My pets are OP to the point I almost have no fun winning 90% of the time…
Why don’t you use some different pets that would require more decision making your end?

Is like you ask me why I don’t skip my turn. Because the point is to use the strongest pets.
What specific pet battles are you talking about?
Have you tried pvp pet battling? Maybe the Pandaren pet tournament? Did the dungeons?

Well 90% is not 100% so there’s still room to improve!
imagine being restricted to use only strong and easy to play pets in order to have a winning chance
