I suspect the prepatch might be "underwhelming"

Game play wise, if they dont implement the TWW baseline talent tree changes for the new expac (and since we dont have access to hero talents) that we will be basically playing the same game that we have been playing for the last 2 years. if all that changes is warbands nothing much has really changed

I think Warbands will be a big hit with many players. It’s probably one of the bigger features we’ve seen in pre-patches.

On PTR for pre-patch the talent tree changes for TWW are active (Hero talents are there also but can’t be used yet). The Warbands are also available, and then there’s the actual pre-patch event too and a short quest chain and Skyriding.

that is good news.

First week is just the systems [war bands on this case] and talents for it for people to familiarise with.

Following week will be the event, which is a pretty ‘generic’ one we’ve all seen before.

That’s how every prepatch goes before an expansion’s release.

all im saying is if theyre biggest selling point is a quality of life adjustment then theres not much going for this patch

Don’t know about you but War Bands alone is a big deal, which I hope they expand further upon such as account wide learnt profession recipes.

Imo they have always used this time as a buffer period for the main thing, kind of like an extended beta test to find out some tuning outliers and interactions that did not get noticed before etc.

The mere fact that hero talents still require you to take a certain path in your baseline talent tree is worrisome though. This just further solidifies my belief that these are meant to curate playstyles.

I don’t doubt it. The game is easier to balance that way. When we first learned of hero talents, my concern was that this would make class/spec balance even less achievable.

I’m a little underwhelmed by hero talents as a primary feature of a new expansion (they don’t feel big enough and their thematic impact isn’t strong enough), but for some specs they improve the combat flow and add some excitement.

I think they will just make them cooler and add the visual oomph to the ones that need it during the expansion, like 11.0.7, 11.1, 11.1.2, etc. I think they will introduce them to the game as soon as they are ready instead of in one bigger patch, just like they did with customization options and even the evoker class. All hero talents should be ready by expansion launch but deadlines are deadlines

All the changes will come with prepatch bar things that are actually new expansion

So all the class changes everything comes in. However Hero talents are something that you won’t gain access to because they start beyond the level we are currently capped at.

Please note that is the US infographic and we get prepatch on our reset day

The War Within™ Pre-Expansion Content Update Goes Live 24 July

Ah thats shame, so only talent reworks hit live next week 24.7 but no hero talents. And season beginning 10.9 is so far. :dracthyr_a1:

I just want to collect mogs with the warband system being introduced. I am not too bothered about the rest of it.

Personally I cannot wait for the whinefest regarding certain classes, mostly rogues, druids and DHs. But especially rogues right now are a huge huge mess

Pre-patch has a few simple goals.

  1. Build some hype.
  2. Give out some catch-up gear.
  3. Level up some alts quickly ready to jump into the new content.
  4. Give away some cosmetics, toys, pets, mounts and gear appearances.
  5. Some story questing to introduce the next big bad.

This is all players want. They want to spam some event (invasions, mini bosses or whatever) for a couple of weeks to get the above.

There is a simple formula for these things that they’ve run since Legion that has proven popular enough.
We can explore all the new features when the new expansion launches. Some of them won’t kick in until your max level anyhow.

Every pre-patch is underwhelming.

I hope my classes will be as strong as dh this season

Just out of curiosity, what would it take for the pre-patch not to be underwhelming, in your oppinion?

I haven’t looked too much into it because, somehow, it has failed to grab my attention completely.

From what I understand it looks like a really bad implementation of a nostalgia bonanza.

Par for the course for Blizzard these days it seems to me.

It’s called a PRE-patch for a reason. It’s PRE-content. It’s like the primer before you paint.
