I need to talk about this

For a bit of context, I’ve been playing WoW since late Vanilla, and I’ve played in hardcore guilds, even leading one at some point. I’m not a professional player, but I’m definitely not a noob either.

Today, for the first time ever, I Alt+F4’d out of WoW, and I want to talk about it.

I decided to level up my 6th alt to 80 this expansion and chose my Evoker to play as a healer. I did about three random normal dungeons, and all went well. Then I entered a new one, where the tank decided to pull almost the entire dungeon to the first boss, and we eventually wiped. We resurrected ,but the same thing happened, and we wiped again.

Then, without any word, I got kicked.

The most outrageous part? I received a 30-minute deserter buff.

How the hell did someone think it was a good idea to penalize players for doing nothing wrong?

Is this like a cheap free game? I cant even complaint about the people that kicked me.

Outrageous…

I know nothing will happen of this post but I wanted to let it out.

Not something to rage quit over. Just take it as a learning and move on.

Yes, I know that what happened to you sucks, and Blizzard’s policy adds insult to that injury, but I have to think: how have you played for so long, and never seen this before?

It happens.

We regularly get threads on the forum about similar situations.

From what you say, I presume you are a good player, so it happens to you less often than the average player. I presume you play with friends and guildies more than most, so it happens to you less often than the average player.

But I am amazed it never happened to you before.

Chill for a while. Or fume for a while, then chill. There is nothing to be done about it.

It’s been discussed to death on the forums, and every alternative policy is worse. Ay, there’s the rub: there is no better option. I know it may be hard to believe that, especially now, but life isn’t fair, and life goes on.

I hope you feel better tomorrow, and put it behind you.

It sucks, situations like that are unfair. As others already said tho, any suggested improvements to this system over the years would open up other avenues of abuse and frustration. In the end some people are just not very kind and sometimes you’ll bump into them. Hope your next runs will be better!

In same group you have people with 520 end of DF gear and 380 leveling DF gear. That would be entire TBC(from lvl 1) worth of ilvl difference in a same group.

That would not be a problem if tanks are simply to glance at HP of their fellow party members to estimate what kind of gear people have.

It was not a response to you Cylaris but to Pertubator:-)
Pugs are the worst these days, and you can’t reason with most of them so just avoid them…sadly. For whatever reasons Blizzard has decided to ignore that kind of bad behaviour, that you’ve experienced.

Playing since vanilla and this is the first time you ever got kicked?

Surely you’re old enough to let such a minor thing slide and just move on.

Whilst I think you overreacted a bit, you are entitled to vent on the forums but then you open yourself up to all sorts of criticism and troll comments.

I’m not brilliant but I’m also not a noob, I used to be pretty hardcore but quit for about 10yrs and now I just chill. I’ve been kicked once since returning and whilst it annoyed me as I don’t think I done anything wrong, I just done something else until the timer ran out.

Maybe when you reflect on this, you’ll realise that it really doesn’t matter. Maybe the tank had his ego hurt and put the blame on you, maybe you couldn’t keep up with the heals and need to learn or get better gear, maybe the tank is an odd ball, maybe a DPS triggered the vote and it was a 50/50 (tank/healer) on who to blame and you lost…either way, it really doesn’t matter.

I got kicked several times in mid dungeon, and wondered why, but never felt the need to post it on forums :grimacing:

Tbh, healers should never get that debuff. ever. Even if they are bad (not saying you are)

We also get a ton of threads about “punishing leavers”… And I remind them always of OPs situation…

Yeah, but “punishing leavers” is about people bricking M+ keys. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a complaint about leavers in queued content.

Generally that happened when people were leaving over the ara-kara trinket or LFR people leaving causing others to get queued for later bosses unwillingly

OK, you’re right. We do have the leavers-after-boss-that-drops-the-shiny threads. I;ve even been in those groups. I sit corrected!

Because few people play that content. The first 2 weeks of WW when everyone was in LFG dungeons … oh boy !

Welcome to healing in WoW. It doesn’t always end this way, even when you encounter tanks like this who seem determined to die. But when you do meet them be prepared to be blamed. Anyone dumb enough to pull like that twice is also dumb enough to think that it couldn’t possibly be their fault.

I do think it is ludicrous that people who get kicked get a deserter debuff. That’s way too easy to abuse.

True.

And not giving a penalty/timeout to people who are kicked makes groups way too easy to abuse.

Just queue, pull everything, wipe the group. Or sit at the start. Or keep up with the group for the loot but do nothing. (And you KNOW they’re out there.)

Then when kicked, instantly requeue and probably get put back into the same group.

Well the group finder could (and should) be coded so that you don’t end up in the group that just kicked you.

Personally I see significantly more undeserved kicks than players who just do nothing. I actually can’t remember the last time I saw someone being essentially afk in the group. But the last time I saw an undeserved kick was only last week!

I agree. Me too.

But that is, at least in part, because that’s the way the incentive structure is aimed now. People who deliberately behave badly will be on almost permanent timeout. They’ll get tired of it. And so they won’t be infesting many groups.

Take away the debuff, and they will start to appear again. After a while, the numbers will keep increasing - and we will also see more of people who aren’t so blatantly just vandalising groups, but making them worse in various ways.

I wish there were a cleaner, more precise solution, but …

You wiped in a normal? Were you AFK or something?
