SPOILER (For anyone who didn’t read the book)
yep the daughter of the guy the cultists torture to death gets to marry her girlfriend at the end.
And any LGBTQ Member is pissed off when someone mentions that they dont like them and continiues to call them homophobic with no reasoning. Well done. What you fail to understand is that there is a difference between Real life and this, people play/read this for a reason.
In the freedom that you all profess to fight for, everyone has the right to voice their opinion. You shouldnt insult/attack others because that opinion/view/belief differs from yours.
LGBT people aren’t political. We just exist.
Pretending we don’t is political.
Doesnt ring a bell. De Zandalari be of open heart and mind alike me sees.
What reason is that?
This is just an indication to how open people are to this diversity that one day becoming a norm and not a minority. Opinions are fine, but having each and every new thread opening up about this subject is more of propaganda, each and everyone spews of either leaving the game or faction. Sure its your choice, but its disheartening to see such a blowback.
There are no threads of rage about Lor’themars and Thalyssra’s new interracial ship. Why is that, I’ll leave that to you to conclude.
I think it’s more due to the likelihood that the marriage in question served literally no purpose than to have a gay couple in it. The reason why couple stories such as Turalyon and Alleria worked, or Lor’themar and Thalyssra, is because their relationships were fleshed out and built up on. The characters were important. Now I point to the two gay characters in Ardenweald, two husbands. Their relationship and backstory are explained, and I am VERY invested in these characters. Their motivations and reasons are clear, and I am eager to see what these characters do in the future. The same with the two female night elf lovers for the Enchanting questline in Legion. It was sweet and intriguing, but ultimately had more than just “here’s two women who love each other.” My only slight criticism of that story is that a teacher and a student became lovers. It isn’t particularly well regarded in real life, so some feeling of that aversion is there.
Aspects of a written story must have a purpose. If you can look at an event in a book or game that could be removed and change literally nothing in the story context, then you have to question if it was good writing. The majority of the book was fine, but it did lack in some other areas.
I am encouraging everyone to express their opinions, but don’t make pikachu face when you get a backlash.
Take it like a man, and proudly say - “Yes! I am a homophobe.”
Oh wait…
And there’s the common tactic: use the word “homophobe” or “racist” against someone that you do not agree with, and they suddenly lose the argument. Rather than try and have a civil discussion to try and convince people to agree with you, it is far simpler to simply label them as something bad, and when they try to defend themselves or someone else tries to, you can just label them the same, even when they show no actual signs of doing so. Now if someone actually IS being homophobic or racist, feel free to call them out.
But they are correct, people do indeed have the right to voice an opinion, even if it is one you do not agree with. You can then take it as “I believe this person is wrong, maybe I can try to persuade them otherwise?” or “I disagree with this person’s stance and they won’t change, I know who to avoid now.” I expressed my views in the post above yours, and I can certainly say that homosexuality in the game/books is fine so long it is done well, like anything else. I just disagree that it was done well in the book, but as listed with other listed examples of relationships, those were done well and look promising in the future.
We’re just providing our opinion. Isn’t that what you want people to be able to do?
Many relationships serve no purpose other then letting a character personal benefit. Thrall and Aggra relationship has served almost no purpose other then slowly taking away Thrall from Warchief mantle and having reason to leave alone.
Same goes to Jaina and Kalec’s unfinished romance. Most ships in game are brushed off without people caring too much about it.
Their relation started by the end of Legion and had no actual hints up until end of BFA, I fail to see the difference between the two, or the depth of their relationship, it has culminated in one short story, worthy of laugh. Of course it served just to fortify the bond between two nations lorewise, but other then that there is no depth or flashing out of story, at least I cannot see it.
Or can serve as side story for character.
Anyway point being having such backlash isn’t only about the purposelessness of the ship, or forceful nature of it, no other forced ship had threads of “Im leaving the game hur hur hur!”
You dont like it ? Move along, there’s plenty other aspects to enjoy in game
Please look up the definition of the word. The thread is the textbook example of what this word means. “Forced gay agenda” made such a huge impact on author it caused him to leave the game.
Why I shouldn’t call something by its name when it’s so perfectly clear? I am not afraid of this word.
And there is the relationship’s purpose: to allow Thrall to have some comfort in leaving behind the mantle of Warchief. It ultimately culminated and grew into him having a proper family, which is heartwarming and, for a character like Thrall, long overdue.
This is an example of a relationship where I asked “Uhm, why?” It was very strange, and didn’t even last that long. Plus it showed that Jaina simply can’t hold onto a relationship for long. Could have continued the story without it, and there would have been little difference.
It is fresh, but it does have a literal short story dedicated to the actual formation of the relationship. And yes, it does also serve as al ink between two nations. But it also serves the purpose of allowing the usually strict Lor’themar to have a break and to actually enjoy himself for a change. But the short story did highlight the similarities the two have, especially concerning betrayals from leaders they regarded highly.
That is true, but if the whole thing is a short story that can’t even make up a paragraph in its entirety, then you have to wonder its worth. Now if the characters do indeed return, then it’ll be good to hear more of them. However, they’ve had a shaky start at best.
Leaving the game for it is indeed stupid, but people do have the right to question things you agree with. If I have to point to another ship, it would be Flynn and Shaw. It did come out of the blue mainly, but it was hinted. And like Thalyssra and Lor’themar, a whole short story was dedicated to it, alongside their roles in Shadows Rising. That was good, it had depth and feeling to it.
The only thing that’s really tiresome is the accusation of homophobia when people say they want to see something different for a change. While I do enjoy the relationship stories, I’m getting a bit weary of relationships being pushed to the forefront at all, straight and gay alike. They seem to be all over the place nowadays. It’s like your favourite food: you may like it, but if you eat too much of it for too long, the body may start craving something else.
Maybe some sibling rivalry or political upheaval, perhaps? That would be variation I’d like to see explored. And at least with Turalyon, and what Genn and Shaw say about him, there may indeed be at least some of that on the horizon.
Okay, it is one thing to bash the Fairshaw coupling. I’m certainly quite willing to do that, depending on context. But defending the writing behind the other WoW “romances”? Come on, guys… Do you really think it helps your position that you don’t have an agenda yourself, when you suddenly start liking Aggra’s introduction? Brrr.
Oh, there is also a word for that -
hypocrisy
Yes, which is definition of forcful relationship - Aggra was pulled out from thin air, because they had to put Thralls character to rest. It was good to see Thrall settled since there was so much invested time in his character. But nonetheless having that need to have it done doesnt make it appealing.
She is deeply scarred gurl not her fault Besides the ship had no continuation it was just dropped mid air, wont be surprised to see her back with him if need be.
Same goes with Flynn and Shaw no?
Here - makes perfect sense.
Also had story highlighting the similarities of their childhood family life and their story with these two men.
Subjectivity exists in all of us, but when you bring that subjective idea in objective reality in such forcful power, also be prepared to defend your idea, because you are violating others subjectivity and there will be resistance.
Plus when you slap the existance of certain group of people to Identity Politics speaks volumes of your openness to the subject.
I get that, it’s not the most diplomatic or mature way of handling things, but also in defence of these people it have been reoccuring theme of slapping such threads and then either A. Disappearing B. Or tunring into insulting fest. So you tell me for what purpose it this done for.
Also relationships are not being pushed forefront they are in novels and books, only personal relationship we see is Nathanos puppying over Sylvanas and Tyrande and Malf becoming meme in game.
OH and Aggra and Thralls marriage
Story is crap and linear devoid of any depth almost like telenovela and I get why such trivial things only add salt to the wound and having backlash. But We have much bigger problem at our hands which is called this story rather then some Gay men relationships being last pill we can swallow to play the game.
It just makes you look dumb.
He didn’t say he was anything.
And even if he was, you people act tough on the internet but you wouldn’t move a finger IRL.
It’s just funny.
I try as much as I can not to comment on these things because I get very triggered but honestly, what you are implying is pretty offensive, particularly in regards to gay relationships.
There are two gay relationships in the book: one between Flynn and Shaw which you may or may not find interesting but it’s literally the least interesting thing in their story and personalities, just a detail, and a marriage between two female trolls. How many straught relationships are there? And why THE HELL is homosexuality a political agenda?! Guess what: LGBTQ+ people exist too and they are as normal as you! It is not a matter of opinion, it is not politics: IT’S HUMAN RIGHTS. If it is okay to have a straight couple , it is okay for there to be gay couples in the lore too as long as it does not become a main focus since warcraft is not about that. But it did not become a driving point of the story or the main plot, it is literally a detail so, honestly, as much as I dread being rude to people: if such a thing bothers you, I am glad to see you go.
Bye-bye - I hope their example will inspire others.
Do you expect every relationship shown to have a special purpose?
The porpose of the marriage was to show that the Zandalari look forward again, instead of focussing on revenge. It doesn’t matter if the relationship is gay, straight or whatever else.
I bet nobody would be complaining if the girl married a strapping lad with the right combination of chromosomes instead of her girlfriend.
Dude I’m totally okay with that she (or he) says. These gays relations doesn’t feel natural at all, it looks like they are here to buy a conscience and that’s all. This would feel natural if these relations were revealed over time like several years for example, but what we have is “BOOM these characters are gay, why? We’ve got an agenda to fill, deal with it.”
Dare tell me I’m homophobic, I’m myself gay.
I think personnaly that Blizzard shouldn’t employ someone with such political expression.
I’m not saying that what Roux thinks is wrong, but what she posts on twitter is provocative and inappropriate. Having political opinions is fine, but expressing them with such contempt is not.
To summarize, nobody said that gay relationships were to be banned or were unnatural or anything, all that was said was that these relationships were forced and were just placed because there was some kind of ratio that had to be respected.
IMO it’s totally counterproductive. This need for representativeness tires me to the utmost.
If someone needs to feel represented based on a character’s sexual orientation, it’s not up to Blizzard to fix that, it’s because the individual only lives through his or her own orientation.
Was TyrFurions relationship revealed over years? No.
Was Mankrik’s and his Wifes relationship revealed over years? No.
Why does everyone expect gay relationships to be built over years and have some deeper meaning, when nobody does that for straight relationships?
Gay people happen, just as straight people happen, without any special deeper meaning or some deep backstory.
