-I was wrong, we need layers

I agree that they will not remove it, however they could consider changing the population threshold at which layering triggers (it is most likely an automated system).

Playing regularly before the layering was implemented, i did not feel like the world was too full to play comfortably. So the layering is probably configured too aggressively.

I feel like the issues you describe here are only temporary. We organized WBs just fine with 6 layers back in 2020. The world will feel more alive once more players fill the freshly created layers.
Chill out.

There were no layers on RP-based servers in Classic. Iirc they existed for a very small time and then were turned off, due to it breaking immersion of RPers, which seems a valid reason.

Even though our megaserver is ofc not RP-based the facility to switch it off is there.

I am not the author of this thread, so I am just trying to contribute here.

While what you say may be true, we still have to give it a go.

Also, I do not understand your comment about splitting our hardcore. We play on Firemaw so no hardcore here. It is a regular Classic PvP server.

yes, because it dropped on all layers back then.
Now you can just get the buff, if youre on the same layer as the dropper…

Bump.
Also is there a way to see active layers or even swap layers?

If they actuall fill it out once they log in and see “dead” layer and log out cbaing to play that underpopulated crap😉. Maybe people call for layering to be removed, but thats how is extreme beaten up, beating it with another extreme. In the end we might end up setting treshold for layers being activated at being 10min in que to play, then “everyone” will be happy. Call it compromise or logic decision. On other hand it will still ruin wpvp by abusing layers for escapism.

“Questing was almost impossbile”

Who cares. At 2019 Classic release i took 4 hours to complete one quest in Stranglethorn cause it was all out war. One of the most fun times.

Layers have to go and never come back.

if it continues like this the world pvp disappear and remaing only thing is wsg for pvp lovers. cuz if there is no weekend of ab or av u can only get que for wsg.

In short, the game does not giving anything to those who want to pvp.

please remove layers or classic will be ruined with your hands

I mean they could… but seeing how full the every single starting area is and people doing 2-3h queues just to kill one mob because the HC community decided to use exactly 1 server per faction I don’t see the threshold as too bad.

It just takes time until the layers are filled and once more people join even layer 2 will be full of players. It’s just that people’s first reaction is LETS GO THE FORUMS AND BOYCOTT.

No they didn’t remove it on RP servers. They just increased the threshold on them. Some RP servers still had layers.

remove layers thanks

I don’t know about HC, but on the Firemaw cluster, with it’s full population, there have not been any queues for mobs, even with starting areas well-populated (my newest alt is level 8, and Northshire/Elwynn is busy but not congested).

ZT was never layered even on release days of phases and the servers were packed to the point of lag. Maybe they increased the threshold to something so that it would never kick in. Effectively removing the system.

It’s unfortunately active on Hydraxian Waterlords. Yesterday I joined a guildie’s group for a dungeon run while herbing and the black lotus I was about to pick disappeared before me because I changed to the layer he was in.

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that it was like that at some point, but I 100% remember in original P6 (maybe TBC prepatch?) we still had 3 layers and just posted “popping Ony on layer 2 at 19:30” in discord. Somebody in your raid group will always have that layer, so in my mind this only makes getting buffs easier by having more CDs available. Layer hopping was not a problem back then, so it should hardly change anything in terms of buff organization, if it is still possible to easily hop layers now. If it isn’t, I get your point. Otherwise this should not be a big problem. Hardly a reason to turn off layering completely.

I understand the other arguments about WPvP and leveling on a PvP Server, though I have no strong feelings on that one. I think that WPvP shouldn’t be about griefing one specific person. If somebody wants to hop layers to evade me camping menethil, that’s fine for me. It’s not like they don’t have any other chance to evade getting camped in WPvP. It’s not changing anything for myself.
