This is kinda weird, but I really like the gem system in the Mists Remix.

Controversial Opinion: I really like the gem system in Pandaria Remix and would love to see it in Retail

Oh sure, it is cramming up your inventory space and perhaps the idea of having so many different levels of rarity for gems is an issue. For me personally those gems add more depth to the gear you wear without breaking the game drastically. People already tested it. You can play perfectly fine without them the Remix. But imagine you have those sockets on epic gear in Retail. You can socket various epic gems into pre-defined slots to alter gameplay for your character by gaining passive abilities. …

The system reminds me a lot about the “mod system” Destiny 2 uses for armor.
