Ideas for changes to the trees

I just want to present a list of things that I think should be changed in our trees in the hope that Blizzard will actually consider these ideas. I will only be talking about the shared class tree and the discipline tree, so feel free to add your own ideas.

The class tree:

First of all, remove Prayer of Mending from the class tree and give it to holy priests exclusively. Only they skill into it because they actually benefit from it in a multitude of ways. It’s one of the worst talents you can pick as a discipline priest, and I don’t think our shadowy brothers and sisters skill into that either. If this spell is supposed to be meaningful for all priests, make it so it is. Discipline priests for example would benefit from it if it spread atonement.

Reduce the mana costs of renew for discipline priests. Renew is only there to apply atonement so that your shields and pw: radiance benefit from mastery. It’s ridiculous that it heals almost nothing for a hot and still costs us 6000 mana. Our shield “heals” at least three times that and costs the same. Reduced mana cost for renew could be a talent node in our class tree, and the talent should halve the mana cost.

Get rid of Word of the Pious. It’s just bad. Replace it with something meaningful that is equally strong compared to the right side of the class tree.

Unlink inspiration from Mass dispel. Move it up in the tree so that we can actually get it. Or unlink spell warding / blessed recovery from prayer of mending and holy nova. Why are these prerequisites for a nice talent like that? Holy nova is only useful in very niche situations. It’s mostly useless in most dungeons right now.

Please connect phantasm to vampiric embrace / sanguine teachings. The talents that unlock vampiric embrace are not that useful most of the time. They can be useful, absolutely, but they shouldn’t be a requirement for vampiric embrace, which is always useful.

Throes of pain and abyssal reverie do not work together. One rewards us for consuming our Purge the Wicked before the enemy dies, the other one rewards us for not consuming it.

The discipline priest tree:

First of all, our tree has no talents that buff the effectiveness of atonement even though that’s the main mechanic behind the discipline priest. What the actual F?

Please rethink bright pupil and enduring luminescence. I like the idea behind enduring luminescence, and it was already buffed at some point, but the current 4 piece t set bonus just makes this talent so pointless. And we need instant pw: radiance. I would like to see this talent node be turned into a two point node that if skilled gives us our 4 piece t set bonus and a 5 second reduced cd. One point would just be a weaker version of it. Or make it a two point node that lets us get both bright pupil and enduring luminescence. Seriously, pw: radiance is so important, there need to be more ways that we can empower it.

Light’s wrath is such a nice idea, but discipline priests need to get shadow covenant and harsh discipline and abyssal reverie and twilight equilibrium. The combination of these is way better than light’s wrath. If you want to keep light’s wrath, you should move it up in the tree so that we can skill into it earlier, for fewer points of course.

Replace Make Amends with something useful or just get rid of it. It just complicates everything.

This is it for now. There’s more of course, but I would like to hear some feedback on these ideas first.

Thanks.

tbh i think a big part of why its never played for disc is because we have such a button bloat to begin with. i can see a world where we specced it if we didnt have 10 different buttons to press for mediocre dmg / healing as it is

That and the fact that it’s not worth the global cd. If there were synergies with other spells, just like our fellow holy priests have, it would be OK. But the healing is bad and it costs too much mana. Before I cast a prayer of mending, I can cast a smite to get closer to a harsh penance.

Currently, the discipline priest must exert much more effort to perform on par or even less than other healers. However, they do this with an element of fun and excitement as they maintain their ramps, which while thrilling, is unfortunately not adequately rewarded in the current system. The concept of Atonement should be re-envisioned as a passive function, interacting with injured allies akin to Pandaria albeit significantly less powerful. Concurrently, the ability to actively apply Atonement should be preserved, potentially enhancing the overall healing output. This modification could facilitate continuous healing between ramps without the necessity of consuming mana, thereby making the process not only more enjoyable but rightfully rewarding as well.

Evangelism should apply Atonement to all raid members, not merely extend its duration. This change would mitigate penalties arising from mistakes in the Atonement application process.

Luminous Barrier should see a massive effectiveness boost considering its lengthy cooldown period and its function as an emergency resource.

Radiance, as presently implemented in raids, strikes me as a contradictory talent. Most of the healing it produces during ramps is typically wasted as it frequently occurs during periods of reduced damage. I suggest removing that healing and replacing it with an extended Atonement duration. This change could include a node allowing players to either select reduced Atonement time for healing in Mythics or forgo healing entirely in favor of longer Atonement periods in raids.

Mindgames: Considering its current cooldown, this talent seems to somewhat underperform in comparison to Mind Blast. To make it more competitive and attractive, it could be transformed into an instant cast ability. This change would allow for more seamless integration within the ramps, thereby enhancing its usability and efficiency.

In my view, Light’s Wrath is an insufficient talent mainly because the boss’s damage isn’t usually dealt at a discrete moment but happens in bursts over a few seconds, demanding sustained healing. Perhaps if Light’s Wrath also applied a damage-over-time effect that was enhanced by the number of people affected by Atonement, it would offer more utility. Another idea could be to introduce a debuff applied to the boss to increase the damage they take for a few seconds. Personally, I have not chosen this talent. I’ve found that enhancing my other capabilities works better for me, especially given the frequent, continuous damage windows during raids.

Regarding the useless talents you mentioned in both trees, I completely agree. If I’m not mistaken, Power Word Shield is available as a base ability for Holy, and Discipline Priests have the talent Prayer of Mending in their tree. The final rows of the Discipline tree are very costly, as they all require investing two points to reach the last tier.

I’ve always had the feeling that they don’t have a clear direction for gameplay for this specialization. It’s as if the base tree is meant for Shadow or Holy. Even the talents that seem to cater to the Discipline specialization feel somewhat weak (for example, Cristline Reflection not working with Atonement and Devouring Essence feels somewhat weak and it seems that its use is limited to dungeons). Lastly, the final rows of the Discipline tree are very costly, as they all require investing two points to reach the last tier.

They could just reduce the CD down to 1.5 minutes. Seriously, even PW:Barrier should have that CD.

Light’s Wrath is so bad in so many ways. First of all, why does it have a 1.5 minute CD? In PvE, a critical Light’s Wrath will heal everybody for about 60k. Maybe more, depending on how much mastery the priest has. 60k is nothing for a 1.5 minute CD. Make it 30 seconds, so it can be used during burst healing while shadow covenant is active. Also, add Mind Blast to the 40% more crit, not just Smite and PW: Solace. Now you could add it to a good burst healing rotation: Schism, some non shadow spell, dark reprimand, Light’s Wrath, mind blast, mind blast or so.

Another aspect that I also dislike about Discipline is that its damage reduction spells (Power Word: Barrier or Pain Suppression) are very useful resources but difficult to quantify in terms of healing. This leads to different players valuing their impact on overall healing performance differently.

And as you mentioned, the cooldown of Light’s Wrath is absurd. It would make sense if it applied healing without the need for Atonement to be applied to the party, for example.

Add a different option for the SL skill ? Kyrian e.g. not the version nobody picks?

priest tree must be with cc support defensive offensive( haste- spell damage bonus vsvs) skills . not healing or attack skills.

I understand your perspective. But the Discipline Priest does offer a unique and original method of healing through Atonement and damage absorption. Many players, including myself, appreciate this playstyle. However, I agree that adding some supportive skills to the tree could enhance its versatility without completely abandoning its current healing focus. It would be interesting to see a balance between offensive, defensive, and support abilities that complement the unique healing style of the Discipline Priest.
