I think I'm close to quitting WOW again

There is a kind of a pattern I go through with WOW. I play for 2-3 months every expansion and then I quit the game for a year or two.
I have been doing this for the last 12-13 years probably. Its an interesting relationship I have with this game. Keeps me here for a while but never for too long.

I dont hate WOW, I think its quite a good game but inevitably I always hit a wall, di say fairly fast, where there really isnt anything worth doing anymore and the things I want to do, the game doesnt allow me.

  • Mythic +:

I used to do these up to Mythic 20 in prior expansions but recently they just cause anxiety for me. I feel like I have to be snorting coke to enjoy playing Mythic dungeons. Maybe Im getting too old.

  • Game is too complicated:

I have been playing Outlaw Rogue for as long as I remember trying to get good at it. Theres just so many procs, so many skills and if you dont time it perfectly you start lagging behind. Whats worse is that I found it to be quite a terrible spec in pvp and even overall. lol. I pop off 10 different skills just to get 2 shot by a Sub Rogue. Then I get on my warlock and wonder why ive wasted so much of my time playing Outlaw. lol

Id really like to have much fewer skills so I can actually look at the screen, not having to glance at the skill bar so often. Id also consider trying out other classes if they werent so complicated to learn. Hell, I tried relearning assassin rogue and I quit after setting my key bindings for 15 mins, 30 mins hitting a dummy, because my eye-finger coordination was so off i couldn’t get the flow right. This stuff shouldnt be so complicated.

  • Pvp queue times:

I do enjoy pvp but I just dont understand how this game has queue times of up to 30mins+. Sometimes even longer. Sometimes I cant queue for hours. A deal breaker. Im not sure if its due to not enough healers playing or something of that variety. Ill sometimes mine ore for 3-4hours just to get 2-3 matches of BG in. Ridiculous.

If its due to healers… They should ban healing and tanking all together from BGs. Just make it pure dps and queue times of 1 minute. Why heals? If healers are an obstacle for matchmaking, get rid of them.
I dont care about the trinity, I just want to play the game.

I have this feeling that the whole game is too focused on marginal progression over time. Minor increases in iLVL over actually focusing on whats fun and getting people into fun as easily and quickly as possible.
I personally dont care about being 660ilvl over 655. I do care about having to wait for 30 mins for a BG.

i dont know why I wrote this. Who cares. lol.
I am looking forward to WOW 2 though. Hopefully they rewamp everything and cut 80% of the skills for every class. Im not saying WOW should have 4 skills in total like League Of Legends but there is a middle ground between LOL and WOW now, that would work great imo.

And it sais here that you have only done 1 +5. Trashing M+ like that by having only done 1 dungeon… especially wearing 597 pvp gear… especially after years of not playing…

I mean… I have rarely seen such a baseless whining… “causes me anxiety”… give me a break buddy!

Just leave, and next time you come back a couple of years from now, at-least take the time to sit down and research what changed in that 1 year.

keep waiting for eternity then .because that is not coming.

oh yes .the mentality that "remove every other spec because i dont play it " nobody is stopping you from taking the healer role yourself.

That’s alright.
Doesn’t have to play 24/7 all year round like one used to.
It would be nice to just have wow occupy most of my time but the game has changed and I share a lot of the complaints that you’ve expressed.
And I’ve changed too and games just can’t hold me like they used to

My tip would be to do what you already do. Play when you feel like it. If that’s 2-3 months every few years then that’s fine.

i do exactly the same, usually quit to enjoy Summer IRL, im on a break too since last week

things ive done since my break :

  • i went on a Canoe with friends down a river for 6 hours

  • ive also been to a festival

  • i went hiking up a mountain with friends

  • i got another festival lined up for july and an outdoor Gokart event

i think the game is a good distraction while the weather is bad ( live in the uk )
but life is soo much better when the weather is better and you have friends that want to go out and be active

i genuinely feel sorry for those that dont have the drive to Experience life outside of video games

  • i just hope someone reads this and is inspired to play the " IRL MMO " before its too late and they regret wasting thier time in front of the PC

I genuinely feel sorry for you, who cannot control himself to have a healthy dose of a hobby.

And instead comes here to pretend like going to festivals twice in the summer is a “healthy alternative” to a hobby.

you missed the point, its about enjoying your time with real people
and not being terminally online in a video game

look im not here to preach im sorry if you took offence to what i said

sometimes it hurts seeing a reflection in a statement… i get it.

This is mainly due to the fact that you are below Honor Level 30. For whatever reason Blizzard decided to put everyone below Honor Level 30 in their own bracket which is what’s causing your long queues. You can bypass it by queuing with someone above 30.

??? Excuse me??? You are making very wrong assumptions from someone that plays 2 days a week for 2h. At most. Cause sometimes its 1 day or 0 days.

You are not reading me. Who will you spend time with at 11pm after a long day of work and taking care of kids?

Maybe a relaxing Netflix series with some tea and a blanket? What difference does it make if 2 days you play WoW?

You are extrapolating your own addiction to others. You know that if you play for 1 single day you will bindge wow non-stop for a month. So you avoid it like the plague, and you somehow come here to give lessons to people assuming that everyonle lacks self controll. Like you do.

I am 100% sure that you also bindge Netflix series and do all nighters to watch every episode in a single sitting. Funny because if you assume things from others, expect people to assume things from YOU.

yeah, we are not the same,
but that doesnt mean i cant send a message to those that are affected.

if you took offence from what i wrote that speaks more volumes to you than me.

it is what it is

yea that’s about the same for me too,

me and some of my friends didn’t play since few days ago.

i think the first and second generation of players are not the target audience for wow anymore.
we will wait for 10 days to see whats going to happens here in my country (the war that started few days ago ) and then we will decide

Your point would come across better if you were a bit less condescending about it.

only when necessary, like replying to someone that clearly is offended by a statement, when im trying to inspire and be helpful

I did not take offense.

I just wanted to point out that you have no moral authority on anything. And sending a message to who exactly? Affected by what exactly? Do you know their case? Their situation? Maybe wow is an excellent therapy for whatever issue that particular individual is going through.

You need to be an adult to play wow. Or, have direct supervision of an adult if you are a minor. So people are responsible for their own actions. And need to behave like adults and are expected to behave like adults. If you think that stating the obvious to ADULTS changes anything… well… I have bad news for you…

The message is even in the loading screen of wow… it clearly sais to “take wow in moderation”. If ADULTS cant read, or are “surprised” by playing for 10h every day has consequences… then its their problem or social services problem.

So better to shut up and say nothing at all. People are free to do whatever with their life. Including wasting it. Or seeking help (or not) for whatever issues they might have. It’s the benefit of freedom. And its the price of freedom as well.

I’m pressing “x” for this one. I don’t see a single season where you did all dungeons ;p let alone above +12.

Please tell us who gave you this idea? It must be some Youtuber.

Or, you know… Learn how to balance things.
I enjoy WoW all year round and I enjoy RL activities all year round.
They’re not mutually exclusive.

didnt you quit and come back recently ?

Yes, but that didn’t have anything to do with balancing the game and rl.
I just didn’t have enough to do in-game to warrant me paying a sub. I still hope season 3 will be more to my liking than season 2.
