What I find interesting is that I played it around 20 years ago on PS1 with freakin joypad and managed to beat the game. Now, on PC, which has advantage like selecting group of units, etc, I cannot beat the second mission with humans lol. I even reduced speed to lowest at tactical moments, but to no avail.
I’m pretty sure it was nerfed for the consoles, hard. I can’t say for sure though, I only tried it briefly on a Saturn some years ago, and man was it bad. The entire soundtrack just ran each song in sequence, including victory and loss screen music. It’s not a hard game on pc though; it was my introduction to RTSes (played the demo sooo many times). Are you playing on high difficulty perhaps? Because on normal, it’s quite bearable unless you’re completely rubbish at games.
i might give it a try someday. but i dont do well playing older games because i get very annoyed by clunky controls
Is it proper hard like the original wc 3 hardmode? That also had some rather spicy missions on hard mode where you had to get used to the map and how big the waves were wich came out you and what units its concisted of. Or is it just challeneging due to clunky controls like alot of old games have
Oh yes, Beyond the Dark Portal is not something you jump right into. At least not if you haven’t played it in a while. You have to manage your units extremely carefully in that campaign, at least for the first few missions.
WC2 is certainly a lot different from WC3… Everything goes so fast, units attack with machinegun speed so microing anything is a pain, not to mention spellcasters xd
Though tbf, the speed is adjustable. Which is great when you just want to quicken resource gathering or mopping up an assured victory, or slowing down when you reaaally need to micromanage.
No I didn’t get to play it yet. I played WC1 up to like the 6th or the 7th mission but never had the patience to keep going.
I completed the terran campaign on SC1 as well as the Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm campaigns in SC2 on normal but I guess the games are pretty different.
My only tips are thus only general tips for the genre. Practice your macro, utilize keybinds instead of clicking on everything, learn to properly ramp up your resource gatherers and supply so you can then build your army.
Yeah I still have those on cd in my basement, along with a ton of other original copies of like Baldur’s Gate 1 with the expansion (6 cds) and all the other goodies from when gaming was amazing!
Full Throttle, Monkey Island, Red Alert, Day of the Tentacle, Nox, original collectors edition of Ultima Online, which I think the cloth map is still in the box! To name just a few! Great memories.
Starcraft isn’t too different from W2, it was mostly a sci-fi update with a lot of QoL. At least if playing Terrans or Protoss. Even Brood War seems to be a reflection of BtDP; harder campaign with more micromangement and focus on hero units. Starcraft 2 is quite a different beast compared to its predecessor and W3 however.
