I want to FINISH the story!

Blizzard is almost there.

Goodday everyone, i am Rabies the Magnificent, Its an honour.
Today I would like to talk to you about leveling.
Blizzard is almost there when it goes to the new leveling system. Its on a good pace, its fun to do and i just love doing story content.
However, right now, its just one zone in an expansion and thats it.
It is for that reason i chose to level Legion on my warlock, atleast i could do the orderhall campain. WRONG!.(ish)
I am almost finished with the zone( lvl 40) waiting for the next set of quests to unlock, to get my followers etc. I am afraid to be locked out of the zone and the questing experience.
But i only did one Zone.

I will give you an example:
We need a summary questline that takes you trough the entire expansion worth of content,( you dont HAVE to do this obviously you can just go as fast as you can/want)

You start in Dalaran, unlock your Orderhall and pick your zone.
The Zone’s most important questline is the one you do, the one that brings you each of the pillars of creation, ignoring everything else, break some of the story if you must.
Eachtime you finish the zone you que up for a scenario that is not exactly like a dungeon but it kinda is where you kill some important stuff.
After that you go to the broken shore, you have a small story there aswell finish the dungeon and move on. This entire journey takes you all the way to Argus.
Where eventually you join a scenario like group, with whoever is there, and you kill the final boss of the Expansion.

You Unlocked everything, every story, every zone, every flightpath.
Yes you missed small parts but you can still do those later, if you want, you dont HAVE to.

You start in dalaran at lvl 10
You finish in the Argus raid and ding 50.

This should go for every Expansion.
I want to kill Illidan.
I want to kill The Lich King
I want to Kill Deathwing( not the part where you are on his back delete that from the game)
I want to kill Garrosh
I want to kill Garrosh again and Archimonde.
I want to kill Gul’dan and Argus
I want to Kill N’zoth

I want to kill all of them. I want to progress trough the story, the zones. All of it.

You are almost there blizzard. Just hire some extra people and get this done in the next 2 years.
You will have a game that is repeatable and fun for years, decades to come where new and old players can experience the content, a tiny bit, like it used to be.

Rant over.
I Rabies the Magnificent approve of this message.

Before prepatch went live i was thinking how i can relive all my favourite expansions on one alt at the time, carefully going through all the quests in right order.

What i have ended up doing on lvl 10 onwards is:

  • start Legion and get Dalaran HS and class hall things going
  • start wod and build my garrison and get things going there
  • start BFA for having portal to there as well - run IE as lowbie
  • activate Cata and run low lvl Deadmines
  • hover around the world randomly doing my favourite areas mixed in different expansions
  • goof around in TBC with low lvl DH to confuse quest givers
  • and so on…

Also having time of life.

With regards to integrating the dungeon and raid stories into the levelling process; yes, please! Even if it’s 19 NPCs and me. Even if it’s easier than LFR. Let me do it for the story and the mogs

While we do get a more consistent story now, it’s still missing the last chapter because that was always the raid. Let’s bring them back as part of the levelling process - or, you know, MORE timewalking raids, and one of them is always available at all times.

There is so much content in WoW and not having a timewalking event for 4 of every 5 weeks is just squandering that massive resource.

More generally, I do feel that experience gain is too fast; I was a bit sad that my warrior came out of the Jade Forest at level 29… but I waited for 33 and heroic leap, then went to the experience eliminator. I have 6 zones left and 17 levels, so if I unlock for 3 levels per zone, it should be sensible (though being careful NOT to ding 50 until I’m properly finished).

It’s not perfect, but it will still give some sense of progression while questing, and means I can finally collect all the plate mogs. It’s not a great option, but it’ll work for me and doesn’t get in the way of other people rushing to cap so they can… grind for essences? I dunno what people do at endgame rn. No idea why everyone’s so pleased they can rush to 50 and do the same stuff they’ve been moaning about for 2 years :joy_cat:

I started a new Draenei character to test the leveling and could not believe I was lvl 23 halfway through Bloodmyst Isle, with no heirlooms. It is way too fast to the point where it feels like cheating.

It’s obvious why they’ve done it, they want people to be lvl ready to buy Shadowlands ASAP, but in my mind it’s done more harm than good. The fact that they don’t warn you about being booted out of Chromie Time is inexcusable and not up to Blizzard’s standard, especially when they’ve apparently designed this to be friendly to newcomers. The whole thing feels hastily put together.

And I don’t get the need to rush to 50 either, or why churning out three alts a week is fun or a necessity.

Magnificent!

But yeah it would be nice to be able to do the whole story, even if it means not doing any side quests.

u can solo everything at level 45 but not at 50 this is messed up

40-50 takes almost as much time as 10-40

Blizzard should make like FF14 and have a Main Quest Storyline, at least one per expansion, that plays all the story of the expansion in order. They don’t even need to force people to play in order, just have an option to use the new quest markers introduced in Shadowlands that show the main quest to only see the next quest in the story. So for example, if you are playing Legion content none of the Argus quests will have the new quest marker until you complete previous quests chains that were from previous patches. That means if you only pick the quest with the new marker you will be playing the expansion in order, like FF14 Main Quest Storyline

EDIT: Imagine it works like this, we have 5 quest chains in Legion that you could now pick at any time, but in lore there is a chronological order between those 5 quest chains. That means people would still being able to pick all those 5 in any order but the new quest marker will only be active for the first quest chain, after complete that it would be active for the second one, and so on, so players could now that for playing the story in order they should pick the first quest chain only, when they complete it they could see the second quest chain is the next in story order, and so on.

All they need to do is not to disable chromie time once you hit 50.

This is the only way I’d do that right now.

An optional, streamlined questing experience would be a great addition to the game. Hitting the main story points while skipping the numerous “fetch me ten bear backsides” quests would make for a much better game.

I wish Blizzard had fully embraced player agency and let people level however they wish, whether that be questing, dungeons, picking flowers, or hanging around in the forest killing sixty-five million three hundred and forty thousand two hundred and eighty five boars.

I agree with you.
I dont mind the side quests. But For this i would skip them.
I would also make it optional. If you want to GTFO at lvl 50. Do it
But attatch a scenario to the end of your questing experience.
A Dungeon, A scenario
Something like that to truely end your playtrough trough that zone

My Legion leveling experience.

Did Azshara main story up to the dungeon quest, and some side quest nodes.
Did Stormheim main story up to the dungeon quest and minimum of side quests.
Dinged 50 getting to about less than half of Val’sharah main story.

Is that what counts as “full expansion experience”?

To me it seems like 1/5 experience at most - not that I expected to go to Argus, but I expected doing all the main stories and maybe starting up on the Suramar storyline before dinging.
As soon as I got to 50 I was LITERALLY booted out of the Broken Isles back to faction capital. Involuntarily. You get like 30 sec countdown to say your prayers before being yanked to the capital.

The joke is, that’s only about 30% longer “experience” than before when leveling there during BFA. Just that before 9.0.1 I only got to 1.75 of a zone instead of like 2.2.
How some people still find it too slow, I’ll never understand. It’s the fastest leveling in ALL MMOs I’ve ever played… (bar maybe SWTOR during leveling event, but that doesn’t count. SWTOR is story driven MMO so you’ll go through ALL the planets regardless if you’re leveling normally, or if you dinged 75 on the third planet already (instead of like, 23rd or however long it takes normally).

yeah…but then i feel the need to expand it etc. i just really hate spending money knowing i will barely use it.

Sadly I’m always gone when it’s level 2 and it rarely gets to 3.
