Idea for a Tier Set "Rework"

Recently i had a Shower thought, where i thought about Tier Sets and how we could better it without making a Azerite Armor 2.0

I think everyone of you knows what i mean when i say it feels super bad when you have a very fun and interactive tier set, maybe even a very strong one, just for it to be replaced with one that is either forcing you into a playstyle you don’t want to play or is just straight up super boring by just being something like “Ability X does 10% more damage”

My idea drew inspiration from a few things seen in the last Expansion, like Legendary Crafting and Fated Raids, instead of a Raid dropping a Tier Piece with an already determined Effect, you would still drop a Piece, which you then can for example put into the Catalyst (Free of Charge, as it’s already a piece) and then have a selection of 4 different Tier Set bonuses available for you to chose from.

Might be a stupid idea, but i still wanted to post about it and hear other peoples opinion on the matter.

in theory it is great, in practice it fails because of blizz inability to 100% balance those bonuses out.
Meaning that 99% of the people playing end game will (have to) choose the best performing one.

Generally it would be better for the tier set target things in the tree that you have to skill anyways, so basically the first half or should just target basic skills.

I’m not a fan, all it means is something will sim highest, this is what most go for. Or worse, you need different effects for different content. Now that is a nightmare.

If blizzard would have to create 4 boni they would mostlikely end up as boring as the azerite traits…

I prefer a set with intersting stuff.

The 4 was just a random number, this could obviously be more or less, but yeah i think at the end it doesn’t matter since “This sims 1% better” mentality.

The number would also not matter…
you see, bfa allready tried to replace T-sets as you mentioned.

Back when they revealed the concept I was curious and allmost excited, but when the actuall boni were shown we got mostly multiple boring and uninspiring boni.

And after watching blizzard crumble for mutliple years now, I just dont have any confidence left. Lets stick with what works

Also another important note is that setboni are designed to mix up classes a bit every patch by creating interactions with certain parts of the kit. (Which ofc also not allways work).

And yes, ofc balance would also have a word here

I kinda like that idea, but balancing will be a nightmare. Most likely than not every one will be using the highest sim tier set and the rest will just be ignored.

Won’t work, people don’t like to make choices, they want blizzard to decide how they should play each season.
