheep-bot.
That was my favourite version of the spell, I remember it pulling utterly ridiculous numbers in Blackwing Descent at the start of Cataclysm. So much so that I had to wait for like 20 seconds into the fight to use it for fear of pulling aggro and getting myself smushed.
I dunno about not havig nice things mages have plenty of fun and unique spells in their kit, for every spec i just feel deep freeze what feels like its been replaced by ice nova the single target snare (i think) feels so boring, i understand frost is re enforced as a control and CC spec but i really do think deep freeze added a layer of flavour that really did alone allevate the play and outplay possibilities.
As for sheeps its the longest and quickest most realible chain CC in the game thats why it heals, otherwise it really would be OP, hex for example you can move so chaining ring of frost or a another CC from another class really is expenentially mlre difficult due line of sight possibilites etc.
Another thing is the likes of blind has a hefty cooldown and dimenishing returns from stuns of both their own and other classes when compaered to a spammable sheep on its own diminishing returns.
Its like taking scorch away from fire in my eyes like…hey your specs abilities somewhat all coincide and while do not rely on these abilities if gives good outplay and fun. So we deleted them! Also arcane we have taken away missiles! Woop!
Like wtf i dont undersrand the deep freeze removal i never thought it was op (i main hunter so no bias) it could be dispelled sheilded etc
During part of WoD, Frost actually had both Ice Nova and Deep Freeze. Ice Nova is a short duration (2secs) AoE root centered on the target, however it use to do so much more damage than it does now, it even had 2 charges at one point.
What about Fear? it doesn’t heal the target, nor does it dispel any DoTs and it only has a ‘chance’ to break on damage rather breaking on any and all damage.
But stuns are hard CCs, Rogues can either use them to keep someone out of the fight or to attack and kill someone whilst they can’t do anything in return. Sheep can’t be used on a kill target, and can only be used to keep someone out of the fight whilst resetting their hp to full. Stuns are far more versatile and powerful overall and Mages unfortunately have no stuns nor any hard CC at all.
Honestly im not up on fear chances in bfa but when i left they seemed OP to me never broke at all, as for rogues i used to play one so i know the cc chains and shanninagans once youve played one honestly its easy to counter most as very fee layer the mecahanics properly to really pack an impact.
Regardless though even mlre reason as to why i dont understand deep freeze beig removed why not just at the time in WoD of that was the reason for a doie shatter (im guessing?!) Just take the damage off of ice nova and leave it as its intended root
Fear nowadays breaks almost instantly from damage (i mean, the last time I tested it was breaking 90% of the times in the first tick of my dots). Which in practices makes it a much worse cc than polymorph precisely because it does not delete dots.
But what makes fear much worse than poly as a CC is the fact that a lot of classes have fear specific counters, while poly only has one (druids).
Hunters? the beast within.
Warriors? Berseker rage: 6 second immunity once every minute.
DK? Lichborne.
Shaman? Tremor totem.
Undead: Will of the forsaken.
Isn’t mage the only class without hard non-breaking CC?
we don’t have any stuns lmao.
Our roots insta break unless you use it on off-target but then they can be dispelled… not all roots are dispellable.
We only have slows but then most classes can counter slows in some way so why bother play frost. gotta play fire ;0
Fire is my favourte spec since cataclysm / end of wrath. It may sound trivial but for me frost is too boring with no deep freeze thats personal preference ofcourse!
Its like if they took dragons breath away from fire or hunters freezing trap i would just cry it again is personal prefence i just in this corcumstanc beleive deep freeze should come back.
While im at it i miss the old evocation too.
If they are worried about the deep > sheep > sap > ring of frost combo from days of old make rng stack from sheep and deep then the entire cc chain “scare” is gone and fundamentally non existent.
Because you should loose something of the following than as you got TWO OF THOSE:
Blink
Ice block
Frost Nova
Perma poly
80% slow perma.
So choose what you wanna get removed. Learn to play your class as a frost mage complaining in 8.1.5 in PvP performance is as stupid as it gets.
Than ALL OTHER classes should get ranged 5 seconds stun on 20 sec cd to balance the kit you have. Would you like that instead ?
Saying that you cant have anything nice while you got more CC more damage and survivability than Rogue, War, even Paladinz… is PURE L2P ISSUE.

As you can see i am actually a hunter whos toon here jas been around since TBC soooo i was just asking for a reason after id had a break of play due to a newborn
lmao. More survivability than a rgoue? in any 1v1 situation rogue pwns mages (rogue resets and heals in stealth while sapping mages trying to eat).
in arena rogues have evasion, cloak, vanish, self-heals, feint… rogues have slows as well. shadowstep.
