So I played Monk a lot in Shadowlands, I stopped playing it just because I wanted to try Evoker in DF. I am bored of Evoker and want to go back to Monk.
All I hear from the community is crying how weak Windwalker is, and how much the class sucks, and rework when, and etc.
But I look at the logs and they are A+ sitting just above middle of the pack both in Raid , M+ and in PvP.
Is the Monk community just whiny or is there actually something wrong with the class? It’s giving Warlock/Shaman vibes no offense lol.
Try it and stick with it if you like it. People complain about everything possible
SV Hunters and Warriors considered to be noodles, yet I play them personally as I enjoy them.
That’s what matters to me. If you want to be progressive, Monks, especially tanks are in a good spot usually.

Play what your heart desires, and not what cringe people from the internet say.

Every class forum is whiny, its what they do.
If you want to play it then play it.

99% of the people that complain, probably wont ever reach the level when it matters anyway and their under performance is mostly caused by them and not the class.

Depends. We got a cracked windwalker who is consistently top of the meters. If you know how to play it, it can definitely perform well enough.
More importantly is if you enjoy the playstyle.

My heart desires the Tinkerer, where’s my Tinkerer!?

You can always play healer if you want to main monk. MW is kinda good tbh.
I don’t think you have to wait either, just get gearing now.

WW received buffs not long ago. It does as well or better than other non-meta specs in M+ and is pretty much in the middle of the pack in the heroic raid and fifth best in the mythic raid (95th percentile parses setting, 10.2). Looks very playable to me.
I think you should generally play what you enjoy unless you are super competitive and do content that requires a maximum of optimization.
Windwalker is fun. I mained one during legion and i was very happy with him. Fun is the only thing that matters.
They are middle of the pack overall. Not OP not Bad.
Not playing monk to an extent that I can judge the class to a gameplay pov, but the if it comes to numbers the community is just whiny.
They are okay.
It highly depends what you wanna do. If you want to go till 24+ , mythic raid and 2k+ rating monk can easily archive that.
If you want to Highend M+, Progress-Raid and Glad, it will get more difficult due to do as monk dps (Mainly due to finding groups)
I suggest you to try it out at the dummys and if the playstyle fits you, go for it.
Not sure what that supposed to mean
It doesn’t matter what the community thinks or what the logs show. Play the class you love and you’ll be great at it.
I believe people are just whiny. I love taking a WW into m+ with me.
that is the point.
alot of the whining came before the larger buffs, which were quite valid.
now ww is quite solid, but terrible playstyle with the tier

Im willing to bet that people who really know and enjoy their class and play it well, have more fun and get better results than the meta slaves who switch class/spec every season because the meta dictates it. Play what YOU want to play, not what the internet tells you to play.

Both WW and MW are totally fine now, even seeing some Brewmasters every now and then.
I’ll only speak for WW
Short answer, WW at least is 100% fine up to 25 keys at least… dps wise
Long answer, their dps is fine, but they are in desperate need of a rework because the spec is flawed.
- It scales very poorly with gear compared to most other classes, so pretty much every patch you rely on the aura buffs that comes to get it on par with others.
- If you ever approach something that looks like really good ST dmg, you’ll be completely busted in M+. Much of your ST dmg is also your aoe dmg which makes it a nightmare to tune.
- Especially with current tier set you are completely reliant on RNG procs. You can go from doing 1million dps with no cds on a pack, to doing 500k with CDs, for a class that was traditionally very much planning your next 10 abilities in advance, it feels wrong to be a complete proc spec now.
- When RNGesus is kot on your side, there is no way to force a proc, feels real bad those dungeons where you go the first 5min with barely any procs, and when they do happen its at the end of a fight just before some rp ect.
- For WW the class capstone talents are barely worth taking.
- AoE touch of death should never have been a thing… you can utterly demolish low level dungeons with it, but scales poorly into high dungeons whilst still being the best talent, sadly… please bliz, remove aoe touch of death
3 changes I’d love to see implemented.
- Make it so for every combo point/chi you spent and dont get dance of chi-ji proc you get an increasing chance to proc it… make it more consistent, if the dmg needs nerfing to compensate thats fine.
- Remove touch of death aoe talent… maybe bring back the old ToD from bfa/legion where it detonates for more dmg after a time dependent on how much dmg you put into it before the detonation.
- Do something about the scaling , its ridiculous that its been this many years where we’re reliant on aura buffs weeks and months after patch releases.
I think Ellipsis made really good points about this talent.
It’s quite a lot of pointless pad, you just end up overkilling mobs by a lot and looking pretty on the meters but in reality the damage you did is probably not always that helpful. Although its pretty decent in bolstering - executing a load of mobs that have stacks can’t be a bad thing.

I fully agree… I’ve said since s1 df it should never have been a thing, and I’ll stand by it
