Man, I hate doing stuff I’m not good at. I did some mythic raiding, especially in legion. And I obsessed quite a bit. Learned the fights like the back of my hand.
But I don’t have that kind of time anymore. I’ve never PVPed, outside of a dozen BGs every 2-3 years.
How difficult is it to get into rated PvP. I don’t play this expansion, I bought gear off the AH, but 226 isn’t that much. I have extraordinarily little desire to play anything shadowlands related.
But I’d reaallly like that saddle.
Is it kinda sorta doable in a way? If so, in which? Should I try and find RGB groups? Are 3v3s easier? Is it really cut-throat and exclusivist?
If you want it this season, perhaps it’s a bit late if you don’t even have the gear for it (and if it’s a new thing for you). Otherwise as a general way I’d recommend playing 2s with a healer and eventually you’ll get it.
When DF releases, perhaps it’ll be even easier through solo shuffle (I reckon it should count for the saddle since it will be rated PVP).
To get the saddle you have to win games at 1000+ rating. This is not very difficult as I don’t think you can lose rating before 1000, so losses do not really count.
It does take some effort though as you do need pvp gear to win even at 1000 rating somewhat consistently (especially if you really are not very good in pvp)
It also takes a lot of wins. You first need to collect current season’s mount and only after getting that you can start working towards the saddle. I am not sure how much % you get each win, but I think it is less than 1% in 2v2
You are too late this season. You should wait until DF season 1 and just play consistently over time so it does not feel like such a grind
As Laithelmus said, choose a healer. Doing this on a dps is significantly more difficult. Queue up and be honest with your skills. There’s plenty of nice and patient people in pvp as well
Yes, you can. Placement matches are until your matchmaking has stabilized, it has nothing to do with your CR. So once it’s stable enough, and your MMR is close to your CR, you’ll start losing CR from losses, regardless of what your CR actually is.
It’s just that most people posting in this part of the forum typically isn’t the kind of player who actually lose games that low rated, but you can try it out for yourself if you find someone who wants to spam queues for conquest on super low rating like they did in WoD.
play random battlegrounds untill you have full honor gear, then you can start making your own groups in rated battlegrounds and start farming conquest gear, then you play hundreds of games and spend hundreds of hours making teams betwen each game.
The only thing deciding whether its doable or not is if you can play on 1000+ rating consistently. With some gear and a viable comp it should be doable even if you’re very inexperienced in pvp. But if you jump into arena without any gear and with a bad comp, then it might seem impossible.
There’s no point starting now, as the season ends in a week. As someone mentioned, you also have to first grind the current season mount before you can start the progress on vicious saddle - which would require a massive amount of wins. You should wait until Dragonflight (which will also make gearing for pvp a lot easier), and just play on a regular basis throughout the season.
Im pretty sure 3v3 is the best way, as it grants 2-3x the amount of progress that 2v2 does, and the games are generally faster. It might however be harder to find 2 people to play with, rather than just 1. Being a healer helps a lot. Having friends to play with helps even more! Also as mentioned rated solo shuffle might contribute towards saddle progress, in which case it should be very easy to get. Cant remember how much RBG gives, but considering the amount of time it takes to form and maintain teams, I wouldnt recommend it.
Win games in any bracket above 1000 rating. 2s give the least and RBG gives the most, but 2s is also the easiest to simply Q up in. Earlier this season the median rating was 1.6k, likely higher now, so even if you’re worse than the average player, you can still get your hands on the saddle.
You don’t need any crazy skills to get the saddle, just commitment and being willing to invest the time necessary to get the X amount of wins done.
There’s no rush, the saddles don’t go anywhere and can be obtain in any season, so I’d say wait for DF S1 so you have a fresh season to just take your time in, because you have plenty of it throughout a season.
like peikko already said its too late.
u have no pvp gear and no exp. starting now at the end of an expansion when everybody and their mother is full gear will be a struggle. id recommend u to try early df so ur on equal footing at least gearwise.
Pretty much. Check out that unrated game called “Solo Shuffle” if you want to give it a try now. It’s essentially solo queue matchmaking for 3vs3, yeah.
This gametype is becoming a new rated bracket in Dragonflight, so it should give you progression on the vicious mount as well just like the other rated brackets
For the last part of your question if you don’t have people to queue 2vs2 or 3vs3 with, it sounds like it would be the best way to farm the mount
