Quick question, I’m lv 45 and following a fire mage guide.
The spec picks up the ability Ice Nova, which has a 2 sec root instead of the 6 sec of frost nova. What am I missing, it takes quite a few points to get to Ice nova but I don’t see he big benefit - advise on this?
Damage. Targetted from 40y instead of you-have-to-be-pretty-much-in-melee. I don’t think the guide writer would blink (or shimmer) if the root was removed.
One thing to bear in mind, its probably more useful for solo play than it is when you start doing mythic+
Reason for this is that you want to be up close and personal for dragons breath and you can take the other talent further down that gives you 2 x Frost nova for those weeks with ghosties, makes it very easy to keep them away from you and others.
It combo’s nicely with comet storm, it actually does decent damage, the area of effect is cast around the target instead of yourself which has its uses. Sometimes you want to run away immediately after casting CoC, in that case you can use ice nova to freeze the pack after your second comet storm. It’s actually very useful in M+
edit: Sorry didn’t realize you were playing fire mage, I still think it’s useful as a CC tool from 40y away.
