I suck at M+ 10 or higher, advice please

I’m pretty much in the same boat as you. I’ve been playing wow on and off since launch, yet I never did a +10 before. Now, however, I have done most dungeons on +9 and +8 (in time), and feel that I know the dungeons pretty well. I play as tank, so it’s almost impossible to “fake it untill you make it” - my mistakes don’t really blend in. Instead, they stick out like a sore thumb, and I gotta take the ridicule (“how lucky are we - we got the worst tank in the world”).

My answer to getting over the +10 threshold has been to join communities dedicated to people like me  Ie. the Scared of Dungeons community, which is super great and active. I’m sure you could join as well.

When it comes to pug’ing I don’t really know how to do this. Everyone expects the tank to know the tacts, yet I can’t say that I do since I never done it before. I really do feel that I need other, more experienced players to “carry” me for the first few dungeons and tell me about the clever manouvers so that I can learn. The chance of that in a PUG is nill. If I write that “tank is new to +10” then people who join are probably also incompetent, and that will not make for a good experience for anyone.

Join a semi-active guild or run M+ with friends… or maybe even get pugs on voip? It’s always a weight off my shoulder when my group’s on discord and we can bounce suggestions around over what route to take or how to approach a certain pack.

Just pretend it’s Season 1, week 1 :brain::gun:

Good suggestions, though I wouldn’t want to join voip with strangers. It’s bad enough having them write bad stuff in text. I wouldn’t want to have it in audio as well

Oh, no, don’t worry. None of them’ll have the balls to actually say it. I guarantee you they’d still type it.

I don’t blame you though. I’d feel a bit weird starting a +10 group that requires discord or something.

Of course you do, everybody does. But I still sand by my point that you have to learn this on lower keys and when you get into a +10 the only thing you should be thinking about or “learning” is how to deal with the last affix, whatever it may be. Everything else must be ironed out in lower keys. Especially the trash packs, priority interrupts, stun/CC interrupts, general routes, what to pull and what to skip and most importantly - when and where can you pull multiple packs together (in most cases this is decided not by the tanks ability to survive, but rather if it’s possible to control those packs and not let critical casts go off).

I totally agree with you. As I said, I’ve done most (not all) dungeons on +8 and +9 (on time) several times. Some dungeons I’m more comfortable with than others, but I know the mechanics. It’s the added layer of beguiling that I’m quite new to.
I’ve watched streams etc to try to pick up information, but it is not the same as doing it yourself.

I have certainly found doing a few on the lower keys (4-6+) give you a decent understanding of the mechanics but a bit more forgiving in terms of damage.

Also if you have decent ilevel and you make a few mistakes the group is normally more forgiving as you are pushing out decent numbers throughout the rest of the dungeon.

Also if you do happen to die I found watching the other players and seeing what they did/do that I didn’t really helped.

Disagree.
A lot depend on the group level. I helped a couple of guildmates this week with their alts pushing low keys, 6-8. Healer was solid so i pulled much bigger than what i should have done at that level, and on bosses i stayed still for many of the mechanics since the damage wasn’t really an issue.
This scenario is common, and for the pugs who get carried on, is not exactly a great learning example.

Well, if you’re boosting, by nature you and your group won’t learn as much.

Obviously, but what i meant is that if you’re learning, you should use your key and get a group of your level rather than pug someone else that may be boosting someone.
At this stage in the season, boosting alts is pretty common, it’s hard to find a brand new player with a low key.
