Idea to designers: shrinking and enlarging class abilities; for encounters

For example there could be a boss special button that makes you shrink so you can fit through a hole in ground that takes you through a tube to pop up elsewhere or enlarge so you can intimidate a foe. If the design becomes successful then maybe you could have class abilities themselves doing it e.g. healers being able to mass shrink or mass enlarge or other classes having it as a special bonus (PS I know some obscure items from old expansions or toys can do it but that’s not fun if you want it to be a core mechanic available to everyone as a core mechanic necessary to complete something).

Are you sure that moldy cheese you ate was fresh?

The idea came from someone mentioning here people doing something similar in 5mans with obscure items and toys from old expansions Can we talk about things that Shadowlands did BETTER compared to all other expansions? - #18 by Clarence-twisting-nether , which is probably unintended by the devs. E.g. they could have a special button that shrinks them to avoid a wave taller than them.

When reading the title, I thought you were going to suggest an idea where certain bosses would give you a buff that expanded or shrink the set of your class abilities. Possibly completely changing your class abilities.

Would have been cool. Then I read about your alice in wonderland fetish.

It was already implemented at least once in the 8.1 raid Dazar’Alor against Mechatorque, where one of his gadget shrinks you and you gotta destroy his bots from within iirc. There’s a shrink mechanic in Karazhan but that’s for the whole party.

So yeah the shrinking mechanic is definitely interesting and was afaik very well received by the playerbase.

Dunno about enlarging tho, I guess you could buff a teammate so that he becomes some kind of worldboss for a short while but this would probably be abused to oblivion.

Yeah, shrinking sounds interesting because the main room/zone may look basic and then shrinking to get you become able to go through new mechanics like that 5man in Karazhan (I just remembered that).

Enlarging would be mainly to become more powerful I guess OR you could start from “small world” and large world to become ‘regular’ etc.
