Identity Politics

So after reading only chapter 3 of Shadows Rising I feel very conflicted about Blizzard. First of all i was very confused about hiring such an extreme feminist as Roux to write the book. It doesn’t feel like any Warcraft Lore I’ve ever read before.

She twitters about anti-man, anti-white statements in a very foul-mouthed and unsocial matter. She openly twitters about choking people because she disagrees with certain statements. Instead of opening a proper dialogue with arguments she just goes around cursing at even calling for aggression and murder.

I choose to ignore it and since I really like warcraft lore I bought the book. But it turns out she’s turning every single relationship that occurs in the book into a very forceful gay-relationship. I’ve seen gay relationships before in games like skyrim, but it never bothered me this much since she has an open political agenda and extreme beliefs.

I couldn’t read the book any further because of these reasons. There is no world where every single relationship is only gay and because it’s all very sudden and forceful in every relationship it feels like this is just a book about identity politics.

So after contemplating I decided to cancel my subscription and I was very much looking forward to playing Shadowlands but after reading they’ll be pushing this agende through. It feels like blizzard just wants to tick off the box. No matter who or what you are or think you are, all kinds of people play warcraft but it should never be forced into a state of identity politics.

Games shouldn’t involve politics in my opinion. It should be something where people can enjoy and get together with all kinds of people in the world without having an agenda behind.

I’ve never been so disappointed in Blizzard before and I’ve been playing since Burning Crusade. It feels nothing is left of the old teams and that the company has been taken over by people with very strong political opinions and pushing that through into the game is unnacceptable for me.

It’s not just Blizzard though, most of them, but I agree they’ve gone far from the old time philosophy.

Not every single relationship in WoW is gay lol, that’s a bit overreacting IMO. Yes, some relationships are forced but I don’t think that’s the main issue with their narrative lately.

I don’t care what Roux does in real life, I personally liked the book. I tend to separate the art from the artist. I wouldn’t listen to music or watch any movies anymore, if I cared so much about who’s behind the work.

I think this is clearly the messed up world we live in. The phone that you use is made by low paid Chinese folks who work under horrible conditions. Now that you know, will you stop using your phone?

Usually I’d agree that identity politics stuff tends to ruin stories, if it is forcefully inserted once (and because) the franchise is big. But with WoW writing… I really think identity politics are pretty low on their list of problems. The story is just a total mess by now. And whatever else you may say about the social justice crowd, at least they are usually certain on the message they want to send. Which would be an improvement to what WoW is doing, really…

Oh wow what do we have here - another homophobic post.
I believe it was one of the most powerful gay orcs who once said

“Times change”

What are you talking about? There is one gay relationship in it’s infancy shown in the book.
Not more.

In game there are 2, maybe 3 gay relationships in 16 years, and one transitioned ghost.
I think that’s not forceful, that’s inclusion in a very minor way.

It’s more than enough for homophobes to get utterly triggered. Even a thought that man can be with the man causes such a huge damage to their fragile ego they start pulling hair out and scream on every corner about “gay agenda”.

If anything, there is not enough of gay representation in Warcraft.

I 100% stand behind this.
Honestly, given the overall quality of the lore lately, the political stuff is but the tip of some huge iceberg.

That said, I do feel that as of lately, the story seems to be more focused on character feelings, than it was a few years back.
And that will naturally evolve into more homosexual lore bits (I disagree that we’ve reached a point of these being overbearing though).

But I guess that having a shift in the games literary theme, was something inevitable once the team started replacing the old writers.

Personally, not a fan of this change. But we all have our tastes.

I agree with your post nothing forceful.

Forgot that one to be honest, the gayness there was propably too forceful for my mind to comprehend. (I)

It was almost every new relationship in the book not in game of course!. I’ve total counted three already in the book.

But yes, I agree there are bigger problems in the world. I think it’s just a part of bad writing too. They could’ve make it so less awkward and forceful.

I’ve said nothing that’s related to anything like that.
I think you totally miss the point and just instead call me a homophobic.

It would be a lot better if you try and read what I actually say and if you don’t understand “Identity Politics” then please read yourself into it before you call out.

Your homophobia made you quit the game. Cuz boo-hoo too much of:

That’s a summary of your post. You just admitted it in your text. And I have nothing to talk about with people like you. But I need to call out homophobia when I see it.

And believe me, I see it.

oh ffs games are filled with politics if you dont see it your either nieve or blind.
and being gay isnt a political hing anyway its just who a person is and has ZERO baring on their political spectrum.

Even is she is pushing something or the book is crap to spout that nonence is just as bad as her.

they see politics only when it triggers them.

There’s also the one unimportant girl that gets to marry her girlfriend at the end of the book.
It was so forceful that i completely forgot about it, because it was literally 1 or 2 sentences.

Still only makes two^^
